Here's an overlook view of Budapest... according to the weather channel, I should have nice (but cold) weather while I'm there this weekend, so that should be nice!"Budapest is the capital city of Hungary and the country's principal industrial, commercial and transportation centre. Budapest became a single city in 1873, occupying both banks of the Danube river with the amalgamation of Buda and Óbuda on the west bank with Pest on the east bank.
Budapest's recorded history begins with the Roman town of Aquincum, founded around 89 AD on the site of an earlier Celtic settlement near what was to become Óbuda, and from 106 until the end of the 4th century the capital of the province of lower Pannonia. The area was occupied around the year 900 by the Magyars, the ancestors of today's ethnic Hungarians, who a century later founded the kingdom of Hungary. Since the beginning of the 20th century, much of the country's industry came to be concentrated in the city of Budapest."

So... today was a busy day! I talked with my co-worker about weekend plans, she hadn't made any, so gave me her blessings and said she would watch the dogs this weekend while I head to Budapest. I'll watch her dogs over President's Day weekend. So, at lunchtime I went online and did the Germanwings blind booking. I put in (as I think I've mentioned before) for Eastern Europe. There were 6 choices initially, but I paid 10 euros to skip the 2 in Germany (I've already been to Dresden, which was one of the cities). That narrowed down where I might end up to Budapest, Belgrade, Zagreg and Krakow. And you don't find out where you are going until AFTER you pay. I have two other co-workers who are going to be up there. I tried to get the same hotel that one of them was staying in, but it was booked, so I found one that was nearby. I'm planning to use the metro to get around and to do the hop-on, hop-off bus. David (co-worker) gave me a hand-out with some information about Budapest and I've downloaded some information on my Ipad as well.
Who would have thought two weeks ago, when I was in Istanbul, that I'd be in Budapest this weekend? That's what I like about living in Germany, the ability to pick up and go to a different country for the weekend! How cool is that?
Work was busy today even though I only had 4 appointments or so. I stayed until 7:30 or so getting all my notes written tonight.
Okay...it's already late, so I'm going to sign off. (I had to run the dogs over to my co-worker's tonight).
Auf Wiedersehen!
I'll try to post from Hungary tomorrow night!
