Made it through the day at work... and ended with a chair massage

Night photos of the Las Vegas strip

Here in Alaska, the sun is coming up about 7am and going down about 8:45pm. It's nice that at 9pm at night, you can still read at night without any artificial light.

Work went okay today, I had a no-show this morning and then my last appointment of the day was a no-show (it's a kid, they probably got caught up with something after school). AND... my first 2 appointments in the morning has cancelled (there are no consequences for people when they cancel), but that will allow me to get the last note for today completed and get my peer reviews done tomorrow morning, hopefully.  As far as the appointments I did have today, I had a couple with good news and had a new appointment/client that I will enjoy working with.

At work they got 4 brand new massage chairs for clients to use while waiting, and we can use them before or after work. So, after work, I enjoyed a 30 minute massage in a chair. It was nice. What I really like about it is that they have foot massagers built in as well.

After my nice chair massage, I went grocery shopping then came home to my doggies. Bruno had an "accident" so he got scolded. At least when he had to go again later, he was sure to let me know (and was rewarded after he went outside). He had diarrhea, probably from the bone he had last night. No more raw bones for him.

Not much else going on... it's almost 9:30, time to go figure out what to wear tomorrow and let the dogs out one more time before I head to bed.

G'night,

Yay! I can flush again! Sometimes it is the little things you want to celebrate!

Ha! This isn't me... but it is what I did in Vegas... (jumping off the Stratosphere). This was the guy right after me (I believe... or the one right before me).

Work went okay today... I had a cancellation and a no-show this morning (wish they happened in the afternoon), but then this afternoon I had a walk-in at 4:15pm that I spent a half hour with (so didn't leave work til 5, because I wanted to write THAT  note... didn't get the other ones written from today).  And with who I have scheduled tomorrow, I'm pretty sure they will all show (unless they are sick or something).

And I did have someone come and thaw my sewer line... that was $170. But at least I can flush now!  I haven't been doing much tonight... although I did make some home-made garlic fried rice (enough for a couple meals).  And I gave the dogs each a large bone... which they chewed on a long time tonight.  Hopefully they won't have the runs tomorrow.

Okay... it's 10pm... time to get ready for bed.

G'night,
- Kris

A Stay at home kind of day...

One of the last photos I took in Vegas... on my last day (afternoon) there... I liked the way the buildings were reflecting.

It WAS a stay at home kind of day. I sent a message to the previous owner and he stopped by, said he had never had the drain in the garage back up. (Fortunately it hasn't been a lot and I've been very conservative on using water today (i.e. not flushing and I haven't had a shower). A little later my neighbor next door stopped by (he heard me out trying to chip away at the ice in the back with my coal shovel) to loan me an ice pick thing. I asked him about the water backing up and he suggested I call the utility company which I did, and they came out and said it wasn't on their end of things (checking in the manhole down the street). Although it sounded like there had been another call from another address on my street - on my block, but there is no house by that number on our block (mine is 1503, they said 1526, I think the houses on our street only go to 1506 and then it jumps to the 1600 block).  I'm sure they would have gotten another call and come back out had that been the case.  So, the Utility guy suggested calling a plumbing company, which I did. I called one about 5pm and they've yet to call me back (and it is 9:45pm). So, I went onto a local facebook page to see what people would recommend, and they suggested another company, so I called that one, and wouldn't you know it... their thawing truck is out of commission, but they plan to have it up and running tomorrow morning and will come out. They said that if I have an access place on the outside (which I do), that I won't need to be home and they can just leave an invoice on the door.  So... I will be taking a VERY short shower in the morning. Thankfully the water is only covering about half the garage floor right now... and isn't endangering anything.

I did go out and chip some ice on the side of the house, in back. (where it gets more sun and is easier to chip). And I finally moved three boxes out of the dining area that have been just sitting in the same place for the last month and a half and I moved them into the "office." I also put an ad on Facebook about the moving boxes and had a real nice guy and his wife come pick them ALL up. They are going to have to move out of Alaska this summer... the guy is retired from the Air Force and while he knew something was up before he retired, he wasn't diagnosed, but subsequently has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and now shakes so bad he can't work. And, the State of Alaska won't let him have Disability (I have to say... the State up here is VERY stingy with letting people have it apparently). He's applied twice and is applying again.

Other than that... I did some minor rearranging... put some decorative plates on my wall unit, put all three of my Turkish lamps down in the sitting room.

I had my typical Sunday fare... Eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast, Steak and potatoes for dinner. Nothing much else to write about... get to head back to work tomorrow. Sounds like I've missed some drama at work (not with staff... but involving patients). Hope my patients have all been okay while I have been gone.

Okay... signing off...

G'night!

Go Ice Dogs!

I enjoyed going to an Ice Dogs game tonight. They beat the Kenai Bears and are now the Division Champs.

I slept in this morning and then went to pick up the dogs about 2pm.  Then I stopped by and picked up some lunch on the way home.  We took a nap this afternoon and then I went to tonight's hockey game. The Ice Dogs won, although I guess they won by more last night.

I have a problem at my new house... it seems like the sewer is backing up. (not too much? But the toilet downstairs didn't flush tonight and when I got home last night, there was water under my car in the garage (there's a drain pipe there).  So... I guess I will need to deal with that tomorrow (or at least this week). What is sad... is that the temperatures have been a lot warmer outside this past week while I have been gone. I can't believe it made it through all the frigid temperatures and NOW it is having problems. I think I will contact the former owner tomorrow to see if he has a recommendation and if I can't get in touch with him, I'll talk to my next door neighbor.  This is the down-side of home ownership.

Okay... signing off... I'm still on Vegas time and it is almost 1am.

G'night,
- Kris

Made it back to Fairbanks!

Bubba Gumps on the Los Vegas Strip

Free lunch! I signed up for a card for Landry's businesses (they own Bubba Gumps) and got a $25 credit for a birthday lunch (good for 1 month). SO, I decided to head back down to the Strip for one last meal at Bubba Gump's.  There was also something else I wanted to pick up down there... so got that while I was there.

Slept in a little this morning (but I beat Michelle and Sydney up!)... and we visited awhile... I enjoyed about an hour long massage in their massage chair. Sure makes me want to get one. I would have to put it in the livingroom here though, otherwise I probably wouldn't use it.

The flights home all went smoothly, although it was kind of neat to take off on the runway that runs parallel to "THE STRIP" and take off over it. I did get some video that I posted on Facebook. Before we got on the flight, the pilot was standing in the doorway to greet us (probably to alleviate any fears after what happened with the "GermanWings" plane).  I had about an hour layover in Seattle and the flight from Seattle to Fairbanks was fairly empty, so I had a whole row of seats to myself.

Now it's almost 4am... I'd better head to bed.

G'night!

Last full day in Vegas

I'm writing this on my phone,  fun. I had a good day, I got up this morning and first headed out to Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam.  I walked out across the Pat Tillman memorial bridge. I didn't do the tour of the dam.  From there I headed over to Nellis to check out the base and while I was there, I got my nails done and saw where they park the Thunderbirds.

Later in the day I headed up to Red Rock Canyon  (I went to the Casino up there first).  Then I came back to the house and went out to a Japanese restaurant with my friends.

It's been a good day.

St George, Utah

Because I went to bed so late this morning,  I didn't wake up til 11, so I got a late start to my day. I drove over to St. George, Utah to meet up with some friends who were there visiting family (parents who have stayed at my house in Germany before). I felt like I was driving through the Grand Canyon on the way there and was disappointed that there weren't at bunch of scenic pull-offs along the way. I introduced my friends to the concept of "Sub-zero Ice Cream" and they thought it was awesome.

I got to meet one of my friend's sisters and had dinner at their house.  We visited for quite a while and then it was a 2 hour drive back to Vegas .

It's almost 2 now,  so I had better sign off and head to bed.
G'night ,
Kris

Long day on the Strip

Went down to the strip before lunch time and finally got home about 3am and I only got to about half of the strip. I gambled in about 30 casinos and came out ahead, by about  $100.  I enjoyed getting personalized M&M's at the M&M store and I enjoyed going up in the "High Roller", which is supposed to be the world's largest revolving observation  platform? Something like that. I kept making wrong turns (getting off of the monorail I walked all around the outside of the MGM , which is HUGE), then trying to go between the Excalibur and the Luxor,  I was directed to the Luxor and then had to back track.
I've got to head to bed now, because I am driving over to St George, Utah tomorrow to see some friends there.
So, G'night,
Kris

Happy birthday to me.

Had a great day,  I've been going to bed late and getting up late and today was no different.  I went down to the strip this afternoon and got signed up to jump off the Stratosphere.  I wanted to jump at sunset,  so I ended up jumping sometime around 7pm.  What was neat about that experience,  was that they take you up to the top in groups of 2. And the person that I jumped with had a birthday today too! He was from Venezuela and is exactly 20 years younger than I am.  He was there with his wife and kids, but they didn't jump. (It's not for the faint hearted).

Other than hanging out at the Stratosphere and having a late dinner there, I did wander the strip a little bit this afternoon.  I may head back down there tomorrow afternoon.

I had better sign off, it's 3am Yikes!!
G'night,
Kris

Another day in Vegas

Just a short post,  slept in this morning  them we got going to the Outback restaurant as an early dinner for me.  Then we has to pick up Sydney and his friend. They did pretty good. Tonight I went to another local casino and did ok and spent most of the allotted money I had brough with me. Now it is way past my bedtime, so will sign off.
G'night,
Kris

Another day in Vegas (This didn't post??,)

We slept in this morning and then went and did some shopping.  We had fun people watching at the Galleria mall.  This evening Michelle dropped me off at another Casino and I had fun playing for a couple hours.  She had to pick up her son at 11pm, he had gone to California to play in a band concert. Man, has he grown since I last saw him 7 years ago.
Now it's past 1:30 am and I need to go to bed.

G'night,
Kris

Oops, didn't post last night

Hey, I made it down to Vegas with no problem, got in about 6am. Picked up my rental car and stopped to get a soda and headed to my friend's house.  She had an appointment in the afternoon, so I headed down to a local casino. I was amazed at how big it was. I called my friend to see if she wanted to join me for their seafood buffet, but she wasn't feeling well, so I stayed and had dinner, which for me consisted of some inside-out California sushi rolls (2) about a dozen peel and eat shrimp and about a pound of crab.  Num num.

When I got home we stayed up late talking thru the night, so I forgot to blog. It's 11am and I've been awake about an hour, laying in bed catching up on Facebook and emails, but it is time to get up and head out for the day.

I'm dreaming of a Jet Plane... don't know when I'll be back again...

Just another Northern Lights photo... not liking how grainy it looks though...

Work went okay today, I only had 3 appointments scheduled, but they all showed up. I was able to stay on top of my notes and get everything done I needed to get done today (although I almost forgot 1 thing... thankfully I remembered it about 10 minutes before I was to get off work).

I got a couple birthday cards in the mail today... from my youngest daughter and granddaughter, along with a giftcard for Amazon.  I think I'm going to buy a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. I've had one before and really liked it... I sold it when I moved to Germany.

It's 5pm now and my oldest daughter gets off at 6pm and she's going to come pick me up and give me a ride to the airport.  The doggies are at the dog sitter's (I took them last night), so I don't have to worry about them tonight.

I thought I would post now because I won't be able to post later... time to sign off and finish packing.

G'night,
- Kris

Muddy break-up.  The upside is we have warmer temperatures, today it got up to almost 50*. But... with it comes dirty cars and dirty roads.

Work was easy today... everyone decided to cancel... except for 1 patient who arrived 2 hours after their appointment (thankfully that appointment slot had cancelled). When there is nice weather, there tends to be more cancellations (there's no consequence for cancelling). I've already got a couple cancellations for tomorrow. I did manage to get some things done for work today, it was nice to get those things taken care of.

After work I took the dogs and dropped them off at the dog sitters. I've got my bedding in the dryer right now (something I tend to do when I drop the dogs off, wash my sheets... I do it more often than that... but do it then as well).

And I've been packing a little bit. I fly out tomorrow night. I should be focused on packing more than I have been.

Okay... signing off for another night. The Aurora is out again tonight... but I'm not going to go out tonight. It's already after 10pm... and I have to finish packing before I head to bed.

G'night,
- Kris

AURORA and Happy St Paddy's day!

Some aurora photos from tonight. I went out about 10pm and now it is almost 1am.  Morning is going to come WAY too soon and these photos don't do the show justice. It was a BEAUTIFUL show tonight (not initially, but about 12:15am or so it was!).

Work went okay... although all my afternoon appointments showed up so I didn't get those notes done... hope to get them done in the morning.

Watched TV tonight... didn't pack like I should have. Although I did go out and chip some ice off my patio because it had warmed up to about 42*... THAT was nice.

When I got home I went to check on my pellet stove and saw some embers down where the ash container is... and found out it is OVER full. I made the mistake of opening the ash door and now I can't get it shut all the way.  So, I'm trying to turn it off, not sure I'm being successful. I'm going to go downstairs and check on it before I go to bed.

Okay... signing off to head to bed.

G'night!

Not so busy Monday...

I got this in the mail today from my middle daughter. It's a belated Christmas/early birthday present. It's not very big, but captures their personality in a BIG way. *smiles*  I also got a couple other gifts from her... a Washington State dishtowel and some cool socks.

Work was much easier today than I had anticipated. Maybe because it is Spring break and the weather warmed up a little today.  I had a couple last minute cancellations and a no show. So... I was able to get my notes done and I was able to get some training done (I had to call our internet support people to get it to work, so I could take the course). Nothing is ever easy.  I also got my timesheet done, so that's out of the way (and I turned it in). I even helped a co-worker with a computer-related problem. Oh... and I got my hotel reimbursement request kicked back AGAIN... fortunately I was able to forward the request to someone in our local office to fix, and they got right back to me and I got it re-submitted (Again... what is this, the 3rd or 4th time???).  Hopefully this is the LAST time.

I went shopping after work, just for a few things. I wanted to have a steak for when I get back from my birthday trip, because I get back on a Saturday (and I will want it for that Sunday)... so it is in the freezer. I got some sushi California inside out rolls for dinner.

Tonight I've just been watching some TV and fighting with my laptop. Remind me to never buy another Toshiba Satellite laptop. The touchpad keeps giving me fits and freezing up. It happens every couple days.

Okay... I'm going to sign off as I finish watching "The Voice". (there's a girl on there from Spokane that I've been waiting to see how she does).

G'night,
- Kris

Beware of the Ides of March and Happy Birthday Bruno!

Enjoyed being out at Chena Hot Springs this weekend... Loved the outdoor rock pool
It's fun to see what kind of mess you can make with your hair and then have it freeze
And we were rewarded by some gorgeous northern lights last night.

I didn't post last night, I thought I would have internet access via my cellphone service, but didn't. Sorry.

I did have a wonderful time. I got out there about 5pm and Ana was in her room.  We chatted a bit, walked around a bit (and it was FREEZING... about -20) and took some photos. I had brought out a large sandwich from the store along with some chips, so we had a bite to eat and then headed to the Hot Springs.  We spent about 3 hours in the outdoor rock pool (or at least I did... Ana went in about a half hour before I did). And as I was sitting in the pool, talking to a couple from Boise, Idaho, I noticed the Northern Lights were coming out. How cool! Although, being in the outdoor rock pool, there was so much steam, it was hard to see much most of the time. So, I got out and changed and went to find Ana at the room. I let her know the Northern lights were out (the main reason she wanted to come up to AK). We had originally planned to go up to the "Aurorium" about midnight, but it was about 10:30pm and Ana was on the bed watching some TV. We went over to the small airstrip that they have there (and they have a northern lights viewing area in the activity center). Of course... we had to jockey with a bunch of Asian tourists who seemed rather pushy. And they had their stuff inside the viewing room, on all the first row chairs and they weren't even in there.  We stayed up watching the aurora until about midnight and then they went away. So... it was a good thing we went out when we did.  Ana had gone out on a tour the night before and they saw "some" lights... but nothing like they were last night.

This morning we slept in until about 11, that was nice. Then I left about 1pm to head back as Ana headed out to go on a dog sled ride. I can't wait to hear how it turned out for her. I hope she had fun. I did get some great photos this weekend (three are above).

Okay...it's 9:45pm, so I'm going to sign off. I'm watching a show about the Tsunami in Phuket, Thailand, hopefully it will get over at 10pm, it's pretty interesting.

Oh yea... and today is Bruno's 6th birthday!  Happy Birthday Bruno boy!

G'night,
- Kris

Long day...

Mr Pheasant stopped by for a visit this evening. *smiles* A bright spot in my day.

I had a long day at work. All my appointments showed up and I had 5 intakes to type up. I stayed late to get the paperwork done... and then my talkative co-worker stopped by and the next thing I knew it was 6:30 or so. Because while she was talking (albeit... most of it was work-related) our head Supervisor stopped by and we ended up talking about patient care and issues we are dealing with. THEN... when they left, another co-worker that was also working late... stopped by to talk about ANOTHER client. I think it was 7pm before I finally left work. I had to stop by the store and had to get some gas, so it was 7:30pm by the time I got home. Now it is after 10pm... at least I don't have to get up early tomorrow.  And I haven't eaten dinner (I was going to have some leftover spaghetti).

Okay... keeping this short...

G'night,
- Kris

Visiting the Pipeline

Some photos from the Alaskan pipeline viewing area near Fox, AK.  I picked up Ana after work and took her to see the pipeline... then while we were up that way, we went to "Silver Gulch Brewery" that is up that way. We both had the same thing... "Potato encrusted halibut." Other than being a tad salty for  my liking... it was good.

Work went okay today... I only had one appointment... but the rest of the day was taken up in meetings and trainings that weren't always productive.  My notes are done for the day though (so caught up). Tomorrow I just have intakes scheduled, so I will hope I don't have any emergency walk-ins. I would LOVE to end the day with all notes complete and not have to work late.  Tomorrow one of my co-workers turn 70.  I have to say, other than being overweight, they are actually doing pretty darn good! (As far as ability to learn and adapt...unlike another new co-worker that we got that is 2 years older and probably should have stayed retired... even though they are very nice).

After I finally got back to the house tonight, I did my taxes.  I get less back than I got last year and don't get credit for some expenses that I thought I should have gotten this past year. GRRRR.

Okay... it's 11:40pm... WAY past my bedtime.

G'night,
- Kris

Ice Park with new friend...

First of all work went fine today, I had two cancellations (it was -29 this morning! BRRR!).  I was able to keep up with most of my notes, but also had some collaboration to do with co-workers about patients.  I did get off work relatively on time too as I was going to go meet a new friend.

A mutual friend had introduced us via Facebook, apparently we were both involved in "Meet In Honolulu" and our time overlapped there... but I didn't remember her and she didn't remember me. We shared some interesting stories about Facebook... and talked about the many people we know from Meet In, that was fun.  Anyway... she's up here from Connecticut (but she is originally from Chili!). I've really enjoyed spending the evening with her - we went to the Ice Park tonight (after we came to my house for pizza). She's done a TON of traveling... and I'm jealous that she's been to the Galapagos Islands! AND... Antarctica is on HER bucket list as well! She's 35 and is teaching at a private boarding school in CT.  She's just up here for about a week...she's heading out on Friday to Chena Hot Springs (I may just go out and join her for a day there).  We have our love of travel and photography in common, so that's cool. And she's been to a bunch of amazing places that I haven't been to (like South Africa and India and a bunch of places in South America). She's also traveled extensively in Europe and some of it going on a wing and a prayer and picking up odd jobs.

Okay... it's almost 11:30pm, I didn't get home until about 10:45 and I wanted to upload some photos.

Going to sign off now and head to bed.
G'night,
- Kris
