And yet more photos from the Hohenzollern Castle

Well, so much for a quiet day at work. I met with my boss for awhile this morning and then we got a call about a couple who had been in an argument last night. I was able to call them and get them in to be seen. The spouse is VERY new to Germany and they are going to have a very rough time. Fortunately there is a local "lending closet" so I took her there and she was able to get some pots and pans and utensils to use (along with some other stuff) and then I found someone to take her to the store to buy a few groceries. I spent all afternoon with the couple.
After work I took the dogs for a 2.73 mile walk and it looks like I might get 14,000 steps in the for the day, YAY! Tonight I went and bought a used Ab lounger. I'm looking forward to using it.

Okay... I'm going to sign off for today.

Auf Wiedersehen!

There was a guy doing a "bird" show at the Hohenzollern castle this past weekend, I thought this hawk or whatever it is was pretty cool.

So... work was fine... very slow, I only had 1-2 appointments, but still managed to stay busy today, not sure what I did though... and tomorrow I don't have ANYone scheduled, so I have no reason to not finish three assessments that I need to get written up.

I took the dogs out for a 2 mile walk this morning because it was clear outside, and I'm glad I did because it has been raining since I got off work. I still need to get about 1 more thousand steps in today.

Sleep-wise, I was in bed by 10, but it took me 25 minutes to fall asleep, and I woke up something like 19 times, so I still got less than 7 hours of sleep. I'm gong to try and get to bed earlier tonight.

So... guess I'd better sign off...

Auf Wiedersehen.

Oh yea... I finished another book at lunchtime today, it was a good "military" type book, "Seal Team 6."

More pics from Hohenzollern

I thought I'd post a few more pictures tonight from the Hohenzollern castle that I went to on Sunday after my Volksmarch down that way. (How would you like to hike up to THAT one!!!???)

All is going well here, it was a relatively quiet day at work. And it is another HOT night. When I got home, my thermometer on my back porch said it was about 98* out. Yowza! I'm on call as of after work today, I'll have it for the next week. Hopefully I'll be as lucky as my boss? She didn't get any calls this last week. When I am on call, I tend to not wander as far away from home and I have to be careful how far I walk with the dogs as well. This morning I got up and did about 1.66 miles with them, will probably do about that much tonight. It looks like the temp is down to about 87*, so that's bearable.

I've been playing on the computer tonight... I've also been preparing for my cruise later in July. I've made my reservations for up in Hamburg and in Rome (I'm just going to stay at the same hotel my daughter Michelle & I stayed at last year when we were there... I know where it is and it is close to the train station, so that will be convenient). I'm going to spend 2 nights in Rome before heading home after the cruise. The only preparation (besides packing) that I need to do, is make my train reservation from Stuttgart to Hamburg, and then the reservation from Rome to Stuttgart (haven't decided if I am taking the train or flying back from Rome). It will all come together before I go (in like 24 days!!! WOW!).

Okay... time to sign off and take the dogs out for their bedtime walk. MAYBE??? I can get into bed by 9:45 and be asleep by 10? It's already 8:45.

Hot Monday!

I got home about 5pm and looked at the thermostat out on my back porch and it was about 95*, so I decided to postpone my walk with the dogs until a little later. I'll probably take them about 8:30pm or so. I decided to lay out on my hammock for awhile, so the dogs figured out they had to lay on my lap... it was a little hot for them. *smiles*

Work today was fairly quiet, I only had three appointments, but the rest of the week is even slower. It seems like everyone is on vacation or going on vacation. And I'll be losing four of my clients over the next few weeks as they transition out of here.

Okay... I'm going to sign off. By the way... my total steps for yesterday ended up being 24,239 steps! That equaled to 10.27 miles. WOW!!!! My best day for steps was back in June when I did the volksmarch up in Schwedelbach and then spent the rest of the day shopping up in that area. That time it was 26,314. So, I cam close yesterday, only a couple thousand steps less! *smiles*

I start my "on-call" tomorrow, I'll see how that impacts my walking. I'm supposed to be able to respond to a call within 30 minutes (and the police station I have to go to is about 20 minutes away). After this though, I don't have on-call any more for the month of July. I will be gone for a couple weeks though... I have a week of training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizng and Reprocessing), it is to help me, help those with PTSD. Then later in the month I'll be going on the Inaugural sailing of the Celebrity Silhouette ship. YAY!

Okay... signing off.

Volksmarch and Hohenzollern Castle

The Hohenzollern Castle...

So... after sleeping in for a little too long, I got up and drove down to Albstadt for the Volksmarch. I didn't realize it was just over an hour to get there... and so I got there about 12:30pm. I did the 11k walk. I *should* have done the 5k. The 11k was TOO much to do in the heat of the day. I think it was in the 80's. Then the flies during parts of the hike was SO bad I felt like I was pigpen off of the Snoopy cartoon. In the last hour of the walk it was going back through town I managed to find a hole the sidewalk and fell. Fortunately the worst thing that happened was skinning the palms of my hands. (I'm tough, I can handle it). The other worst thing of falling, was of course... someone else saw me fall (I reassured them I was fine).

On the way down to Albstadt, I passed the Hohenzollern castle. Its supposed to be the best castle that is closest to Stuttgart. It's about 45 minutes south of where I live). So, on the way back, I went up to the castle. THANKFULLY, there's a shuttle bus that takes you up from the parking lot, I don't think I would have ever made it walking (especially after doing the volksmarch). I think it must be at least a mile or two UPHILL to get to the top of the castle.

I got home a little after 7 and was going out to take the dogs for their walk, and my neighbors got home, so they ended up going for the walk with me (and I walked the dogs more than I had planned). Now it's 10pm and bedtime, so I'd better sign off (I was posting pictures on Facebook). I'll post more on here later this week.

Saturday night...

Tonight at the Dorffest - live band!

My lunch... currywurst und Brot mit un Cola (they didn't have cola light)

Holy Mackeral! Those are some sandwiches (mackeral? I don't know)

Kid's ride at the Dorffest in town (I live .55 miles from the center of town).

A shooting booth at the Dorffest.

S0... easy day. I took it easy this morning and then took the dogs over to the local pet store so I could pick up a couple things. One is a lead and halter for Bruno, so I can work on his NOT pulling when I take him for a walk and I got them some new treats.

Then I bought a bed from someone online. It's actually a futon bed, but they had a full mattress to put on top of the futon. So... they were gracious enough to come over and even put it together for me. So... now my 2nd guest room is set up for company! *smiles* (Bed is made and everything!).

I walked down to the Dorffest (Dorf means "Villiage" in German) and wandered around a little bit and got a bite to eat. Then came home and took the dogs for a short walk.

Tonight I went back down to the fest and listened to the live music (they were pretty good and I was surprised at how many songs were in English!).

Okay... bedtime if I hope to get up and do the Volksmarch tomorrow!

YAY! It's Friday!

This is the base of the fountain in front of the Rathaus in Tubingen.

So, this morning was quiet, I just had one appointment. Then this afternoon our office was at mandatory training all afternoon. It was frustrating, because one of the trainings is an annual requirement and we just went through it this past February. Ugh! It was after 4 before I got back to my office.

Tonight I did a 2.55 mile walk with the dogs... it was later than normal and as a result, we didn't have to pass any other doggies... but randomly, there was a German kid laying on the gravel road (down around a corner from where a bunch of kids were partying and had a fire going). I asked if he was okay, and he said yes, so I just continued on my way. Maybe he needed a break from his friends? Maybe he was just really snockered? I don't know. But, he did respond and responded coherently and appropriately.

Okay, I'm going to sign off. It's past my bedtime. I *do* need to take the dogs out for a last minute potty break... I wonder what the chances are that they will let me sleep in? Hrmph!

Ain't it Friday yet?

The youngest of the Barnharts... Noah could have easily fit into this suitcase. Wonder if the airlines really would allow this as your ONE piece of baggage? LOL!

Hello from Tubingen (we loved this house/building)

So... only two appointments today which allowed me to catch up on my paperwork.

After work I took the dogs for a 3.54 mile walk, which felt good! I've gotten almost 14,000 steps in today, so I'm happy about that!

Tonight I've been watching TV, surfing the web and doing some chores (vacuumed upstairs, swept the main floor).

I'm wanting to do a 2nd cruise this year. The same ship I'm going on a cruise on next month is doing a transatlantic (TA) sailing in late October. The board for that cruise is very active. It looks like it would be fun. It's just a matter of coming up with the money, and figuring out when my friends Bette & Walt are coming over (hopefully the 1st half of October or late September). There's at least one couple on the TA that was on the New Zealand cruise I was on a few years ago. It would be neat to see them again. So... I'll think about it for a little while longer. I don't expect the cost of the cruise to go down though. And right now I can get a flight back for just over $500. (It departs from Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy;nd goes to: Cagliari, sardinia, Italy; Palma De Mallorca, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; and ends in Cape Liberty, Bayonne, N.J.

Well, I'm going to sign off... I'm going to try and be in bed by 10. I still need to take one more walk with the dogs.

Long Day...

This hammock is over the creek/river that runs through Tubingen... wonder if anyone actually lays in it and if they can do so without taking a dunk! LOL!

Work went fine, I had a meeting first thing this morning, and then only had about 3 appointments today. I almost got caught up on my documentation... hopefully I will do so tomorrow.

After work the heaven's broke loose and the rain POURED! I guess there were several severe storm warnings and threats of hail. I had an appointment to get my nails done, so at least by the time I got done it had stopped raining. And then I went and picked up an office chair that someone was selling cheap (my desk in my dining area looks empty without a chair).

Tonight I just took the dogs for a short walk (it was pretty wet outside). We did 1.61 miles. So, as of this moment I'm within a 1000 steps of my 10,000 daily goal. Guess I'd better pace before bedtime. *smiles*

Speaking of which, it's almost 10pm, I'd better sign off and get ready for bed.

More Tubingen Pictures...

I found out that this Thursday is a German holiday and up in Tubingen they are going to have a "boat" race on the Neckar River, which is pretty darn small here in the town. That should be interesting! Wish I had the day off to go.

This figurine kind of thing was up on the side of a building. It's kind of cool, I think!
The Rathaus (City Hall)

This is a side view of the Rathaus.

So... work was steadily busy today, nothing too dramatic. My co-workers were all in meetings this afternoon, while I had three appointments scheduled (although the last one was a no-show, so I was able to get *some* paperwork done).

After work I took the dogs for a 3.14 mile walk. (YAY!). We had a good walk at a good speed, our time averaged less than 20 minutes a mile. Then I came back and had a protein drink for dinner and relaxed on my hammock for awhile. Then, someone was selling a floor lamp and I wanted another one for my bedroom, so I ran over and picked it up.

Now it's 9:40pm, time to go walk the dogs again for a short bedtime walk, and then head to bed.

So... I'll sign off.

Busy Tuesday... and long walk...

My company for this past weekend! Great visit!

I'm glad I have friends and family to share my burdens with, so I don't feel like I have to carry the whole world on my shoulders... *smiles*

So today was busy at work. This morning I had an appointment with a new family and because I need to do an assessment on all of them, the session lasted 3 hours!!! Yikes! Then this afternoon I had two more appointments (or was it 3?).

I came home and took the dogs for a 4 mile walk. After not getting 10,000 steps in yesterday, I thought I should walk extra today.

Tonight has been about vegging in front of the TV. But now it's already 9:30pm, so I'm going to sign off, take the dogs out real quick and then head to bed.

Rainbows & Sunset on another weekend

Double rainbow over my neighborhood (taken from the guest bedroom upstairs)

Another shot of the rainbow from yesterday

The skies were really colorful tonight here in Steinenbronn.

So... had a leisurely morning with the Barnharts. Vince's mom made us all breakfast (Thank you Mary!!!) and then we watched a good family movie before they left about 2pm.

Then this afternoon I went to a local play (local production? English-speaking). I knew two of the people in the play. The play was "Nunsense"

Here's a synopsis by Wikipedia:

Nunsense (1985) is a musical comedy with a book, music, and lyrics by Dan Goggin... Five of the 19 surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken, a one-time missionary order that ran a leper colony on an island south of France, discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, accidentally killed the other fifty-two residents of the convent with her tainted vichyssoise while they were off playing bingo with a group of Maryknolls. Upon discovering the disaster, Mother Superior had a vision in which she was told to start a greeting card company to raise funds for the burials. The greeting cards were an enormous success and, thinking there was plenty of money, the Reverend Mother bought a VCR and camcorder for the convent, leaving her with no money in the kitty to pay for the last four burials. With the deceased nuns on ice in the deep freeze, they decide to stage a variety show in the Mount Saint Helen's School auditorium to raise the necessary amount. Participating in the project are Mother Superior Mary Regina, a former circus performer who can not resist the spotlight; her competitive but dignified rival, second-in-command Sister Mary Hubert; Sister Robert Anne, a streetwise nun from Brooklyn; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is determined to be the world's first ballerina nun; and wacky, childlike Sister Mary Amnesia, who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. The entertainment that they present includes solo star turns, madcap dance routines, and an audience quiz.

Anyway, it was great. I didn't realize it would be a musical and I didn't realize that the two people I knew in there (Sister Hubert and Sister Robert Ann) were so talented!

Tonight I went over to my dog sitter's and took her the large kennel I have. She adopted a lab-mix dog and he's chewed the heck out of her couch and really needs to be crated until she can get him trained.

I haven't done my 10,000 steps tonight, but I just got off the phone with my middle daughter, we had a good long talk and now it's after 11pm and WAY past my bedtime... so I'll settle for the 6,000 or so steps and head to bed.

TTFN (ta ta for now)

Tubingen and again and again... *smiles*

Pictures from Tubingen

What a cool chair!

Sophie & my favorite statue in Tubingen

If this scene looks familiar, it's taken from about the same spot that the winter picture at the bottom of my blog was taken. It's beautiful, huh!

So... I've had a great day today with my friends from Wiesbaden. We went to Tubingen and spent quite a bit of time there browsing and had lunch there and then we went to the Ritter Sport Chocolate factory and the kids got to take part in a chocolate making class. It was nice, for about 6 euro, they were occupied for a couple hours and had a blast.

Tonight we grilled some bratwursts and had salad and fries for dinner. Mmmmm! It was great!

Okay... signing off. We've had devotions for the last hour or so with the two older boys, it's been wonderful, reading, praying and giving testimonies.

Work went okay today, I only had two appointments and we started off the day with a brunch potluck. To top it off, we got to leave about 45 minutes early. I did get a couple trainings in this afternoon (one was about counseling people who might be interested in kidney transplants - weird huh, the other one was on Alcohol Addiction).

My friends Andrea & Vince (and his parents and their 5 kids) came down tonight and will be spending the weekend with me. We are going to the Ritter Sport company and probably the Mercedes factory (instead of the Porsche factory).

Okay... signing off... so I can enjoy my friends.

This looks like a celebratory picture! *smiles*

So... why am I celebrating? I was just able to book a great deal on the brand new Celebrity Ship the Silloutte! It is currently under construction (getting finished up), in Hamburg, Germany. It will sail out of Hamburg on July 23rd and will spend about 3 days at sea before stopping for a day in Barcelona, Spain (new country to add to my list of countries visited... I think that will make #24) and then it will spend another couple days at sea before arriving at the port near Rome, Italy. Whoohoo! AND, I got a balcony suite cheaper than the latest advertised rates for the inside or ocean view cabins.

THAT'S my big news for the day.

Oh yea... and the fact that my friends the Barnharts are coming down to see me with their parents... so I'll have a house FULL of guests this weekend... all 9 of them AND a doggy! I'm happy... should be fun. We are going to go down to the old historic town of Tubingen and then will be going to the Ritter Sport Chocolate Factory/Company and will also visit the Porsche Museum. Should be a fun weekend. I'm making a big pot of Speghetti for dinner tomorrow night.

Other than that... took the dogs to the Vet today, they got a couple shots and a blood test. And guess who had to hold them while they got the needles. Yep, me. Guess who almost passed out before it was all said and done... yep, me. I had to sit down. I did okay with Peanut, but Bruno yelped (he does that at the slightest thought he might get hurt... like when he gets his nails clipped)... and I think that sent my heart into the flight or fight response... and thankfully it didn't take too long, because I don't think I would have lasted 1 more minute standing. LOL. (well... it's not really funny... but if you don't laugh...).

Work went okay, I had two individual sessions and one couple and I was able to get all caught up on my notes. HOOORAY.

Tonight I've been spending too much time on the computer (finding the good rate and making the reservations), I have done a little more laundry, right now I have my pillow covers from my couch and the afghan from the couch, in the wash (too much doggy hair). I've cleaned up downstairs (didn't need too much, mainly sweeping). I've made blueberry muffins and bisquits for a breakfast potluck at work tomorrow. It's after 9 now, but I'm tempted to go make some carrot cake muffins for tomorrow night (when my company gets here). I still need to sweep this main floor and go inflate the bed upstairs (in the 2nd guest room) and get that bed made. Vince's parents (who I have met) are going to sleep in Guestroom #1 (with a real bed), Andrea & Vince will sleep in room #2, with the automatic inflatable bed, the three youngest kids will sleep in guest room #3 on the camping inflatable mattress, and then the two oldest boys (both graduates this year) will be sleeping in the livingroom, one will sleep (most likely) in the recliner and the other on the couch (which is quite comfortable!).

Okay... signing off... still have a lot to do before bedtime. Oh yea... since I had to take the dogs to the Vet, I got to go in late, so I took the dogs for their walk this morning, glad I did, it was raining pretty steadily when I got off work. They still need their bedtime potty break though.

Photos from walking today...

A hunting stand in the woods... I wonder if I have to worry about hunters in the fall in the area where I walk?

So... today at work was fairly busy. I got some assessments written up this morning for a family I saw yesterday, I felt like that was quite an accomplishment. I think I got 3/6 notes written for today. My last appointment didn't get off until just after 4. Then I was talking with my boss and a couple of my co-workers and didn't leave work until 5. I came home and took the dogs for a walk... not a really long one... 2.38 miles, but at least I've got my 10,000 steps done for today, I'm currently at 11,700, so I should break 12,000 steps today. I'm doing good, I've done at least 10,000 steps a day this week (of course... I started off the week on Sunday with over 20,000). I'm already 76% of the way to my 70,000 weekly goal. *smiles* I don't think I'm addicted to walking... but I do it because the dogs need walking and overall, I feel better that I have done it. I've gone down a couple pants sizes since I started walking, so that's a positive thing. I'm halfway to my summer weight loss goal, that's another positive thing. *smiles*

Speaking of losing weight... I'm watching a new TV series over here, tonight, called "What's Eating You". It's about food disorders. I think this is the 3rd week I've watched it. It's interesting to watch.

Okay... signing off!

Short post...

So... again... one of those days without a lot to post. It's been rainy here most of the day, one of my families couldn't make it to their appointment due to the rain, another one had to cancel because they had a death in the family. So, work-wise it was pretty quiet. After work I took the dogs for a short walk (just over a mile) because it was thundering in the neighborhood and threatening to downpour.

Now it's almost bedtime... so need to take the dogs down to the field and then start getting ready for bed.

See... not a lot to write about... but I know *some* people would miss it if I didn't post! (right Bette!! LOL!).

These were flowers along my way on the Volksmarch in Schwedelbach this past weekend.

So... not much to write about today. I took a Mental Health day. I got up this morning and took the dogs out for a walk and then laid back down, I read a little bit and then fell back to sleep until about 2:20pm. (WOW!). I guess you could say I dozed off and on, because I ahd the doggies in bed with me. Then I got up... took a shower, then took the dogs out for another walk, just over a mile long (it started to rain). I had a sandwich, some cherries and some crackers, then laid back down on the couch and snoozed again until 8pm or so. I've also done a couple loads of laundry today, but not much else. I just took the dogs for another mile long walk, came home and had some strawberries with whip cream and will be going to bed in about 45 minutes or so. I'm hoping that if I wake up early tomorrow, it will be nice outside and I can take the dogs for a walk before work.

Okay... I'm signing off...

Another 11k walk... in Wolfschlugen

C'mon... let's go!

Much of the Volksmarch was like this...

I wonder if this is feed corn or eating corn? And look at all the lines in the sky... (contrails)

The area around the town... nice map!

So... not a lot to write about today. I got up this morning and felt like I could do another Volksmarch today - and it was a *beautiful* day outside... so, off I went. This volksmarch was about 25 minutes from where I live, in the town of Wolfschlugen. I'd never even heard of that town before, but I guess that's not too unusual, there are a LOT of small towns over here.

I left the dogs home... and had a good pace, about 18.30 mile. (Good for me, considering I don't run and I have a blister on my left foot from yesterday... a little one on one of my toes... you wanted to know that, didn't you!). After the walk I visited with some of my fellow club members (from the Volksmarching club I belong to). Then I came home, took the dogs for a short walk... rested a little bit on my hammock and then went over to my neighbor's across the street for dinner. Her husband and daughter are in the States for about a month, she's her with her son (who couldn't get out of school early because he had too much school work to do yet). I think Dad's coming back in a couple weeks and will then have both kids in the States for most of the summer (he's going back to spend time with his family there, then will be back in time for the kids to start the new school year).

Okay... signing off.

Lots and Lots of walking!

Scenic view while doing the 11k today in Schwedelbach

Farming area...

The symbol (crest?) for Schwedelbach...

I vaguely remember this building from when I lived in Mehlbach before...

See... I really did make it!

SO... I got up this morning and headed out a little before 7:30am. It takes a little more than 2 hours to get up to the Ramstein area. I headed straight to Schwedelbach and I drove around the town a little bit before the Volksmarch (there in Schwedelbach). I was trying to find the house where I used to live. I wasn't successful there OR in Mehlbach. Darn! But... a lot has changed in 30+ years.

I did the 11k walk. My Runkeeper said it was 6.78 miles. My fitbit says I have walked a total of almost 25,700 steps so far today (and still need to take the dogs down to the field for their last potty break).

After my volksmarch, then exploring the towns (Schwedelbach & Mehlbach), it was neat seeing so many of the towns I remembered the names of while exploring up there... I went to the Air Force base and did some shopping and had a late lunch at the Macaroni Grill. Then I stopped and got some gas and did some grocery shopping. For some reason, my GPS brought me back a different way (which was nice, and not TOO much slower), but I didn't get home until just after 8pm. I took the dogs down to the field and let them run for a little bit. For a late snack tonight, I had fresh strawberries with whip cream. (I did good earlier... I skipped Cinnabon's and the movie butter popcorn!).

Okay... it's 10pm. Time to take the dogs for another brief break and then head to bed. I'll decide in the morning if I am going to do the Volksmarch in the Esslingen area (not too far from here). I'd love to be able to do two Volksmarches this weekend (after all... I *am* taking Monday off... *smiles*).

Time to sign off.

Friday, June 10, 2011

Hooray, Hooray, It's Friday!

This was from the last volksmarch I did up in the Ramstein area (in Ramstein/Miesenbach). I'm going up tomorrow morning to do an 11k walk. Hope I'm up to it. Guess I'll take an extra pair of shoes or flip-flops to switch into when I'm done! *smiles*

Tomorrow the town I'm going to is Schwedelbach. That's the first town I lived in 32 years ago when I was here in Germany the first time. I hope I can find the house we lived in back then. It shouldn't be TOO hard... it was right across the street from a cemetery. There can't be TOO many of those up there... right? Then... depending on my time, I may drive out to Mehlbach, which was the last town we lived in before leaving Germany. I probably won't recognize THAT house, I'm sure the landlord finally finished the outside of the house (you have to pay more for a finished house). But... it will be fun exploring. I'm going to leave the doggies home tomorrow because I want to do some shopping and don't want to worry about them being in the car for any length of time.

Today was easy at work, I had one cancellation and one appointment. I worked on other things though.

This morning I took the dogs for about a 1 mile walk before work (I woke up a little early) and then after I got home, we did a 2. 32 mile walk. I've done 11,400 steps so far today (so will probably make it to 12,000 steps today) and I'm at 96% of my goal for 77,000 steps for a week. with my 11k tomorrow and the shopping I plan to do, I'm sure I'll surpass my goal by quite a bit!

Okay... I'm going to sign off. This post WAS longer, but when I went to publish it, I got an error. So... it will be a couple paragraphs shorter. The only thing I'll mention (that got deleted) was that I saw another fox on the walk after work today. It's the 3rd or 4th fox I've seen. Sometimes I wonder if I have to worry about the dogs. I don't know. Hope not. For now the foxes seem to just run off and I barely catch a glimpse of them.

Auf Wiedersehen!
