No more work for a couple weeks!

These were a couple sunset photos from our visit to the Crater Lake area, I didn't realize how high up Crater Lake actually was.

Well, work was easy today, I only had one appointment. I got my notes done, consulted with a co-worker about a client, did my "peer reviews", got my timesheet figured out and some additional paperwork that was needed due to travel stuff and a few other things.  I realized I've only worked 8 days in the month of July (thanks to furlough days and leave). And now I'm off again until the 13th of August (3 furlough days and 5 days of training).  This week has been really light, mainly because I have a bunch of clients on leave and some of them I have to re-establish contact with (it will be easier when I am back mid-August and not planning to be gone again anytime soon).  I'm feeling really fortunate to be able to go to this training next week. It'll be helpful in many ways, but I always look for "networking" opportunities at these kinds of trainings. I'll be learning to do "Forensic Interviewing of kids."  That'll come in handy for when I am on-call and hopefully give me better discernment. I also think it will be just down-right interesting.  Part of the reason I feel lucky to attend is because the training is really for the Domestic Violence folks and also because they are now going to do a similar training here in September.  One thing I will like is that I should get 30 hours of "comp time" because of all the traveling involved. That's almost an extra week of leave! Wow.  Now if I could just come up with the money for the February cruise, I'd be REALLY happy! (the one I wanted to go on to Antarctica... the only continent now that I haven't been to).

Not much else going on. After work (I left late) I came home and took the dogs out and then went to a nearby restaurant with some of my "Social Work" co-workers. (My boss and 2 others).  The restaurant is fairly close to where I live (within about 5 minutes) and while I have passed the entrance at least 100 times, I've never been there.  It was really nice. I might have to go again, now that I know where it is (down a road into a valley) and know what the food and prices are like.

Dogs are back to their normal selves today, that's a relief.  They woke up okay this morning, but more so this afternoon they were back to the bouncy selves when they saw me come home. *smiles*

Okay... signing off... although I can sleep in tomorrow, it's a furlough day... I have a 9:30am doctor's appointment (for med refill). I'm hoping to take all my "recyclables" and figure out where to take them and get them all dropped off so that my house is empty of all trash before I leave.  I figure I'll pack and clean on Friday (then I leave on Saturday).

Droopy doggies...

Sunset over the wheat fields of Walla Walla, WA...

So... work was easy today, only had one appointment and I took the time to type of one assessment (that I did yesterday).  Only one more day of work for me and that's tomorrow. It'll start off busy and then taper off. I have a client coming in tomorrow I haven't seen for awhile. They called today to see if they could come in and I could tell they were upset. It'll be interesting to see what has transpired since I saw the person last.  We also start off our day tomorrow with a staff meeting. I thought about making a Cherry sour cream coffee cake, but haven't done it, so I guess it won't happen. It's already after 9.

This morning I dropped the dogs off about 7:30am at the Vet and filled out some paperwork and then left work just after 2, to go pick them up.  Peanut wasn't ready (they did Bruno first) and after a few minutes they brought Bruno out to me... poor guy, he was soooo loopy!  The Vet tech kept saying what a REALLY good Chihuahua he is (I think she wanted to keep him.... and wouldn't have minded if I had come a little later to pick them up!).  He IS a good boy... especially with people... not so much other doggies.  We sat there for probably a half an hour before they brought Peanut out. The Vet came out to talk to me for a bit before they brought her out (I think to buy some time... lol).  Anyway... he mentioned that she had blood in her stool this morning and asked if that was something I had noticed (I hadn't). But then tonight when they finally were okay enough to walk down to the field to go potty, Peanut had a small bowel stool that she really strained to get out and there was a string of blood in it. Not sure what that's about. I think the Vet said he sampled the blood but didn't see anything out of whack and I think he sent a sample off to the Pathology lab. He also took a look at her paws for me (she keeps licking them and it seems like a fungal infection, but it hasn't been clearing up) and so he also swabbed that and has sent it off and gave me some antibiotics (or something) to give her 2x a day until it's gone. They also clipped the dog's nails for me, really good... so I don't have to worry about those for awhile.  At least Peanut and Bruno now have a pretty smile! Their teeth are nice and white (and no cavities and no teeth had to be removed).  Bruno every now and then whimpers for awhile, not sure what that's about.  I hope they feel better in the morning after a good night's sleep.  Oh and I'm $400+ poorer.

Other than that, not much going on... I've just been cuddling with the doggies all evening and surfing the web (nothing good on TV). I could start a new book, but haven't yet.

Okay... signing off... maybe I'll call it an early night (even though it's almost 9:30pm already). Last night on-call, as my co-worker is going to take it over tomorrow night since I am on furlough on Thursday and Friday.

Still more rain today...

When I took the dogs out for a walk tonight about 9pm, the rain had finally stopped, but there was some low lying fog in the fields.
The sun is setting... (you can see some of the "fog" off on the left hand side of the picture.
 Ha! Trying to be creative!
And... it's another sun setting on another day in Germany... So glad the clouds have cleared (it was raining VERY hard when I got home and had to take the dogs out for their potty break).

So... work went okay, I had a "walk-in" this morning, someone I had talked to over the weekend. I hope I can help this person and build some confidence in them.  I was glad I had brought my lunch today because it started raining about lunchtime and it rained all afternoon, progressively coming down harder and harder until about 4pm (it was still raining then, just not as hard).  We continue to have "leaks" in our building, especially in one of our Doc's offices (there was a waste paper can that was almost 1/2 full! and she had all kinds of pad down to try and soak up the water).  Today was the first time I found out that it was also leaking into the 1st floor areas as well. (We are in a "TEMP" building).  Sure wish they would get up and seal the leaks!  We've had significant amounts of rain for about a week now (tomorrow is supposed to be "rain free" but I'll believe it when I see it).

Not much going on tonight... nothing on TV, so I finished reading the last in the "Gansett Island" series by Marie Force. I think of all her series, I like that one the best (it's situated in the NE on, kind of, her portrayal of a real place called "Block Island." (Guess I should google and see where that is).  I find Marie's books easy to read, I just download this last book (#9) yesterday and finished reading it tonight (and no, I didn't try to read it at all today at work).'s about 9:40pm already, time to sign off for another day.  Tomorrow morning I get to take the dogs with me when I leave and I have to drop them off at the Vet in the morning.  They may or may not realize it... but they don't get anything else to eat tonight (nothing by mouth after 8pm, except for some water as needed/wanted).  They are getting their teeth cleaned tomorrow. (Probably long-overdue, but I've been trying to get them in for at least 5 months now.  They are short-staffed at the Vet's office, so you have to call in the 1st day of the month and it's first come, first serve. And they've had a relocation of their office during that time, so there was one month they didn't do any "surgeries" (or anything requiring anesthesia)). I'll get to pick them up at 2:30 tomorrow, so will wrap up work by 2pm! YAY Me... a short day!

Til tomorrow...

Sunny then rainy Sunday...

Mount Hood in the rearview mirror! (And it should say "things are closer than they appear" or something like that).  I do have better pictures of Mount Hood... but I liked this one.

So... slept in the morning (after letting the dogs out at 5:30 or so to go potty).  I like having a lazy morning... I wake up, read my emails, and on weekends I will also read my facebook while laying in bed and check the weather.  When I had gotten up to let the dogs out, it was raining, so I wasn't in a hurry to get up for good. Originally I think the weathermen had said we only had a 10% chance of rain and they said it was supposed to get up in the 90's today.  About 11 or 12 it started clearing up and we had decent weather most of the afternoon. About 4 it started clouding over and we had a thunderstorm pass through.  It's still wet outside (at about 9pm), but I don't think it's raining anymore.

I had my "Sunday Brunch" today, which consisted of my usual, an over-easy egg, a piece of toast and two pieces of bacon (I made an extra egg and an extra piece of bacon to share with the pups).  Tonight for dinner I made a steak, then I chopped up some potatoes, nuked them, then fried them in a pan with some olive oil, seasoning salt, minced garlic, chopped onion and some bacon chopped up.  I made enough so I can take some tomorrow (steak and potatoes).  The doggies got to enjoy some steak too (they're spoiled).  Tomorrow night they won't get anything to eat after 8pm though, because they are going to be sedated on Tuesday for their teeth cleaning.  Since I had the oven on anyway, I went ahead and made a pan of brownies to take into work tomorrow.

Other than that... I did get some "sun" time in today on the back patio... can't tell yet how much sun I got, my legs feel like they got a little.  With as warm as it was, I was wishing I had an ocean to go jump into (like at the beach of Ala Moana).  Tomorrow it is back to work. I have a fairly light work week.  For some reason I'm not very heavily scheduled... I have clients who are on vacation and technically I will only be at work for about 2 1/2 days this week anyway.  I'm there all day tomorrow (and asked someone to come in as a walk-in), and then on Tuesday I have to drop the dogs off at the Vet in the morning and then pick them up by 2:30 in the afternoon, so I'll take the rest of the day off after that. Then I'm back in the office all day on Wednesday, and then on Furlough on Thursday and Friday (we are required to take 2 furlough days a pay period, and since I'll be in training all next week, I'm taking my 2 furlough days this week).  What a pain.  Nice thing about being off on Thursday and Friday (beside having a doctor's appointment on Thursday for a med refill), is that it will give me those two days to pack and clean house before I go. I'm half tempted to drop the dogs off at the dog sitters on Friday morning so I can go to a thermal bad (pool) or something.  Not sure if I am dropping them off Friday night or taking them over Friday morning (I'd need to have them there by 8am in order to get back home and get to the airport in time).

Okay, I guess that's it for today...

Sunny Saturday!

It was pretty darn warm on my back patio today!
Tonight I took the dogs out just after it was getting dark and Bruno started barking and barking (I thought he had found a cat)... but he found this hedgehog! (It was gone when we came back by).
I was trying to look for it's face, but couldn't find it.  It's only about the size of a pineapple. It's the 2nd one we've seen when I've taken the dogs out after dark. I used my iPhone to take a picture of it (my iPhone takes lousy photos for some reason).

So... today was a relaxing day, although I did get one more call on the "on-call" phone. It was related to the call I got last night, but I ended up on the phone for about an hour. (And you can bet I'm going to claim the overtime for last night AND today!).

Didn't do much today, I laid out on the back patio for awhile in the sun (sweating)... didn't get too much sun. When I looked at my phone, I think the highest temp I saw was about 94*, but as you can see above... on my back patio it was a tad warmer (although I do NOT believe it was THAT warm).  Then I headed into town to do some shopping (to get out of the heat and into some air conditioning, since I don't have AC (I do have a couple fans though).

Okay... signing off for another day.

What a day... but at least it is FRIDAY!

Well, for some reason my computer isn't let me upload any photos today.  GRRR. I get so frustrated with this computer sometimes. I'm not sure if it is the actual computer (a Toshiba laptop) or if it is Windows 8 (I think the blame lays on Windows 8).  I was going to post a picture of "Mount Hood in the Rearview mirror" (and say something like "things may appear closer than they are... ). *smiles*

Work went okay today, I only had one appointment, but also had some trainings to do. I ended up staying late to finish my work for the week (NO excuse... but at the end of the day when I was trying to get it done, I had a co-worker come in and ask for some help with something).  So... I didn't get home until just after 6pm! (And that was with coming STRAIGHT home).

I took the doggies out for their walk (actually went out twice tonight, 2nd time wasn't as long).  I'm on call and so got a "call" tonight that wasn't your "run of the mill" call... so had to call a co-worker (because Supervisor is out of town) to figure out how to handle the call.  Why do I get all the weird, "out-of-the-box" calls... or as my supervisor would say "the interesting" calls?  Who knows. But, I do know I'll get 2 hours of overtime for tonight though! Chinka chinka... ever little bit helps right now.

I had a friend email me and ask if I'd be interested in meeting them in Paris for a long weekend towards the end of August, I said I'd get back to them (I have to look at my schedule AND my finances).

I *do* get to take a trip in a little over a week... BACK to the States. I get to go for some training.  Guess I will need to figure out if there's anything I still need that I didn't pick up when I was back home last week! *smiles*  I'm hoping I will get to meet up with a friend or two while I am back in the States (that live near where I'll be going). At least for this training I should get some comp time for travel... (although with the way the budgets are right now I wouldn't be surprised if they say - hey... we paid for the training, the travel time is on you... and if that were the case... then I'd think about flying on duty days!).

Okay... signing off since it is almost midnight already.

More thunderstorms today...

The bridge that crosses the Spokane River as it enters Lake Roosevelt
There was an Eagle's nest on top of the bridge
My brother-in-law Gary with one of the MANY fish he (they) caught during the short two hours or so I was out with them on the boat.
There were a LOT of houseboats out on the Lake for the 4th of July weekend!
Lake Roosevelt is a pretty expansive lake (more long than wide).

So... work went okay today, my last appointment of the day was a no-show (the first one had already rescheduled until tomorrow).  At least with the cancellation I was able to get with another co-worker and get something important done (for a short upcoming trip to Texas in a couple weeks).  Tomorrow is a furlough day for the majority of the clinic, so it should be relatively quiet/peaceful.  I took over the "on-call" phone, so I am working tomorrow (I've already had my furlough day for this week... and next week I get "2" (Thursday and Friday because the following week I will be at a training all week).

We did have more thunderstorms today, fortunately not as bad as yesterday.  It still leaked in our building, but I think it was only in 1 office and the file/server room.  Tomorrow there is only a 10% chance of rain, I hope that is true.  Saturday we are supposed to have a high of 97*!!!

Tonight after work, I came home, got the dogs out and then headed back into town to get my nails done and then had dinner (yea... cheesy breadsticks) at Pizza Hut and sat and talked with a family I know.

Okay... it's already almost 10:30pm, so I had better sign off.

Weather, Weather, Weather!

I spent the first weekend of my vacation (the weekend after the 4th of July) with my younger Brother Don... (he can still beat the crap out of me, but at least now he doesn't try!).

These are views of the lake from his house...
He appropriately lives on "Deer Meadows"... I saw a LOT of deer while I was out there... several times a day! (I even saw some bald eagles every day!).
Looking back up towards my brother's house, from the lake (I got to go out "fishing" with the guys... I didn't fish, I just enjoyed the scenery!).
Don had some beautiful sunsets at his house as well!  Isn't this lovely?

So... weather.  Hrmph!  About 12:30 today it started thundering (it was darkening up during lunch) and then about 12:45-12:50, it started hailing!  We got pea to marble sized hail!  Amazingly my 1pm appointment made it in, and just about the time we were going to sit down, they came around and ordered everyone to evacuate the building.  We had several leaks in the roof, including into the room where the computer server is located. (YIKES!).  I don't think the downstairs suffered much damage. But then I also heard from patients that many of the nearby roads were flooded. Our main clinic (adjacent to where I am located) had a sewer line rupture or something, so they had to cancel all appointments for this afternoon (as we did also).  They were able to contain the sewer spill to one section of the clinic... and so, rather than let us go home... they decided to keep us this afternoon and we got 5 trainings knocked out (fun stuff like.. hazmat, domestic violence, ethics... etc).  I was all up-to-date on all of my training... but supposedly the "clock" will start over for these trainings and now we won't need them until next July again (I'll believe that when I see it).  I also heard one of the local stores was flooded today.  We had heavy rain yesterday, but I guess there was more volume today (and yesterday we didn't have hail).

Not much else going on. Tomorrow I take over the on-call phone again (the extra $$ will be nice).  Tonight after taking the dogs for a short walk, I just watched "America's Got Talent", that was good tonight. Hard to believe they are going to pare down the participants from 12 to 4! Yowza! (By "America" voting).  They had one little girl on there that I was surprised that she even made the FIRST cut... she's young, about 9 or so, but all she does is scream! I actually had to mute the TV, I am getting TOO old to tolerate screaming kids. (She's a cute kid... and her voice when she sings normal isn't TOO bad... but the screaming bit is just TOO much for me!).

Okay... signing off...

Another day, another dollar (thank goodness!)

These are some photos from the Merry-Go-Round at Riverfront Park in Spokane. I believe it is over 100 years old. It used to be down at the old Natatorium Park (not far from where I grew up) and when they decided to tear down the park, there was a fundraising effort (which I was mentioned in an article for helping with by asking school kids to each donate a dime towards the effort) to save the Merry-Go-Round.  I feel like I should have grandfather rights to ride it for free whenever I am in town. I sure enjoyed riding it with my granddaughter and nephew!

Work went okay today, first day back in almost 3 weeks. I only had 2 appointments scheduled for this afternoon because I thought I had to take the dogs into the Vet this morning (instead it was yesterday) and then I knew I needed time to catch up on all the email traffic that I received while I was out of the office.  One of my appointments had to call and reschedule, so I only ended up seeing one person. I was able to get my note done for today! *smiles*  All my co-workers seemed happy to see me back.

This afternoon right before quitting time we had a horrendous thunderstorm with a LOT of rain. It reminded me a lot of the thunderstorm we had in Atlanta just after I dropped off the rental car and took the shuttle over to the International terminal.  Thankfully by quitting time it had let up immensely.  After work I had to stop by the grocery store and pick up some groceries (basics) and then went to check my mail.  The doggies were happy to see me when I came home.

After dinner I sat out on the back patio with the dogs and brushed the dogs with the "furminator" to try and get rid of some of their excess shedding hair.

Okay... signing off...

A Day Off thanks to Furlough...

With  my younger granddaughter on the 4th of July
One of the first stops for me when I have gotten to Spokane is Dicks Drive-In.  Although, it may not be a priority in the future because the prices have gone up substantially due to being under new management apparently.  My younger daughter and granddaughter enjoyed the experience with me. (I have to say... you should at least try it for the fact that eating there is a good bowel cleanser! LOL!).
One of the first family members (siblings) I spent time with was my youngest brother and his son.  Had a good time with them at Riverfront Park for the 4th of July celebration!

Today was nice, I took it easy.  Although I did have to take my dogs into the Vet for pre-op blood work. They are going in next week to get their teeth cleaned (and have to be anesthetized for it). Peanut was awesome as always and the Vet Techs said that Bruno was the BEST behaving Chihuahua they have seen in their clinic. YAY! I felt like a proud mama!

This afternoon I ran all over trying to find a foot stool for the chairs I have on my patio... took forever, but I finally found something that would work for 19 euros (Beats the 149 euros I saw for some at one store!).

Tonight I've been watching some TV, and spending time with the doggies. It's back to work tomorrow.

Okay... signing off for another day.

Back in Stuttgart!

 Spokane... my hometown...

A couple photos from Crater Lake, one of the top 100 places to see in the world! (the one on the bottom was basically my first view of Crater Lake and was taken in the late afternoon, the Crater Lake photo on top was taken in the morning (the next morning) and I love how it shows the reflection of the mountains in the lake.

So, yes, I'm back from my vacation.  Some of the days I was gone, it was a vacation from the computer as well (not necessarily by choice) because I didn't have access to the internet at my older brother's house where I stayed, nor did I have it at my younger brother's house (out on Lake Roosevelt) where I spent my first weekend.

The weather was awesome and I had a great time seeing family and friends.  My first weekend was spent with my younger brother and my older sister (she *loves* to go out to the lake to his place on an occasional weekend when she can get away).  While at my brother's I got to see a couple of his friends that we grew up with, it was great to see them (although one was a pot head and rather opinionated!).  I got to spend a morning out on the Lake cruising with my brother-in-law and a couple of my brother's friends (just cuz I don't get to hang out on a boat very often!).

So, I spent the 3rd and 4th of July in Spokane, then headed out to my brother's on the afternoon of the 5th, spent the weekend there. Then on the 8th I headed down to Walla Walla (after another night in Spokane)... and I went on about a weeklong road trip with my middle daughter.

Monday - Walla Walla
Tuesday afternoon - Crater Lake (and spent the night in the area).
Wednesday morning- Crater Lake, then we headed down towards Medford, kind of following the Rogue River and went to Central Point, OR to visit the Rogue Creamery (I've met the CEO before, and his mom).  We got to Bandon, OR later that afternoon and visited the "Face Rock" Creamery there after checking into our hotel.  We enjoyed sunset at the beach and even got to see about a dozen sea lions basking on a large rock!
Thursday morning we got up and headed north on the Oregon Highway 101, we stopped at the Heceta Head lighthouse for a short visit and then traveled up to the Tillamook Creamery before getting to Portland (OR) for the night.
Friday - we did some shopping at Ikea in the morning and a couple other shops around there, and then we headed back to Walla Walla. We stopped at Multnomah Falls on the way and walked up to the bridge (we chose not to hike up to the top of the falls).  We also stopped in Pendleton, OR and I picked up a nice blanket at the Pendleton Woolen Mills there.  We got back to Walla Walla in the early evening.
Saturday I headed back up to Spokane (I tried to talk my daughter into coming with me, but she was already freaked out about having left her diabetic cat for the Oregon trip... and poor Dusty had one episode with VERY high glucose numbers that I worried would result in cutting our trip short... thankfully Michelle had a good cat sitter to watch Dusty and the other 2 cats).
Sunday, (the 14th) we had our family reunion at my older sister's house. Everyone came except my youngest brother (he's the black sheep of the family and tends to stay away from family events. I did spend the 4th of July with him). One night (when was it, the 17th?) my youngest daughter, my younger granddaughter and I went out to the motor cross track to watch my nephew race is 85cc dirt bike (he didn't "place" but it was good to see him).  That was an interesting night.  In the race right before David's (nephew David) 2nd race, there was an accident. There were two events per "class" of motorcycles.  The one just before David's 2nd turn, was the one with the accident. Two guys were coming over a hill and tapped each other causing them both to fall, and then some guy didn't get a yellow flag in enough time and ran over one of the downed riders.  They had to take him away in an ambulance. They had said they thought he had a broken collarbone, but didn't know about internal injuries. Then we had to wait for another ambulance to show up before the races could resume.

Other than that, I was glad I chose to spend a night in Atlanta before returning to Stuttgart.  They had VERY heavy rain and severe thunderstorms about 4pm (the flight was scheduled to leave about 5:30pm). So our plane ended up leaving about 1/2 full instead of a full flight as was expected (one of my co-workers and her daughter were supposed to be on board, but their flight was diverted to TN). I had a window seat with an empty seat beside me. THAT was nice!

Today was beautiful here in Stuttgart with temps about 90. I unpacked my suitcases, then swept and mopped the floors (I had my neighbors that were moving back to the States stay at my house for a few days before they left). Then I laid out in my hammock for an hour or so before going to pick up the dogs.

Okay... guess that's enough for now. I'll post more tomorrow (I'm off tomorrow)... and will add pics over this coming week or so.

Having a great 4th of July weekend

I've been away from internet, phone, TV, etc for a few days, while it's been nice, it's also been difficult (those who know me, KNOW I how much I *hate* being away from email and the internet!). I'm doing great, having a great holiday!  Should have more regular internet connection this coming week, but if I don't post... don't worry about me... I'll be back online by the 21st of July at the latest.

Ahhh... Vacation time!

Some Poppy flowers in my nearby field.
Work went okay today, I scheduled a light day so that I could make sure I had all my notes and everything else caught up by the end of the day... and I managed to do just that.  On the way home I stopped and got some gas, came home and walked the doggies before going to get my nails done. Then I came back to the house and took them for another walk and then dropped them off at the dog sitters. It was 9pm before I got back home. I've been cleaning house, because while I'm on my vacation, my neighbors across the street are going to come stay for a few days as they prepare to pack out next week and move back to the States. They'll be gone before I get back... that's sad.  Curt is taking me to the airport in the morning. I don't think I'll be able to post tomorrow night, but will post when I can and will post pictures when I return (I don't think I can post them while I am gone, if any of my past experiences of traveling with my iPad is any indicator!).

Okay, it's almost midnight, I still have a few things to do before I head to bed, hoping to be in bed within an hour.

Just a short post... Day #6

Work went okay today, only had 4 appointments scheduled, but the first one no-showed, then emailed and they are going to come in tomorrow, the next one missed the appointment because they were stuck at another office waiting, so rescheduled for this afternoon, then the 1pm appointment was a no show (they are in the process of moving... so that's probably why THEY didn't make it) and then the last one of the day called ahead and cancelled because they were sick. SO... I only HAD 1 appointment today, but that let me get caught up on ALL my training and get some other things done.  Found out today that my appeal for furlough was denied, so will be furloughed, first day will be July 12th and it's scheduled to go through the end of September.  That bums me out... but apparently there isn't anything I can do about it. GRRR!

Tonight after work I went out to dinner with my neighbors, they will be leaving within a couple weeks and moving to the States. I'll miss them, they've been great neighbors/friends.

Okay... signing off...
