Saying good-bye to a favorite co-worker is Sad.

This was the "Marrakech Express" train I rode from Casablanca to Marrakech. It was relatively cheap. The train ride was between 3- 3 1/2 hours long and cost the equivalent of about 17 American dollars. Not a bad deal!

Work went okay today, only had one appointment this morning (but I also had a medical appointment today, primarily to get some refills on meds).  This afternoon we had a fairly lengthy staff meeting, but I ended the week with getting all my notes entered (for the appointments I had yesterday and today).  I'm now on call... hopefully things will be quiet.  Today has been a "junk" day weather wise as it has basically been raining cats and dogs all day and night.

Today is my youngest daughter's 30th birthday!  I sent her a message to tell her Happy Birthday, but plan to give her a call before I go to bed. I sent her birthday present(s) a couple weeks ago and she already has those.  She now has an 8 place setting of hand-painted Polish Pottery with a nice butterfly pattern.

Tonight after work (and walking the dogs), I went and got my nails done and then I went over to my boss' house for a small going away party for one of our co-workers who was well loved by most everyone in our clinic.  He will sorely be missed. He was a very dedicated provider, and a hard working provider. He's taking a position in Texas.

Okay... signing off.

Back to work today

This is THE only reason one should want to go to Casablanca, it is the 3rd largest Mosque in the world and holds over 25,000 worshippers.  This is the Hassan II Mosque.

Work went okay today, even though I had four appointments scheduled, one had to reschedule, one had to cancel for today and rescheduled for next week, and then I had a no-show, but it worked out because I had another client show up thinking their appointment was today.  We got our "Furlough" letters today.  As it stands right now, my clinic is going to close on July 12, 19 and 26, August 2, 9, 12, 23 and 30th and then in September the clinic will close on Sept 9, 16 and the 23rd.  I am hoping that means I can take 3 weeks off when I go home instead of 2 1/2 weeks. So it might be possible for me to be gone from July 3rd through the 26th.  How cool would that be?

I also got an email asking me if I am interested in an interview for a position at another location here in Germany, it would be a promotion if I got it and I have 3 friends that are located up in that area. (It's about 45 minutes from Nuremburg).

After coming home from work and taking the dogs out for a walk, I came home and went through a few hundred combinations on my suitcase until I finally opened it (it opened at #850).   At least it's open now.  I got my clothes out and did some laundry (which is dry now).

Today at work we had a going away luncheon for one of our co-workers, it's sad to see them go.

Okay... signing off...

Back from Morocco!

I made it back without any problems along the way (well, our flight was late leaving Morocco due to some mechanical problems, but I still made my connection okay in Paris). It is amazing to think that just yesterday I was riding a camel in Africa and today I'm back in Stuttgart. *smiles*

I'm going to keep this short, because it's already about 10pm and past my bedtime. I need to go figure out the combination to the lock on my suitcase (I *thought* it was still set at 000, but apparently at some point the combination got changed. GRRR).  The doggies are happy to have me home... and tomorrow it is back to the grind at work and to saying good-bye to an awesome colleague that is leaving and will be greatly missed!

Camel Rider!

Well, I've decided that I have a label for each day of my Moroccan experience... Friday - mugged by two thugs (in Casablanca) Saturday - Riding the Marrakech Express Sunday - Snake Charmer Monday - Mountain Goat Climber Tuesday - Camel Rider And tomorrow morning I hop on my flight back to cold and rainy Germany. We did have a good time riding the camels today and it was made even more enjoyable because there was a baby camel about 3 months old that tagged along with us and was very affectionate! We did that this morning and then went back to the hotel and then had some lunch before I left to catch my train back to Casablanca. It was a nice leisurely train ride and I finished my 3rd book for the weekend. *smiles* After getting back to Casablanca, I wandered over to the Medina to get some scarves for a friend back in Germany who asked for them, then I dropped those off back at the hotel and then took a taxi over to "Rick's Cafe" made famous by the movie "Casablanca", I guess I should rent that movie and watch it, now that I've been here. I had a nice dinner (I had a filet mignon). I sat ne t to a couple on their honeymoon from Australia, they'd were really nice and had been traveling for 6 weeks, tomorrow evening they start their journey home. Okay, it's 9:40pm, I'd better sign off, I want to pack tonight and then take a nice hot shower before heading to bed. Auf Weidersehen, - Kris

If I was a Snake Charmer yesterday, today I was a Mountain Goat!

So, this morning our guide/driver picked us up to head up to the Atlas Mountains and I think we thought we would be going on a little stroll and then seeing a water fall and coming back. Nope... Just a tad more. First stop on the way was a tourist shop, I bought a large ceramic plate and a little candle lantern. Then we stopped at a little Berber village where they make and sell Argon oil products. I actually liked that stop. Then we went up high in the mountains where we met another guide who was to take us up to the water falls. I thought it was just up the road. NO! We hiked and climbed up what seemed like a river bed for almost an hour. I think Laura said we climbed up over 1700 meters. I totally had the worst shoes on and was really regretting it and I was the slow poke, not only because of my arthritis, but because I stopped to take so many photos along the way. I think I took almost 500 photos today! As we were coming back down I hit a slippery (loose dirt) spot and fell, but thankfully other than maybe a bruised knee, I came out fairly well. Once back down in the village, we stopped and had a traditional Bereber lunch before heading back to Marrakech. I think we were so wiped out, that we just wanted to come back and rest by the hotel pool, which is what we did. Tonight we just went to McDonalds for dinner and caught the taxi back. I've been uploading photos to my Facebook, and once again, it is about 10:30 at night and everyone else is sleeping, and I'm on my iPad, now blogging. Tomorrow we are supposed to be picked up around 9am for our 2 hour Camel trek, I'm looking forward to that. Then I plan to be on the 3pm train back to Casablanca for my last night there. Time to sign off. Auf Weidersehen, -Kris

Shopping fun and getting lost in the Market today *smile*

So, after we got up and had some breakfast, we got on the hop- on, hop- off bus and spent a couple hours on that. Then we took a break at our hotel, then got back on the HOHO bus. We got off near the main market and wandered for a few hours in the old Medina. About halfway through, we stopped for some lunch, Arielle and I shared a pizza. Then we wandered around the Medina for awhile longer and then came back to the hotel and enjoyed a couple hours! We rested a bit more, the we took a taxi down to the new part of town and walked most of the way back... Oh yea, we also took time out to check out the ritzy "Sofitel"hotel across the street (which goes for about $500 a might). We also stopped and checked out the "Le Meridien" hotel which was equally as nice. Tomorrow we heaved arranged a taxi to take us up to the Atlas mountain range, which is supposed to be rally nice. Today we also booked a 2 hour camel ride in the desert. We couldn't book it for tomorrow, so made it for Tuesday in the morning, then Laura and the kids fly out late that afternoon and I will be taking the train back to Casablanca for my last night there. Okay, signing off, everyone else is already in bed. Auf Weidersehen, Kris

Riding the Marrakech Express!

I had a good day, I got up about 7 and then laid around in bed for about an hour, then I took a taxi down to the HassanII Mosque and took a tour of it. Afterwards I took an hour-long taxi ride around the city to see some of the sites. I got back to the hotel around 11:30 and laid around reading until I had to check out at 1pm, then I sat in the lobby reading til about 2 and then tok a taxi to the train station and took the train to Marrakech, it was a nice relaxing ride. I got to Marrakech around 6pm and caught a taxi to the hotel where I checked in and uploaded. Some photos to Facebook while I waited for Laura and her kids to get here. They got to the hotel a little after 7 and then then we walked down to the Medina area which was crazy busy. We had dinner at a neat little Moroccan restaurant and chatted with some American neighbors sitting at the next table. So far I like Marrakech SO much better than Casablanca. Marrakech has a lot more women that aren't in the traditional garb. Ok, it's about 11:30 pm everyone else has their Jammies on and are in bed, so I'd better sign off and go get my pj's on and get to bed too. Auf Weidersehen, - Kris

I made it to Africa, to Morocco, to Casablanca!

So, I HAVE made it, almost amazingly. I stayed up til almost 1am and set my alarm for 3:30am, and had a taxi scheduled to pick me up at 4am, for my 6am flight. I woke up at 4:55am! Thankfully all I needed to do was throw on some clothes and grab my stuff and go (no shower for ME this morning!) and thankfully I only live 15 minutes from the airport... But still, I knew I would be very lucky if I made the flight. I was out of the house in about 5 minutes, and unfortunately I had to park in one of the EXPENSIVE lots, and I rushed in and at the counter they said the flight was already boarding and gave me a skeptical look, but I managed to make it (and actually, the flight hadn't started boarding yet, I got to the gate about 5:25. WHEW! My mama used to have a saying, "God watches over fools and children, and I must be one of them!" I certainly felt that way today! On the way down I read a book on my iPad, so didn't sleep, I'm sure I will sleep tonight! When I arrived in Casablanca, I found my luggage cracked pretty bad. So I spent almost an hour with the baggage people, at first they said they couldn't do anything, but finally typed up a claim for me, not sure if it will do any good. So, one of my first things to do here, was to go find an inexpensive suitcase, so I walked over to the Medina and managed to find one for about 45 dollars (the equivalent). I also managed to pick up a couple Knock-off Hard Rock Cafe tee shirts, one that says Casablanca and one that says Marrakech. I came back to my hotel, which is really nice by the way, and dropped the stuff off and then decided to walk over to the large Mosque. Well, I shouldn't have, because I ran into a couple hoodlums that ripped my necklace right off my neck! Thankfully it wasn't an expensive one, but it was one I liked (and was wearing the matching earrings, at least they didn't rip THOSE off), it was a set I picked up in Prague. And someone in a car did stop that witnessed it, to make sure I was okay and recommended I go to the police (but I didn't). I just hope that Karma bites them in the butt, and I was glad I only had my pocket Canon camera and that they didn't steal that! I'm no worse for wear, but it hasn't been a good first day in Morocco. I did go on down to the Mosque, but I took a cab back. It was already closed for tours, so I hope to get up tomorrow and make the 9am tour. Then I'm going to come back and head over to the train station about 1pm (going 1st class which was strongly recommended!) and will get down to Marrakech about 7pm. Okay, gotta scoot, dinner should be here soon, I'm having fresh grilled salmon! Auf Wiedersehen! -Kris

Heading out on another trip!

Well, this computer (my *new* laptop) is acting up again and not wanting to let me post pictures, so I guess I'll skip it for tonight. It's already almost 10:30pm and I have to be up at 3am and I still want to vacuum the main floor and run a mop over it now that the "guest" doggies are gone.

Work went okay today, I managed to stay on top of my notes and get them all done.  I made the mistake at the end of the day of answering the phone because someone else was busy and then had to spend 15 minutes taking a report and writing IT up (what a pain)... because someone had an attitude. ARGH!

Then tonight when I went to drop off MY dogs... my dog sitter had forgotten about the time so I hung out there by their apartment for an HOUR.  So much for trying to get things done.  I *did* get my garbage emptied tonight, so that was good.

Okay... signing off. You *may* not see another blog from me until Wednesday night (the 29th) if my Ipad continues to act up like it's been wanting to do (for some reason it doesn't want to let me blog).  I should be able to post updates to Facebook though... so if you are on my facebook page... watch for those.  I'm heading to Morocco. I fly into Casablanca (and have arranged a ride to the hotel), I arrive about 12:30pm and then I'll spend tomorrow afternoon and most of Saturday there and then I'll take a train down to Marrakesh and plan to arrive there around 7pm, so I can hook up with my friends, (Laura and her kids).  We'll be in Marrakesh through Tuesday and then they fly out and I will hop on the train back to Casablanca.  At least that's the plan.  And then I fly out from Casablanca on Wednesday. At least it will be a short week for me next week!

Tomorrow is MY Friday!

I wonder if I can spin this thing? *smiles*

More photos from Meersburg. *smiles*
Work went okay today, I still have 3 sessions that I need to document, and I have a fairly busy day scheduled for tomorrow. And I *have* to get my notes done tomorrow because I'll be heading off on my mini vacation to Morocco.
After work I came home and did my normal routine of taking each set of dogs out twice, and then less than 2 hours later, when I was downstairs changing out my bedding and doing some laundry, Cody (the bigger of the two "guest" dogs), took a crap on my floor! What the heck!  And then when I was getting ready to take them out for the 3rd time (in about 3 hours), one of the "guest" dogs peed on my floor (both of my dogs were on my lap at that time).  Sure hope Lori makes her flight tonight so she can come pick up the dogs after work. I told my dog sitter I would have my dog at their house by about 7pm tomorrow night.  I haven't even packed yet. I did get my vitamins all doled out into little plastic baggies because they are easier to tote that way.

Tonight I went ahead and washed my doggies so they will be somewhat clean when I drop them off tomorrow night at the dog sitters.  At least I'll have "clean" doggies with the clean sheets that I just put on the bed!
Okay... signing off.

Some delicious chicken!

This bottom picture might be a little hard to see, but this butterfly had see-through wings!  These were taken in the butterfly preserve I went to on Saturday down on Minau Island (when I went to Meersburg).

Work went okay today, I had two appointments that had to reschedule, so I was free all morning and was able to get all my notes done from yesterday.  This evening (after walking the dogs) I've been researching information for my trip to Morocco.  I am going to have to leave my car at a car park, because the train doesn't run early enough on Friday (darn it). But, the upside of that, is that I'm going to have them detail my car while they have it. (for 25 euro).  I also finally heard back from my dog-sitter and they are going to be able to watch my doggies while I am gone, so that's confirmed.  I've been emailing back and forth with my friend Laura who is going to meet me in Marrakesh where we will spend 3 days/nights together (she's bringing one of her daughters and her son).  I still haven't gotten motivated to pack yet.

Tonight I made my favorite chicken recipe. I use boneless/skinless chicken breast and I coat it in a mixture of mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, minced garlic and season salt.  The chicken always comes out very tender.  And it's delicious!

Okay... signing off for another night.

Fairly easy Monday...

For lunch in Meersburg I had "Felchen" fish, some fresh white asparagus and some boiled potatoes... a typical German mean.

For dinner in Meersburg I had pork tenderloins in a mushroom gravy and "bratkartolfen" sliced fried potatoes, and fresh veggies.  The view from where I had each meal is above (so the bottom two are my dinner and the view while I sat and ate dinner and the top photo was taken from where I sat and had my lunch).

Work went okay, although I had one no-show that has me a little worried.  I am due to see that person in another session later this week with a child.  Hopefully they make that photo.

And while I thought I was going to be done dog-sitting tonight, Lori sent an email and said that Newark was fogged in, and that they recommended coming over on Wednesday (so she'll get here Thursday morning).  I was kind of looking forward to a couple days with just *my* doggies before I leave on my mini vacation this weekend (going to Morocco).  I have sent a message to my dogsitter to make sure he will be back from his trip and can watch the doggies for me, otherwise, when Lori comes over to pick up her doggies... I may just have her take mine too at time. *smiles*

Okay... it's 9:30pm, I'm going to sign off...

Talk about a lazy day!

My favorite area of Meersburg, the "Unterstadt"  It's such a wonderful promenade to walk.

So... today has been ULTRA lazy!  I didn't go to bed until almost 2am and then stayed in bed until noon!  I had shut all the windows up on the main floor and slept with an ear plug in and so didn't get woken up by the "guest" dogs. Their mama is supposed to be on her way back, but she sent me a message saying she was stuck in VA due to fog. As long as she's back by Thursday, I'm okay. *smiles*

I *did* go to a Laundromat and washed my down comforter and a bedspread. Sure beats paying the $35 - 50 they want at the local cleaners!  I ran into another woman (American) there and we got to talking about travel.  She has now decided to adopt my "bucket" list of getting to 100 countries! *smiles*  I'm not sure how many she's been to, she didn't think she had been to as many as I have, but she *has* been to all 50 states she said.

The other thing I managed to do today was to get my photos loaded on my "upstairs" computer so I could load them up to Facebook (some of the photos from yesterday).  I need to erase the memory cards now and make sure my camera batteries are all charged and ready for the coming weekend, when I head off to Morocco.

Okay... signing off.

Meersburg and Minau Island on the Boden See (Lake Constance)

The entrance to "Unterstadt" (lower town) in Meersburg)
I love how they decorated this archway into the lower city of Meersburg
Meersburg (from the ferry we took over to Mainau Island (or also known as Ainsel island).
Loving the water and the weather!
We went through a butterfly sanctuary
This is an overview of Ainsel island (it was on a book that I bought).
 LOVED, LOVED the flowers!
This was a floral representation of the Boden see (also known as Lake Constance)
An awesome church down near Meersburg.

SO... we had an awesome day. Judy came over about 9 and we headed down to Lake Constance and more specifically, the town of Meersburg. Judy hadn't been there and I think she fell in love with it!  Of course... we had beautiful weather today (tomorrow is supposed to be rainy again).  We had lunch on the "boardwalk" area of the lower city and enjoyed sitting outside and watching the boats and ferries come and go.  We had "spargal" and fish (the fish that is only found in the Bodensee).  Spargal is the German word for "Asparagus".  It wasn't a cheap lunch, but it was good.  Then we wandered through the little shops, hiked up to the Uberstadt (over town) where the oldest part of Meersburg is.  We then went back to our car and plugged the meter for more time and then headed back down to the boardwalk area of Meersburg to catch a ferry out to Ainsel island.  It is about a 20 minute ride over to the island, and cost us 27 euro for the roundtrip ticket and the admission price to the island. I think we could have easily spent a full day over there. There was SO much to see! We didn't even make it to the palace!  But, we thoroughly enjoyed what we *did* see and just enjoyed sitting a couple times and enjoying the fragrance from all the flowers.  We headed back to Meersburg (via ferry) about 6pm, then stopped and had dinner at one of the hotels where we got to (again) sit right by the water and watch the ships come and go and enjoy the view of the alps in the distance.  And they had some live music (dance music) there playing while we ate.  We stopped at the church (in the bottom photo) on our way back to Stuttgart.  It's about a 2 hour drive.

Now it's already after midnight so I had better sign off and think about heading to bed.

Hooray for another Friday!

A few more photos from Burg Thurant

So, today was steadily busy, even though I only had one appointment (that ran a little long). I stayed a little late (and was the only one there at that time) and got all my notes done for this week. Whew!

Tomorrow one of my co-workers is coming over and we're heading down to Lake Constance (also known as the "Boden See"), we are going back down to Meersburg. It's the same person I went to see Castle Thurant and Burg Eltz with.  She's never been to Meersburg. So, it should be a good time. We are hoping to catch a ferry out to Minau island (also known as Flower island, and I think it has a butterfly preserve).  Tomorrow is supposed to be the only nice day this week (or weekend).  But, at least I'm not in Alaska where there is 4-6 inches of snow predicted for this weekend!  Can't winter just be over already?

Okay... signing off...

Is it Friday yet?

This was the sunset from tonight... it was beautiful!

Work went okay today, it was steadily busy.  Nothing too exciting.  I took my "Angel Food Cake" into workf for my boss' birthday, I didn't get/have a piece but it sounded like it was good.

I still haven't made my reservation for Casablanca yet, but will do that in the next day or two.

Okay... I'm going to sign off and make this a short post.

Riding the Marrakesh Express

They had a torture room at the Thurant Castle...
HELP... I'm stuck and I can't get out!
Photos from the Thurant Castle

So... work went okay today, it was steadily busy.  I got some good news today, my friend Laura and her two younger kids will be hooking up with me in Morocco. I fly in on Friday to Casablanca and then I will "ride the Marrakech Express" and meet up with them there.  We'll spend three nights in Marrakech and then they fly out on Tuesday and I'll take the train back to Casablanca for my last night there. I'm excited, but nervous about going.

Tonight I made an Angel Food cake, but it kind of fell... I hope it turns out okay because I made it for my boss' birthday which we are celebrating at lunch time tomorrow.

Okay... signing off...

Early wake-up...

Looking through the wine fields down towards the Mosel river.
At Castle Thurant.

So... the "guest" doggies woke me up about 4:15 with their barking... and Cody barked until I came upstairs after my shower (finally) at 6:15 or so. UGH!  They are being more of a pain this time, not sure why.  And one of my dogs (who weren't locked up) had diarrhea today (but at least it was on the towel that I keep by the front door to wipe their paws on).  If it isn't one thing it's another.  I didn't get home until about 6:30 and then after taking out Cody and Mazzie, I went ahead and took my dogs for a 2.5 mile walk. And now it's already 10pm.

Work went okay today, one of our docs got a job offer from Australia, it'll be interesting to see if they take it.  Part of the reason I was late getting home was because I was talking with the doc, my boss and my one co-worker who is leaving June 1st to take a job back in the States.  My one co-worker (a Social Worker) took the afternoon off to go pick her doggy up from the Vet, her one dog that had to have an eye removed a few months ago, had to have his other eye removed this past weekend.  Poor dog.  She had to take the other dog in because he's having respiratory issues, but she is unwilling to have them put to sleep at this point.

Okay... signing off for another day.

Starting off the week on a good foot!

Every Castle has a chapel (or at least it seems like everyone *I've* been to has had one).  This was at Castle Thurant.

Work went okay today, I had a very light day and so I was able to get all my notes done and even prep some notes for tomorrow which is going to be busier. Oh, and at work I got an email that my application for a job in Belgium has gone forward. So, I'll keep my fingers crossed.  I've been in contact with someone that works up there so I'm hoping that she will put in a good word for me. It would be a promotion if I get it (and then I'll be just over an hour to the coast of Belgium and 3 hours from Paris).  Time will tell. I'm trying not to get my hopes up.  I know that we are still under a hiring freeze...

After work I ran home to take all the dogs out to go potty and then I had to go get my nails done.  Then I had to come back and take them out again (and I left my fitbit at home today). I need to wash the floor mat that goes in the larger dog cage (it's like a playpen without a floor). I got home and Cody had pooped in there.  Fun.  Remind me to not watch dogs that aren't housebroken.  I know my dogs aren't perfect and that they like a lot of attention and that when they are sick they will have accidents, but for the most part they are VERY housebroken!

Okay... signing off.  I am watching the "Survivor" Finale (we get the shows a day later than they are shown in the States).

Happy Mother's Day!

Ha ha... I took this photo yesterday at Burg Thurant, thought it would be an appropriate picture for today (Mother's Day).

For the most part it's been a fairly lazy day. I've taken the dogs (both sets) out a few times.  Even still... these dogs have pooped 1-2x on the floor and peed at least 3-4 times!  I had taken them out right before I ran to the store this evening and came home to find messes on the floor.  I don't know if they are just used to Lori being home and letting them out frequently or what.  It's been rather rainy here today and we also got pea sized hail... at least it wasn't big enough to hurt anything.

I've talked to all three of my daughters today on Skype, that was nice.  I also talked to both of my granddaughters.  They all wanted to wish me a "Happy Mother's Day."

Now it's already after 10pm, so I'd better sign off and head to bed.  And Bette... if you're reading this... Happy Mother's Day to you!

Castle hunting!

 Burg Thurant, above the Mosel
 Another view of Burg Thurant
 Berg Eltz

 Looking down on Berg Eltz
 Cochem Castle
Another view of the Cochem Castle, above the town of Cochem (a wonderful town on the Mosel river)
Another view of Cochem

So, I had a good day, I went with one of my colleagues and we drove up to see Burg Eltz.  On the way up we stopped at Burg Thurant (the top photos).  It rained off and on, but we only had to get our umbrellas out once.  We toured through Burg Thurant and Burg Eltz, but it was getting late when we got to Cochem, so we didn't go up to that castle.  We had lunch at Burg Eltz and then when we got to Cochem we had some Ice Cream and bought some wine! (And some orange flavored Olive Oil of all things).  We were running late getting back, mainly because we parked in the wrong area when we got to Burg Eltz, so we ended up walking down over a mile to the Castle and then back UP! My boss had said there was a shuttle you could ride up and down, but that was on the OTHER side of the castle.  Go figure.  SO, we ended up being there longer than expected.  ON the way back I called my neighbors and the kids came over and took the dogs out for me so I didn't have to rush to get back.  At least we didn't run into any traffic jams.

Okay... signing off... it's almost midnight!

Heading up to Burg Eltz tomorrow!

I loved this red church in the background... these photos were taken in Stockholm.
Stockholm also had a lot of statues, some were more dressed than "this" statue

Work went okay today, I got a couple more assessments typed up and got some training done... nothing too rough.

Tomorrow I'm going to drive and one of my co-workers is going with  me up to see the Castle "Burg Eltz."  My supervisor has been there several times and says it is absolutely beautiful!  I hope to be posting pictures of the castle tomorrow night.

Okay... signing off, it's already past 10:30pm and I'm tired.
