Easy as pie Tuesday!

I stopped tonight and picked some flowers from one of the "Blumen" fields (Flower fields that people can go to and pick flowers and they operate on an "honor's" basis for payment). Don't these look pretty?

Work went fine today, I didn't have ANYONE scheduled! Whoohooo! Originally as I was scheduling clients this week I didn't know what time Angie would be leaving, so I left the day open, and then just never booked anyone into today. It worked out anyway, I had a bunch of paperwork to do and it looks like I *will* be able to have a quick trip to North Carolina for some training in September. (And it will be ALL business, no down time). I also got to talk with a friend briefly that is going through some serious stressors right now.

BTW, Angie left this morning. I dropped her off about 8am (her flight left at 10:25). She said she had a great time while she was here. I'm happy I could make her trip a memory to remember.

After I came home and walked the dogs, I ran back out to do some errands. Someone had a free-standing long mirror for sale, so I went and picked it up. I got it pretty cheap and it's fairly good quality and something I've been looking for, for awhile.

Tonight, now, I am watching "America's Got Talent" and whoohooo... I'm writing this and it is only 8:30pm. *smiles*

But... I *will* sign off for now.

Auf Weidersehen!

Berchesgarten Mountains

These are some of the mountains around Berchesgarten...

Hitler's Tea House is up on top of this hill. I went there over 30 years ago. My oldest daughter (who is now 33) was only about 2 years old. I didn't go up this past weekend though... time was limited.

Work went okay today, I found out I might be able to go to a training conference in the States in September, the particular conference I am interested in is in Charlotte, NC. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

After work today I came home and took the dogs for a short walk and then Angie & I went out to dinner for her last night here. We went to a Thai restaurant. The service and the food were really good.

Okay... I'm going to sign off. It's almost 10pm and I have been watching the Americans play Hungary in Women's Water polo.

Back home again...

This is where we stayed down in Bad Reichenhall. Our room was the 3rd floor up on the corner, (if you count the windows down on the very bottom). The corner was rounded and we had the balcony on the right side. It really was like having a room in a mansion.

This was the view from town of Bad Reichenhall. Beautiful mountain view, huh!

So... this morning we didn't leave the "hotel" until about 10am and we drove over to Berchesgarten where we went to the Salt Mines. We had to wait about an hour and a half for our tour and then the tour last about an hour and a half. We left Bertchesgarden about 3:30 or so to head back home. "GERTRUDE" (that's what I've decided to name my GPS)... seems to LOVE the Alps. This is the 2nd time she's taken me up into the Alps (first time was just after I got the car and I was going to Italy). Anyway... at least she didn't take me completely over the top of the Alps... just more up and over the side of the mountain (on another 1.5 car width lane). GRRR! (I was trying to avoid the toll roads in Austria). Oh well. So... it only took us about 4 1/2 hours to get home. It didn't help that we kept running into traffic jams (Staus).

Now it's after 10pm... time to get to bed... so I'll keep this short.

Sound of Music tour

We had a good day in Salzburg! We originally had booked the afternoon tour, but then saw it was supposed to rain this afternoon, so we went on into Salzburg to see if we could get on the morning tour and they let us do it. We had a great tour guide and driver. I met a couple - Barb & Tony, they were older than me, and their camera battery ran out so I took a few pics of them and gave them my email address. If they email, then I'll send them the pics I took. After the tour got over, we wandered around the old town and went upto the fortress on the hill, I believe it dates back to the 11th century. It started downpouring when we got back down to the town, so we took a cab over to my car to keep from getting drenched as much. Tonight we went over to a casino here in town, I didn't LOSE any money this time, but Angie lost (donated) a little bit. Ok, bedtime. G'night! Auf Weidersehen, Kris

Made it to our hotel!

I only worked for a 1/2 day today and then I came home and picked up Angie (she had already walked the dogs for me) and we headed down to Neuschwantein. We got there about 3pm, only to find out that the next available English tour wasn't until 5:30, Angie decided that she didn't need to see the inside, so we just took the bus up to the Marien bridge, took some photos there, then walked down to the castle, wandered around there for a little bit and got a sandwich and a diet coke, then we took the horse and buggy ride back down the mountain. Today was the 1st time I've been to Neuschwanstein in the summertime. The only downer is that the have scaffolding around 1/2 the castle. I did get my official letter rescinding the job offer. I tried to find out why, but apparently because they had not given me an official offer, they don't have to give me a reason. I had contacted the guy who would've been my supervisor and I was careful not to burn any bridges. It took us almost 4 hours to get to our hotel. We are in a relatively small town (Bad Reichenhall, which is apparently within 10 miles of Salzburg. The hotel looks to be in an old mansion (it's over 100 years old) and every room has a balcony. Right now as I write, we are watching the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Okay, time to sign off, Auf Wiedersehen, Kris

Ruh Roh!

First... work was an average day.

BUT... this afternoon I finally got to talk with someone in the HR office in Italy and found out that my job offer has been rescinded. So... I've been dealing with that this afternoon... thinking about the hows and whys. I tried to call the person that would be my boss to find out more information, but didn't get through to him. I did talk with one of my former co-workers who is down there and he thinks they managed to hire a contractor that they had originally wanted to get into that position. I'm not sure if I have any recourse or not. There's a part of me that reminds myself that "things happen for a reason" and a part that says "If it was meant to be, it would have happened", but then there is another part that is sad, because I had finally gotten to the "acceptance" stage (I had a lot of ambivalence about leaving)... and then, there's a part of me that is a little glad I am not going yet, as I had fully expected to be here in Germany for another year at least. (I still have 5 months on my phone contract and my cable TV contract). So... things work out they way they are supposed to. (Right?).

Tonight I made a "Chicken Ring" for Angie and I for dinner... I had it prepared and waiting to go into the oven just before I had to go pick her up at one of the local train stops. I also gave the dogs a bath.

Okay... time to sign off... it is already almost 10pm.

G'night.

so-so day....

Here I am with a humongous cookoo clock in Triberg at the "House of a 1000 clocks"

I got up early this morning and baked some chocolate chip cookies and took them into work. I was late getting to work because traffic was REALLY backed up on the one road I take into the clinic.

Work itself went okay... I did have one cancellation... and had to discuss a new case with my supervisor... so nothing too out of the ordinary.

Tonight I took the dogs for a 2.6 mile walk after work. It was hot (upper 80's) so I let the dogs walk slow and I let them stop frequently along the way. BUT... I do have my 10,000 steps in already today. Actually, I'm up to 11,000 steps!

Okay... I'm going to sign off...

My doggies...

Peanut loves to sleep on the couch next to me, under the afghan my oldest daughter made for me.

Here's a side profile of Bruno tonight...

Peanut peeking out of the blanket...

I just took the dogs for a short walk because it was about 85* out and I felt like it was too hot to do a 2 1/2 mile walk. BUT... it *was* a beautiful day out! And it's supposed to be nice all week, getting up to 90* by Friday (I'm only working a 1/2 day on Friday and then Angie & I are going to head down to Neuschwanstein and then on down to Salzburg for the weekend).

Work was weird today. I kind of found myself in the midst of an altercation between a couple, then I had two no-shows (One called to change their appointment to tomorrow and the other is going to come in on Thursday) and I had one cancellation. SO, I only saw 1 person today. And I couldn't do anything on the computer (work-related) because the main programming system we use was down.

After work I went grocery shopping for a few things and then came home and took the dogs out for a short walk. I've eaten dinner and then haven't done much else. I was talking to one of my youngest nephews on the internet for a little bit and hooking him up with other family members who are on Facebook.

Okay... I'm going to sign off...

Num, num

A couple "risque" statues in Lucerne... "art"

Work went okay today, I didn't have too many appointments and I was able to get a couple assessments typed up during my free time.

After I got home I took the dogs for a 3.26 mile walk (we are ALL exhausted now). Then I got home and vacuumed out my car before baking 3 dozen Banana Nut muffins (I ate *2*! and then took about a dozen over to my neighbors and plan to take some into work). Since then I've been watching TV. I've really enjoyed watching "Coming Home" which is about reunions of military members returning home to their families. Now I'm watching "Army Wives." (what can I say... there are limited choices for TV shows).

Not much else going on... weather wise it is about 80* out tonight, so it was a beautiful evening for walking the dogs.

Okay... time to sign off.

Eggs & Steak Sunday!

I took the dogs out for one of their "regular" walks (almost 2.5 miles). It was a nice afternoon for a walk and the sun has been out long enough to pretty much dry out the dirt roads.

Of course... a little posing is called for... although they both look a little tired here... Peanut was lollygagging a LOT today! Whew!

Here's another shot of the stump I had them pose on...

So... I started off my day with some scrambled eggs, bacon and a piece of toast (that only happens a few times a year! Then I putzed on the computer while my bedding was washing. (Now I have to go down and make my bed). I took the dogs out a couple times, but the one later this afternoon was the longest (the one almost 2.5 miles). I've gotten 2 assessments written (only have 10+ more to do! and I'll get 1-2 more tomorrow to do... fun!). I had planned to make Banana bread tonight... but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. It's already almost 8:30pm. I spent some time on the phone with a friend in the states that is dealing with some employment woes... Last night I got to talk with all three of my daughters. I had sent them each a "surprise" package, and they had just gotten them this week, so I wanted to talk with them to see how they liked what they got. But, then I didn't get to bed until after 1am this morning (I got up by 8:30 or so... but did take a nap this morning... that's another thing that only happens about 6 times a year!).

Well... I'm going to sign off and see if I can't knock out another assessment or two.

Lazy days and Saturdays?

Isn't this a cute picture of this little chick-a-dee (or whatever kind of bird it was). It was begging one night while Angie & I were having dinner in Lucerne.

This was our view from where we sat and had dinner last weekend in Lucerne. Nice view, huh!

So, today has been *somewhat* productive. I got up and put laundry in the wash, vacuumed upstairs and cleaned the bathroom (that Angie has been using), then I left about 12:30 or so to run some errands. I first went over to the local pet store to pick up some chicken chews for the dogs - at least there I know they aren't made in China (I'm worried about buying any chicken treats from China because dogs have been dying eating chicken treats from China). I also picked them up some more dog food.

Then I went to the store where I buy my soda and recycle my soda pop bottles. Bought a few groceries and pop and got some more flowers for my dining table. (That's something I've recently started doing, is I run these kind of errands (where I need to stay relatively close) and I buy myself fresh flowers for my dining table. I like that).

After going to the store and grabbing a brotchen and wurst, then I went and got my haircut (whew... about time!)... and then did a little shopping before my nail appoinment.

Tonight hasn't been productive at all.... I've been on the phone a LOT... and hence... didn't get any of my other chores done I had hoped to get done today. Thank goodness there is tomorrow!

Okay... time to sign off.

YAY! It's another Friday!

Up close and personal with a Swan on Lake Lucerne

There were a LOT of swans in Lucerne!

Looking across Lake Lucerne.

I started off the day dropping Angie off at the train station. She had a lot of anxiety about getting on the right train, so I parked and walked her to the platform and made sure she got on the train. She is in Paris now for a week. At work I had a walk-in this morning and then the rest of the day was taken up with training stuff. I went out to lunch with some of my co-workers. We sometimes do that on Fridays.

Tonight I've just been relaxing and watching TV. I didn't take the dogs out for a walk after work, although we did go down to the field. It has been raining all day and most of the evening.

Okay, I'm going to sign off for another day...

Triberg in the Black Forest

We went to the "House of a Thousand Clocks" today

The waterfall in Triberg was wonderful!

A stream shot....

I worked a half day today and this afternoon I came home and picked up Angie and headed down to the Black Forest. (Angie had asked if we could go down there). It took about 2 hours to get down there and we spent a couple hours down there. We looked in the shops (and I got out of Triberg WITHOUT buying ANYTHING!) and we hiked the waterfall. Then we stopped at the hotel on the corner for dinner and I had some "Black Forest Cake." (It was okay... but I don't like the cherries soaked in liquor).

Now it's 9:30pm and time to head to bed... so I'm going to sign off.

More Switzerland pictures

That's Mount Pilatus up in the background

When we were coming back across the lake, there were a LOT of people out boating and enjoying the weather (and again, Mount Pilatus is in the background)

This is for my friends Bette & Walt... I had hot chocolate up on top of Mount Pilatus just for you!

Today went good, I got a lot done (well, at least I felt like I had a productive day). Tonight when I got home I took the dogs for a 3 mile walk. I had planned to take them for a 4 mile walk, but I got a call from Angie saying someone had called about the car and wanted me to come show it to them... so I hustled back to the house (we were about a half hour away), only to find out that the person wasn't going to be able to see it when I could get back to show it. Oh well. It'll get sold one of these days.

Tonight I've also been on the phone dealing with my bank that financed my car and with my Insurance company because I got a letter from my bank saying THEY were going to start charging me something like $8,000 a year for insurance, apparently just because my Insurance company did not put the bank as a lien holder when they issued me the current policy. HUH? Hopefully it is all rectified now. What a hassle!

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Liechtenstein VS Lichtenstein !

THIS castle was in the COUNTRY of Liechtenstein which we passed on our way back up from Lucerne...

The 2 photos above are of the LICTENSTEIN castle which is near Honau, about 45 minutes SW of where I live. Tonight after I got off work, Angie & I went out to the Ritter Sport Factory, then we went over to the town of Metzigen to check out the Lindt Chocolate outlet store and then we headed down here to Lichtenstein to see this castle, one of the smaller ones in Germany. It was closed when we got there, so we could only enjoy the outside.

Work went fine today... I stayed fairly busy. Not much else to say about that...

It's after 11pm though, so I'm going to sign off so I can head to bed.

On TOP of the world photos!

I thought I'd post some "on top of the world" photos from Mount Pilatus this weekend. I really *did* have a good time up there... and if there would have been more time, I would have liked to hike back down to the bottom (but it was going to take at least 3 hours and we had places to go!).

Work went okay today... It was steadily busy. I had a "walk-in" this morning, so I met with the person and got the information, but I think I'll pass it on to my supervisor. I think she'd be a good match for the couple.

Still no news on Italy... as I sit and patiently wait.

After I got home tonight I took the doggies out for a 2.5 mile walk... I have wore them out! LOL! This is only our 2nd long walk since they have gotten back.

Not a lot else to write about tonight... so I'm going to sign off.

Home from Lucerne...

The Crying Lion monument in Lucerne...

This is for YOU Bette... the swans by the old bridge in Lucerne.

I *really* did jump! LOL! (but I can't jump very high! LOL)

I'M ON TOP OF THE WORLD!

We finally made it back home from Lucerne... we took the scenic route. We came through Liechtenstein on our way back and then up through Bregenz and stopped in Meersburg at the castle there on the way back. We slept in this morning and then went and picked up a couple last minute souvenirs for Angie. (And I got another Starbucks mug... a Lucerne one - I hope one of my kids want my "Starbucks" collection some day).

On the way up from Meersburg we hit a "stau." That's the German word for traffic jam. It was 37 kilometers long! SO... we got home about an hour and a half later than I had hoped to get home. We had an early dinner in Meersburg, I had some fresh lake fish that was actually quite good.

Okay... I'm going to sign off in hopes of being in bed by 10pm. It's already 9:30pm.

G'night.

Lucerne & Mount Pilatus!

Wow, what an amazing day! I can't wait to post some photos!we left the house about 6am and got down to Lucerne about 9am. We lucked out and were able to check into the hotel early. After that we set out to explore. We ended up taking the train out to the lake side of Mount Pilatus - I think it was alpenbach, or something like that. THEN we took the steepest cog train up to the top of Mt Pilatus. We were worried because rain was forecasted for all day, but all in all, we had a great day... No rain! We got some awesome photos on top of the mountain, then came back down and took a 90 minute boat ride across Lake Lucerne, back to the city of Lucerne. It was neat and SO internationally diverse (all the people we met along the way... The Chinese, the couple from Saudi arabia, the couple from Australia, the couple from Finland and the two guys from Ontario... It was neat!). We had dinner by the wooden bridge after checking out the Lion carving/monument. I got to get up close & personal with some of the swans, that was neat too. Tonight we went over to a casino for awhile, they got more of our money than we got of there's. Isn't that the usual story? Okay, it is WAY past my bedtime, not sure what we are doing tomorrow. Time to say goodnight! Auf Weidersehen, Kris

Friday, July 13, 2012

YAY! Another Friday!

This cute little house was up on the Palace grounds in Prague...the row of houses had been turned into little shops.

Bones of a nun in an alter in the smaller chapel up on the Palace grounds in Prague

This is the church that has the bones of the nun in the Alter.

So... work went pretty good. I had to get a new work ID, so I got that done. I sat and chatted for a bit with one of our nurse case managers and the medical social worker. My boss came back to work today (and of course asked if I had any more word on the job in Italy... which I don't). I got caught up on some of my online documentation today, so that was good. AND... I finally submitted the paperwork for my "official" passport today... hopefully I will have it back before I move to Italy (otherwise they will have to send it to me there). It's all about "baby steps" in trying to get everything *I* need to get done for the job transition. I did try to call the employment office in Italy a couple times, but I didn't get an answer. There is a part of me that says it is okay for them to take as long as they need to, and then there is a part of me that would like to go sooner rather than later (I don't want to be going over the alps in the wintertime, THAT's for sure!). I think I've mentioned more than once that they have to give me at least a 45 day transition time once I get my "official" offer. And here it is the middle of July (which means the earliest I can go now is the first part of September). Oh well... it will happen when it is supposed to.

Other than that, tomorrow Angie & I are planning to hit the road early for our drive down to Lucerne. We are hoping to take a cable and/or train up to Mount Pilatus. And yes... you can be sure I'll take plenty of pictures. I've been charging my camera batteries tonight, so THEY are ready to go. We are going to be staying at the Radisson Blu for free... thanks to a mileage promotion they had and I got 50,000 points which equates to a free night's stay!

Time to sign off... I've still got to get ready for tomorrow morning. I have some neighbor kids who are going to be taking care of the doggies for me. They *may* take the dogs down to their place. They have a Shitzu that Bruno & Peanut got to meet tonight. Anyway... whether they choose to leave the dogs here and come down frequently and take them out... or if they want to take the dogs down to their house... either way will work out. (There are 4 kids... oldest will be a senior this year (Caleb) and the Kelsey is going to be a sophomore, and then Micah is 11 (but tall and seems mature for his age) and then there is a younger brother who looks to be about 8.

Okay... signing off...

Tired Thursday...

Today it has been rainy most of the day, but thankfully this afternoon it cleared up and there was some great dog-walking weather.

Work went fine today, I had a relatively slow morning that allowed me to catch up on online documentation and this afternoon was busy and I did an informal therapy session with an admin person in our clinic.

After work I went to pick up my watches I had dropped off for repair. They repaired my Golden Nugget watch (the stem had broke) and replaced the battery, but they weren't able to fix my Rolex watch band without it costing $800 to $1000 (I can probably pick up a NEW watch band for THAT price!) So... THAT didn't get fixed.

Then I came home and got Angie and we headed over to the mall to get the spare cell phone working (FINALLY DID!). Whew... what a chore THAT has been!

I took the dogs out for two walks, one was about a mile long. Now it's 10pm and time to think about bed... so I'll sign off.

Interesting Tuesday...

These kids were dressed up in period garb for their visit to the Hohenzollern Castle! *smiles*

Stayed up too late last night trying to figure out where to stay in Lucerne this weekend (where I'm headed with Angie)... so I was feeling a little cranky this morning (I'm sure it's more subjective than anything... I doubt if anyone else notices). My morning wasn't too overwhelming, although it started off with a meeting that I'm feeling is more and more a waste of my time. I had a light-hearted moment at lunch time though with my favorite psychologist that I work with. He goes on twice as many cruises as I do. At lunchtime I was headed out to work with another co-worker and the Psychologist was approaching him... I jokingly called him "Cruiser" and he thought I said "Bruiser!" LOL!

This afternoon was busy and I was disrupted a few times dealing with an issue involving a new client. (This too shall pass... and it's not related to me).

After I got home I took the doggies for a short walk. And tonight I'm watching some TV. It's the first time this week I've watched a little TV.

Okay... I'm going to sign off...

Flowers...

Here are some flower photos I took down at Hohenzollern castle this past weekend. Beautiful, huh!

Work went okay today, it was spent doing administrative stuff... a formal "changing of the guard" for our clinic, we now have a new head boss. And one of my more immediate supervisors got a promotion.

Tonight Angie and I went to the Volksmarching club's monthly meeting/dinner. I always enjoy that. After we got home I downloaded all my photos (from two memory cards) onto my upstairs mainframe computer and now Angie & I are making plans to hopefully visit Lucerne this coming weekend. It's also lightening and thundering out so I am hesitant to take the dogs out for a potty break, and it's after 10pm.

So... will sign off...

It's another Manic Monday...

See Peanut smiling because she's back home? *smiles*

Well... today at work wasn't as busy as I had thought it would be... I had one no-show and I had one appointment reschedule, but my last appointment of the day ran over, so I finished up late.

AND... this morning we got an email that the head boss was having a going away party at 6pm tonight (so... no notice!). Thankfully Angie was kind enough to offer to take the dogs out this afternoon so I could just stay at work and go to the dinner. (And the restaurant apparently had NOT been told we were all coming... so were understaffed and getting food was a fiasco!). Anyway... it's over and done with. I got home and took the dogs for a short walk.

Tomorrow is the head boss' last day, so there will be formalities to deal with and then we get to meet the new head boss tomorrow afternoon. And THEN, I'm thinking we may get off early... so I may run home and pick up Angie and head to Triberg in the Black Forest. Time will tell.

Okay... it's already after 9pm, so I'm going to sign off.

Another Sunday bites the dust...

I love this picture of the statue at the Schlossplatz that I took through the flowers

The Schlossplatz looked to be a fun place to hang out today. They have a jazz festival going on down there, so you can hang out in the schlossplatz and listen without having to pay. It's nice.

I took Angie downtown to Stuttgart this afternoon so she has an idea about how to catch the train. She also went ahead and made her train reservation to go to Paris later this month.

Angie had a good time on the Chocolate train. She got in at midnight, and I was grateful for that. She WAS due in at 2:30 in the morning [groan]. I woke up this morning about 8:30 and thought we would be going grocery shopping this morning, but Angie didn't get moving til about noon (it's okay, it's her vacation). So, when she did get up and we were able to head out, we went and did some shopping and then came back home and had a late lunch before heading down to Stuttgart about 3pm. We didn't stay down there TOO long, Angie was feeling kind of tired so we headed back home about 6pm.

Okay... I'm going to sign off... it's after 9pm and I'm hoping to be ASLEEP by 10pm.

7th of July - My mama's birthday...

Thought I'd post a picture of my Mom in honor of what would have been her 88th birthday. Happy Birthday Mom... hope you're celebrating up there in Heaven!

This morning I slept in and according to my FitBit, I got *8* hours of sleep! Believe me, it was much needed! I got up and took the dogs out for their potty break, and then came back and stripped my bedding and got it all washed, then I re-made my bed later today. After getting a bite to eat for lunch, I took the dogs for a 2+ mile walk. They were tired little doggies, it has been awhile since they've gone for that long of a walk (I've got to get them back into shape!). Let's see... what else did I do today? Well, this afternoon I ran some errands. I picked up a cheap throw-away cell phone and another sin card, I'm hoping it will work for my friend Angie to call her friend in France and then I figure I can keep it for guests when they come (just have to change out the sim cards). I also went and dropped off my plastic bottles for re-cycling.

Tonight I took the dogs out for another short walk, then I've gave them a bath. I finally got their kennels out of the trunk of my car (I had taken them apart and put them back there when I picked up the dogs) and I've got their blankets washed along with Bruno's "bed." (the other one is being mailed back, it was too big to put in the kennel apparently). I also colored my hair tonight. (I color my hair in the upstairs bathroom where I can use the hose on the tub and that's also where I bathe the dogs, for the same reason and it's convenient. So... I also cleaned up the bathroom a little while I was there (that's the one Angie is using). I vacuumed the bathroom floor and the hallway floor upstairs. While upstairs, I got a nice treat. Someone was shooting off fireworks in the distance, so I got to watch them for about 10-15 minutes. That was an unexpected surprise!

Angie was able to go on the Swiss Chocolate train last night (I took her to the bus at about 1:30am last night). She wasn't supposed to be back until 2:30 am tonight, but called earlier and said they'd be in about midnight. Sure enough, they arrived about 11:55pm. (I got there AT midnight). Angie brought me back some cheese and some chocolate. Num, num!

AND... now it's past 12:30am... so I'd best sign off and head to bed.

Auf Wiedersehen!
