We are family...

In this picture, back row Don, Charlie & Keith, front row, Karen Kris & LaVaune. In order of age would be: from youngest to oldest: Karen, (David is missing from the picture), Don, Kris, LaVaune, Charlie, & Keith.

So... I am back safe & sound in Hawaii. My flight was a little late getting back. It's now almost midnight. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to go up there to Spokane. It helped me bring closure to letting go of Koen. I think meeting Melanie & Andy put me at ease quite a bit. They are terrific people! I think Kori will have on-going opportunities to see Koen as he grows.
I also appreciated the fact that I got to see ALL of my siblings. I wish my youngest brother were more included in family activities (he's the black sheep), and I regret that I only got to see him for about 10 minutes (but I did see him before I saw ANYONE else, including my daughter & grandson!).
I'm VERY hoarse tonight. It's gotten progressively worse. I was hoping that I wouldn't get kicked off the flight for being sick (they are so paranoid these days!). But... I'm here, safe & sound. I'm going to go gargle with some salt water now and hope that helps my throat.
Aloha!

Tired!

So...
I'm not going to post any pictures tonight, I'm tired and want to go to bed soon.

Yesterday I stayed up at the hospital until about 7pm. I'm glad I had the time to spend with my grandson and I feel good about the adoptive parents, they are wonderful and will take good care of Koen.

After leaving the hospital I headed out to the Spokane Valley where my nephew & his family, my sisters & their families, go to sing Karaoke. My granddaughter was there as well and I enjoyed being able to listen to her sing a couple songs! Watch out American Idol in a few years! (she's only 6!). I left there a little after 9, stopped by my older sister's house to pick up some things before heading out to my oldest brother's place where I spent the night last night. It was good to see my oldest brother & his wife. (And they have a VERY beautiful home on about 5 acres!).

This morning I woke up and spent about an hour laying in bed (cuddled up under some warm blankets) and talked with my daughters, and my sisters. I met my younger sister just after noon and we went & got our nails done together... nice sister bonding time! *smiles* After that it was time to head over to my nephew's house (JJ's) for a mini family reunion. I got to see 3 of my brothers there and both of my sisters were there. I also got to meet my cousin's son (second cousin), and his dad stopped over as well (I haven't seen that cousin in probably 30 years at least!). My youngest brother David didn't come over... he's kind of the "Black sheep of the family" and doesn't make it to very many family functions. That's a bummer. I did see him yesterday, briefly.

After the mini reunion this afternoon, my older sister, my "oldest" sister-in-law & I headed up to my brother Charlie's place - his wife was hosting a pampered chef party. I bought some small things & they will send them to me in Hawaii. It was good to see Laurie, but an extra special treat was seeing my nieces Alicia & Barbie, and my great neice Tessa.

Okay... time to sign off. My clock says it is about 11:15pm. Time to head to bed.

Aloha!

Koen Xavier, born 01/29/10, weighing in 8lbs, 15oz and 22" long!
Ain't this cute?
My daughter Kori with Koen
Melanie & Koen... she's just as tired as Kori! It's been a long 24 hours for both of them! Melanie's the adoptive mother.

I got to feed Koen a little bit. He's a big boy! I guess he was about 9 hours old when I got to meet him!

So... needless to say that I made it to Spokane okay. I'm not going to post much now, because I want to spend time with my daughter, granddaughter & grandson.
Aloha!

I'm leaving... on a jet plane...

I took these photos this morning from my bathroom window. Aren't I just the luckiest person in the world to wake up and have the opportunity to look out at a sight like this??? I think I am!

First... work was VERY busy. The whole morning was spent on a videoconference dealing with new policies that are being put into place. Then the afternoon was spent doing case presentations all afternoon. Whew! It was exhausting!
Then I got the news this afternoon that my youngest daughter was having stronger contractions and so she was going to head to the hospital with the anticipation that she would get admitted. She did get admitted. Now the hard part is getting her to calm down enough to get an IV put in! She's scared to death of needles (no saying where she got THAT from! *wink*).
Anyway... I think as the time has gotten closer, the more I've fretted about it, I've given consideration to flying up there. She's having a boy, and this will be my first grandSON. I had always wanted a son, but never had one (but I did get three WONDERFUL daughters!). She's going to give Koen up for adoption and has personally hand-picked the family that will be adopting Koen. They seem like a wonderful family. (Kori's 26, she has a daughter, isn't married & felt like she just couldn't give the baby all that it would need without depriving Kiara, my granddaughter). SO...
Anyway... after talking with her this afternoon, I decided to check the airfare from here to Spokane and was surprised to find it right at $500 total. That is one heck of a deal. And I don't have to worry about transportation up there, or a place to stay (all my siblings live there!). I talked to my supervisor and she gave me permission to take tomorrow off if I wanted to go. So... I called Kori back and asked her if she would like me to come up... of course she had MY family members in the room saying "yes! yes! yes!...(*wink* ). So... I went online and booked a reservation. My flight goes out at 10:15pm (and it's almost 8... do you think I should go pack???) and I will be into Spokane about 9:30am tomorow morning. Then... I fly back on Sunday, getting back about 9:30pm.
I may NOT be posting for a couple days... but will post again as soon as I am able! Got to scoot!
Aloha!

Quick post

So... I've had a VERY long day, I worked til 8pm and I'm tired & have the beginnings of a head cold. I've made my dinner, watched a little TV & it's time to take the pups back out for another walk.
No grandbaby yet. I talked with my youngest daughter a couple times to see how she was doing. I also talked with my oldest daughter who, at the moment, is very frustrated with her daughter (my oldest granddaughter). I don't think there are any easy answers for my oldest daughter & granddaughter.
Last night I stayed up too late trying to get a preliminary idea about my tax situation (Federal). It looks like I might just get a refund this year! About darn time! I'm SICK & TIRED of paying so much into taxes and then having to pay an extra $1,000 or so at tax time. Heck... I claim ZERO exemptions AND have them taking an extra $10 a payday for both Feds & State taxes. Last year I actually GOT a refund for the State (which about covered the extra I owed the Feds)... and then tonight I got a letter from them with a 1099-G form stating that I have to tell the IRS that I got a refund on my state taxes. HUH? Why should THAT matter??? It is a darned if you do, darned if you don't situation!

Okay... if I don't want to go to bed mad, I'd better sign off. *smiles*

Early Bedtime?

So... I'm wiped (again) tonight. Last night there was a very windy storm that came through about 2:45 am. I had to get up and shut my bedroom windows because I had rain coming in! Then my pups woke up several times after that. I didn't get up until 6:30 or so... but I felt like I could have slept til noon!

Work itself was busy, although I had a couple no shows this afternoon... and while I appreciate the occasional no-shows, I still need to track these clients on a weekly basis.

My youngest daughter still hasn't had her boy, she is due this weekend. The Adoptive mom's birthday is tomorrow, so it would be nice if Koen decided to give his adoptive mom his first birth DAY present.

My middle daughter is prepping for more college interviews and had to chuckle at the irony that the college up in Alaska where she grew up is hiring. She doesn't really want to go back up there, so she's hoping one of these other jobs pan out. She has an interview in WA late next week, and then the middle week of third week or so Feb she has another job interview up in Iowa.

My oldest daughter is getting tired of being in the cold in Alaska... and at times she would like to pack it all in and move out! *smiles*

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Aloha!

Great day off!

So! I had a wonderful day off today, it was productive AND relaxing. I got up at 7:30 this morning (after staying up til 3:30am or so! Which was crazy!). I had to be ready for the guys that were coming over to clean out my dryer vent. Since I had time to kill, after I took the pups for their walk, I took my seat covers off in my car and got those washed (I did two loads of laundry, because this morning Peanut threw up on the sheet I had on the couch and also managed to get one of the pillow covers, so I washed all that too). In addition, I took the pups out a couple times and gave them a bath. I cleaned out the laundry closet area, emptied most of it out so they could get in behind the washer & dryer (they are a stacking set). So... this morning felt very productive!

This afternoon I stopped and got my car washed on the way to the beach. I also stopped by the Pearl City Glass place so that I can FINALLY get a new mirror for the top part of my curio cabinet that I bought just after I moved into my current apartment (almost 2 years ago). I got a heck of a deal because the mirror was cracked (the top one). SO... now I will have a new mirror for the back of the curio cabinet after this coming weekend. AND... I'll get to take my figurines out their boxes and enjoy them now!

The beach was great, my only regret was not getting there an hour or more earlier. But... I did get to enjoy soaking up some sun for a couple hours. I snoozed. Ahhhh... it felt so good. It wasn't very hot out (I didn't get there until about 3pm), just the right temp for snoozing/dozing. Give me a towel, my Ishuffle (some music) and I'm good!

After the beach I stopped to get gas and while I was there, I went ahead and vacuumed out my car. I think my car is the cleanest it has been in over a year and a half. Idealy I would have wasked my rubber floor mats, but oh well.

Then I had to stop by the store to pick up some more puppy pads. I got those, a doggy toy (that is supposed to be good for cleaning their teeth), some poop bags, (now... dogs are taken care of), I got 8 extra plain white Correl dinner plates. Right now when all my company comes, it is either use my "Friendly Village" dishes, or paper plates. So... now I'm set up for a larger group of company (now I need a larger apartment to accomodate all of them! *smiles*).

Tonight I've just been watching "The Bachelor." I'm getting ready to take my pups for their walk... (the picture below is one I took yesterday... don't they look cute???!!!!). Then I'll be heading to bed. Ready to face another busy week!

Voggy days & Sundays

Rainbow Falls on the Big Island near Hilo.

So... I had two couples over for dinner today. Guy & Nikki, Barb & Bob. Today was the first time this year for Barb & Bob. I like all of them. Barb reminds me of my Auntie Joy that passed away quite a few years ago. Barb has the same kind of personality. My only problem is - Guy & Nikki don't care a lot for Barb & Bob. Mainly because Barb talks so much. I'm okay with that... and I know Guy has trouble because then HE can't get a word in edge-wise. *smiles* Bette talks a lot too. But... Bette & Barb are BOTH married to guys who are very quiet, so to me it's a no-brainer, that when they are with other people that they can socialize with... they do! Next week will be interesting, because I'll have all three couples (Bette & Walt got in tonight) over for dinner in my tiny apartment! *smiles*

Today I made Rouladen for dinner. It's a delicious German dish (at least that's where *I* learned how to make it - in Germany). You take some thinly sliced Top Round steak (3" X 6-8"), lay a slice of the meat out, spread mustard over it, sprinkle salt & pepper, then place a quarter dill pickle, a slice of cooked bacon, and a green only on one end and roll it up. I use toothpicks to hold them together. Then you brown the rolled meat and let it simmer in gravy until it is cooked and tender. I made 12, I think I still have half of them left (some of the meat slices were huge this time!). It IS good leftover though. Then, I decided to make instant mashed potatoes to go along with it (I *knew* I should have gone to the store to get some potatoes to quarter & have boiled potatoes, which is what my German landlady used to make with her Rouladen). But... I used a measuring cup I seldom use, I thought it was a little large for a 2 c, but AFTER wards, I found out it is a 4c measuring cup (it doesn't have "cup" measurements on the side... I don't know where in the world I picked this measuring cup up... but now I know... 4c!). SO... I used too much water and ended up making potato soup! LOL! It was okay... I cooked it down a little... but it was still a little runny! And I made mixed vegetables to go along with the dinner. For desert I made 7-layer bars (just using a mix). I also made Rice Krispie squares this morning and I made Rotel Cheese dip for an appetiser. I usually make an appetiser to have ready when my guests arrive, and then about an hour & a half to two hours later, I serve dinner. I had a bag of the Tortilla scoop chips. Anyway, for the Rotel cheese dip, I get the MILD Rotel diced tomatoes (in a can), you take a block of Velveeta cheese (not the smallest one) and you use browned hamburger. You cut the velveeta into cubes and melt it down (I did it in the microwave with stirring every few minutes). Then put the Rotel tomato stuff in along with the hamburger (cooked & minced?). Stir it all together, heat it a little more and it's done. I think I'm making it sound more difficult to make than it is. LOL!

I also watched most of the football games today, I was rooting for the Jets & the Vikings... guess who won... NOT the Jets or the Vikings! So... now in 2 weeks I'll have to figure out who to root for, the NO Saints or the Indianapolis Colts. I've been to Indy, but never to New Orleans. Hmmm? I don't think I really care which wins. Barb & Bob are from MN, so of course, we were rooting for the Vikings today!

My company left about 5, with most of my dishes done & feeling over-stuffed, I laid down for about an hour and then went down and cleaned out my car a little, so I could make room for Bette & Walt's luggage. I REALLY need to get my car detailed!!!! (and I'm too lazy to do it myself!).

Oh yea... and today was VERY voggy... you couldn't even see Diamond Head from my apartment. Hopefully it will go away soon. The Vog comes from the volcano activity on the Big Island, when the wind blows just right (from the SE) then the "Vog" comes over the rest of the island chain.

Bette & Walt got in just after 7, so I headed in to pick them up. I'm about 15 minutes or so away from the airport, so if someone calls me (that I am expecting in at the airport) when they land and before they get off the plane, I can generally be there at the baggage claim to pick them up by the time they taxi in, get off the plane, get to the baggage claim & get their luggage. It works pretty good. In fact, if I want to, and if I know exactly when they are coming in (I use flight aware online to watch their progress), then I can often see their plane as it is coming in, from where I live.

Anyway... it was GREAT to see Walt & Bette. I took them into the Pagoda where they stay each year (in the same room!), helped them get their luggage up to their room, and then we walked across the street to where Nikki & Guy are staying and we had dinner with them (about 8:30 or so). I left them about 10pm to head home.

Tomorrow I am off from work. The building management folks are having someone come & clean out the dryer vents (that go to the outside), for my building tomorrow. They said they needed someone at home tomorrow (no idea what time they are coming or how clean I need to have my laundry area for access). So... I'm taking a comp day. I'm HOPING that they come in the morning so I can head into town for some quality beach time in the afternoon.

I'd like to go get my nails done tomorrow, get my car washed, maybe I can get it vacuumed out too? Then I'd like to get some beach time in. Time will tell.

Okay... now it's midnight... guess I should sign off and think about getting to bed soon.

Aloha!

- Kris

P.S. My youngest daughter still hasn't had her baby... although she's been having irregular contractions now for the past few days. At this point, I am hoping she can hold out til Wednesday because that is the adoptive mother's birthday. That would be a wonderful present for Melanie (the adoptive mother)!

Al Green in concert...

Al Green, up close & personal!

First... today worked from about 9-2:30pm, we did some strategic planning and then I had to take care of a couple other things regarding a particular client that had difficulties this week.
Tonight I went down to the Al Green Concert... something I've been waiting for since before November (when I purchased my ticket!). I got there early (amazingly!) and then waited around for about an hour for the concert to begin. I should have gotten a clue, the place wasn't very crowded! I heard someone say that only 2000 tickets had been sold.
A little after 8, this woman comes in with her band... she's a local woman I've never heard about, she sings through her nose... which annoys me because I cannot understand her very well... and quite frankly, her music was rather boring, in my opinion. Then there was about a half an hour wait before Al Green came on... so it seemed like it was forever. The concert was to start at 8, and Al Green didn't come on stage to sing until about 9:15pm and he was done by about 10:30pm. Quite a difference from Elton John who sang for 3 solid hours! (That's why Elton John can sell out concerts, I imagine... he gives you your money's worth!).
As for Al Green and his portion of the concert, he was very entertaining, engaging and had everyone in the audience singing along with him on many songs. He put his spiritual message in, and it didn't seem to bother any who weren't of that influence (not that I could tell anyway!).
I did get one of the roses he was handing out (I was in the front row). At one point a WHOLE bunch of women came rushing up to the stage (to get a rose, to shake his hand, some to give him a lei)... and security had the dickens of the time getting them to leave the stage area. I'm glad Security was there to keep the crowds back... I paid over $100 (with fees) to see Al Green in concert and I didn't want to be in a mosh pit. As it was, there was a couple sitting next to me and the guy reeked of body odor and alcohol. (NOT a good combination for ME to tolerate!!!). UGH!
I did get some good pictures though and video-taped a couple songs. I was hoping he was going to sing "Lean on Me," but he never did. Darn! And he hasn't played much in Hawaii before apparently, because almost EVERY concert I've been to, people shout "Hana Hou, Hana Hou" (basically asking for another song) and the performer(s) come out and play one or two more songs. Not so for Al Green... when he was done, he was done. It's hard to believe he is only about 64 years old... I would have thought he was in his late 70's at least. It almost seem like maybe he's losing it mentally? I hope no. He has a wonderful voice, a wonderful gift.
Okay... time to sign off. Bette & Walt get in tomorrow night, I hope they do okay with the weather!
Aloha!

THREE's

So...

#1) Today my oldest daughter turned 31.
#2) My middle daughter FINALLY made it back to Tucson, late tonight, after dealing with lost luggage & being delayed by a traffic accident on her way back from Phoenix to Tucson.
#3) My youngest daughter went to the doctor's today, she is 50% effaced and dialated 1cm. She's been having contractions more regularly tonight, and thinks she may be going to the hospital sometime tonight. The doc said to come in when contractions are closer than 10 minutes and they are almost there now. I'm leaving my phone on tonight.
Other than that... I had a long day, not necessarily an easy one. I spent the better part of the morning reviewing notes on one client (not just mine, but all his providers) so that I could be prepared for a meeting with a psychiatrist, then found out that the Psychiatrist wasn't even IN today! This afternoon I had a client come in (brought in) in a crisis. I was able to get them to contract for safety and made sure they had a safety plan to get through the weekend. I also found out that out of four cases currently scheduled to be presented next week, I'm responsible for three of them!
I didn't even get to start on my notes until after 4pm today and I did't get out of work until 7:30! Tomorrow I'm going into work for a few hours to help my supervisor with some planning and organizing. There will be 3-4 of us there. If we get out of there early enough, I'm hoping the weather will be nice enough to go to the beach! At least the comp time will come in handy and I can take an unscheduled day off sometime in the next month or two.
I did find out that I get to go to Phoenix in August with my co-workers, that'll be nice. Also, the 3rd week of February I'll be going down to Waikiki every day for a week, for some training. I'm looking forward to it.
Okay... I'm going to sign off, it's after 9, and Peanut is begging me to take her (them) for a walk.
Aloha!
- Kris
P.S. BETTE & WALT... have a safe trip over the next two days! Can't wait to see you.

This is where I should be....

This is where I should have been today, this is where I would have LIKED to have been today. I am over due some quality beach time, relaxing, soaking up some sun and listening to some good music.

Work was hectic today, nothing I couldn't really handle, although I didn't get all my notes done. I don't know if it is just because my doc took me off one medication and has started me on another, but I find myself being a little more stressed and moody. Tonight I am telling myself "this too shall pass."

Tomorrow I don't have ANY clients scheduled (although I should call one and get them in). I'm hoping I can get caught up on some paperwork and sort through some piles of paper that are increasing on my desk. We had originally been told to keep our schedule open for tomorrow afternoon and we were supposed to have had a staff meeting first thing in the morning, with a chance of possible training after that. As it stands right now, we just have a one-hour staffing just after lunch and that'll be it.

My youngest daughter has her doctor's appointment tomorrow, hopefully she will find out a little more about the impending birth of Koen. Her due date is the 27th, so either way it shouldn't be long for her now.

My middle daughter had her on-campus interviews at the first college today. She had something like 5 interviews with various people on the campus, she had to teach a class and give a talk. She had to be up at 6:45am (3:45am Arizona time) and didn't get back to her hotel room until after 9pm. If she takes the job there, she will teach 2 classes one semester and 3 classes the other semester. She will get a pretty decent starting salary (not sure how much they will take out in taxes tho!). Fortunately, she will have this position from which to compare the other two.

Okay... I'm going to sign off. I'm VERY tired and hopefully there won't be something on TV at 8 that I'm going to be dying to see... I hear the bed calling my name.

Aloha....

good exercise!

First... I don't know what it is, but traffic has been a nightmare on the little 2 lane road I take to work. WHY does it have to be backed up for 5 miles? There's just no reason that I can see. UGH! Other than that, I had a real, real busy day today (just as busy as it was yesterday!). It seems like my job is becoming busier every day. Tomorrow I have a meeting in the afternoon (I have to present 3 cases at the staffing tomorrow), I'm hoping for an hour free... hopefully there won't be a walk-in.

I worked an extra hour or so, then came home & changed and headed to the gym. I put my Ipod on and worked out for an hour on the Eliptical machine. It said I burned over 550 calories (yea!)... I stopped on my way home from the gym and got a salad. I ran into a couple of my former co-workers there, it was nice to see them (at the gym).

Keep my youngest daughter Kori in your thoughts & prayers, she is due to deliver before the end of the month, she doesn't think she'll make it to the end of the week at this point. She's expecting a little boy and due to life circumstances, has made adoption arrangements for him (the adoptive parents have been very much involved for the past couple months, and have named the boy Koen Xavier (that's a neat name!)). Anyway, carrying Koen has been hard on Kori, she's been having a lot of back pain to the point of having pinched nerves affecting her legs. I've seen pictures of the adoptive family (Melanie & family), they seem like a really nice couple. They have two boys already, so I'm sure they can tackle one more! *smiles* Today Kori was having about 1 contraction an hour, on average. She's looking forward to delivering so she can feel better.

Okay... time to sign off. It's already 10:30pm and I am sure that my "baby" Peanut (okay... she's over a year old, she's still my baby girl at this point) will have me up around 5-5:30am. Ugh!

Aloha!

what a busy day!

So... I left early for work and was grateful for doing so, there was an accident on the road that I take to work. Fortunately not all the emergency vehicles had gotten there yet, so traffic wasn't as backlogged as it was going to get shortly after I went past that area! It didn't really look like anyone was seriously hurt, my guess is that the ambulance was going to come check the guy for whiplash.

Work itself was busy, I think I saw 8 clients today (not all for an hour each). I did get out of work by about 4:45 and then headed to the gym where I did 35 minutes on the Elliptic type machine and 10 minutes on the recumbant bike, then I spent about 10-15 minutes in the jacuzzi before coming home.

Tonight I've just been watching "The Biggest Loser" and playing with the pups.

Tomorrow my middle daughter is flying out for her first job interview in a long, long time. She's going all the way up to New Brunswick Canada (a providence on the other side of Maine). I wish her much luck & safe travels. It'll be good for her no matter what, because she has two more job interviews coming up, so this will be kind of a trial run, if nothing else. Guess I should go check the weather up there to see what she is going into.

Okay... time to sign off, news will be on shortly and then I need to take the pups for a walk before going to bed. I hope I sleep better tonight, Peanut kept waking me up from about 5am on. Ugh!

Aloha!

Avatar

This bottom picture has "Punchbowl" in it (the brownish color "hill" in the middle). Punchbowl is where the Cemetery of the Pacific is located (and where Barack Obama's grandpa is buried).
I took these photos from the parking garage of the Dole Cannery theater. It's gives you a view of Honolulu.
I went to see "Avatar" this afternoon. I went in to the Dole Cannery because a co-worker recommended that I see it in Imax (a large theater screen). I got there about a half an hour early, for the first showing of the day and was told that the movie was all sold out until 7pm. So, I had to wait for the regular 3D showing of Avatar which wasn't until 2:40 (and it was only 11:30am). Go figure. So, I wandered around Dole Cannery (not much to see there) until about an hour before the movie started then had to stand (sit) in line until the movie started. The movie was fairly long, almost 3 hours! It was an okay movie, I might have enjoyed it more had I been able to see it in the Imax movie and if I hadn't had to sit and wait 2 hours to see it!

As it turned out the weather cleared up this afternoon and I could have enjoyed the afternoon soaking up some sun and getting more on my "to-do" list done.
I *did* get my oldest daughter's card bought and put into the mailbox, and I got my friend Michelle's stuff sent off. I also got my hair cut. But... I *didn't* get my nails done, and because I didn't get home until after 6, I didn't go back to the gym (because "The Bachelor" was on tonight and I wanted to watch that!).
Okay... not much else to write, I need to go take the pups for another walk before going to bed.

Aloha!

I'm so glad that the weekend isn't over!

Bruno
Peanut

So...

This morning I got up and finished cleaning up my apartment... I'm amazed at how messy it can get in a week, although Peanut sheds quite a bit, so that doesn't help. I swept, dusted & mopped the living room, dining room & kitchen, I also did some laundry and washed the pillow covers on my couch, along with rugs and things like that. I also colored my hair today, maybe I'll go get a haircut tomorrow?

Guy & Nikki came up about noon. We had a wonderful dinner, the meatloaf turned out delicious and we had plenty of food. I made baked potatoes and corn to go along with the meatloaf. I still had chocolate cookie dough left over from last week, so I used up the rest of the dough and made cookies for our desert.

I watched football off and on today, I saw the Saints beat the Cardinals, and I watched the New York Jets come back to beat the San Diego Chargers. (YEA!). Nikki & I took the pups down to the park and let Guy catch a nap. (We usually do that on Sunday afternoons).

Tonight I've just been "chilling" doing some web surfing (and playing "Bejeweled") and watching some TV.

I'm going to sign off because I don't want to be up TOO late tonight... I have a lot of things I want to do tomorrow. I need to pick up a birthday card for my oldest daughter and get it into the mail, then I need to get a letter into the mail for my friend Michelle (a school reference letter and a letter that came to my place for her). I would like to go get my nails done tomorrow and possibly a haircut... and then I am hoping I can go spend some quality time at the beach. I hope the weather is nice tomorrow.

Aloha!

Sunset over the Apartment complex

I had to take this picture tonight, the sky was a pretty red/pink over the hills behind the apartment complex, just thought I would share the pic.
I did make it to the beach today, and other than being noisy, it was a beautiful day to be there. I put my Ipod on and relaxed on the beach. I may go on Monday again (since I get the day off), but you can be sure I'll look for a quieter beach (even Ala Moana is quieter!). It didn't help that some young girls came over near me (about 5') away and were laughing and screaming. I just about told them to go take a hike. Then there were some guys throwing a football (middle aged guys) and I just about got hit by it! GRRRR!
This morning I cleaned up most of my apartment. I did the kitchen, bedroom & bathroom (even pulled the stuff out from under the bed and dusted under there!). Tomorrow will be the living room and dining area. I just need to dust, sweep, and mop. But, Peanut sheds so much hair, that if I want to have it clean tomorrow, I might as well wait until tomorrow to clean any more.
Tomorrow Guy & Nikki are coming over for dinner. I called Barb & Bob, but Barb is still recovering from a cold, so thought she should wait until next week to come over. It sounds like she may have a sinus infection, she said she is having a lot of "drainage" and coughing. She should be better next week. SO... I'm going to make meatloaf, baked potatoes and corn for dinner tomorrow. I'll make the rouladen next week. Dang, that meat sure is expensive. I bought 12 pieces (thinking that would allow extras for leftovers) and it was over $18! Oh well... I'll enjoy it (and I'm sure everyone else will as well).
Okay... I'm going to sign off... Peanut is pestering me to take her out for their nightly walk.
Aloha!

Yea! It's Friday!

Oh, I am SO glad that it is Friday once more! I am SO looking forward to having this weekend off! I need it right now. Work went fine, the morning was busy with meetings, this afternoon I met with two new clients and had a brief meeting with my supervisor (well... maybe not so brief!). I went and did some grocery shopping after work. I am trying to decide between having meatloaf & baked potatoes for company dinner on Sunday or Rouladens. I need to remember to go pick up the rouladen meat tomorrow (I had to put in a special order for it today).

I'm trying to figure out whether to buy a ticket to the Beachboys concert tomorrow. The tickets go on sale tomorrow, the concert is February 13th. I don't even know how much they will charge for them yet. I hope they aren't TOO unreasonable. I guess I will see what time I get up tomorrow morning and make the decision then.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Aloha!

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Huh?

So... first - today went fine at work. This morning wasn't as busy as this afternoon, so I got a little bit of a break there. Tomorrow there are meetings all morning and then the afternoon I have an hour meeting with my supervisor and then will be meeting with a couple clients.

After work I made it to the gym, I did a half hour on the Elliptic machine and then 15 minutes on the recumbant bike before going to sit in the jacuzzi for about a half hour.

I did get some preliminary information about the x-ray that I had done on my foot yesterday. I'll have to wait to see what my doc says about it. Here's the narrative part:

FINDINGS: Routine views of the foot reveal no dislocation, arthritis or inflammatory change. Joint spaces are preserved. There is a suggestion of cortical irregularity at the fifth proximal phalanx seen only on the lateral view which may represent a fracture. There is no obvious soft tissue swelling.

CONCLUSION: Questionable cortical irregularity seen on the lateral view of the proximal phalanx of the little toe may represent acute injury. Query point tenderness.

The radiologist had a previous xray from a few years ago to use as a comparison.

So... I don't know what my doc will recommend. If I have a fracture, I sure don't know when I got it. All I know that my foot has been hurting for almost a month now. It's hard to describe where the pain is... it is on the outside of my left foot, along the bottom edge, just forward of my ankle. I knew it didn't feel like plantar fasciitis, because I have had that before (and I've had a heel spur on that foot too), but didn't really know what to expect or if the xray would show anything at all. I just hope it gets better. I don't want it to interfere with my Great Aloha Run in February.

My knees continue to bother me a lot, I really notice it when I am going up or down stairs.

So... I'm going to the gym... and I need to get on some kind of a weight loss program or something. (I am hoping I can somewhat maintain my calorie intake as long as I increase my exercising).

Speaking of exercising, it is time to go walk the dogs before I head to bed. I watched "The Mentalist" after I got home and now it's almost 10:30pm. Ugh!

4th day at the gym

I guess after exercising, I kind of feel like this turtle does... can I just go lay on a beach somewhere now? *smiles*

Today was so-so, not overly busy, but not a lot of free time either. I left early for a doctor's appointment. It was just a routine appointment, but I also mentioned a spot on my left foot that has been sore, just below the outside ankle area towards the toes. So the doc went ahead and ordered xrays to check it out. It's probably some ligament in there, or just my arthritis acting up down there. (that was the foot I had surgery on about 10 years ago).

Tonight I got to watch "American Idol" for the first time. It's been conflicting with other shows I like to watch ("The Bachelor" and "The Biggest Loser.).

Not much else to write about today so I'll sign off.

Aloha!

Busy day...

A view of Ala Moana beach.

The pictures I've posted the last couple days and probably will continue to post, are pictures that I have on my 12" electronic picture frame.

So... today was amazingly busy! I pretty much kept up with the online documentation along the way so I didn't have it to do at the end of the day. I had one client that was upset over something that is beyond their control... I mean REALLY upset. As I attempted to calm them down, it was another one of those emotionally draining experiences for me. It takes a lot of energy sometimes to do the emotional investment into the clients that is needed.

Today was the 3rd day I made it to the gym (24 hour fitness). I did 45 minutes on the Elliptic machine. I did watch some national news, but I was disappointed to find out that they don't have any local channels on their TVs on the exercise equipment that have TVs on them. Darn it! I like to go watch the local news while I work out.

Tomorrow I get off early and need to go get my "annual" exam. Hopefully that means I will make it to the gym earlier and I can get home earlier. *smiles*

Okay... time to sign off!

Aloha!

Another long day at work

This morning started off slow, but then I had two walk-ins and a regular appointment this morning and then sat in a meeting all afternoon. At the end of the day I had to do a risk assessment on a new client, it was about the time I should have been leaving, so I stayed and met with the client and then had to do all the documentation for it. I had hoped to be at the gym by 6, but didn't leave work until 5:50pm and didn't make it to the gym until 6:30 or so.

I ended up only exercising for about a half hour. Hopefully I will get off earlier tomorrow night!

Tonight I've been watching "The Bachelor." Soon it will be time to go to bed. So, I'll sign off for now...

Aloha!

Another weekend over...

Gosh... is this another weekend already over? At least I get three day weekends for the next two weeks. Next Monday (the 18th) is a holiday (Martin Luther King Day). And then the following Monday (the 25th), I have to stay home so that maintenance can come clean out my dryer vents. I'm taking a "comp" day.
This month is really going fast!
This morning I cleaned up around the apartment and then made some crab dip for our snack before dinner and made chocolate chip cookies for desert. Both turned out delicious. We had barbeque chicken for dinner and Quinoa (pronounced Keen-wa). Quinoa has a light, fluffy texture when cooked with a slight nutty flavor and is an alternative to white rice or couscous. I personally think it is rather flavorless. I did add garlic powder & onion powder, but couldn't really tell. I still need to come up with a good recipe for it. Quinoa is a good source of protein.
I also talked to Bette this morning, they will be here in a couple weeks (yea!). I'm looking foward to seeing them. Nikki & Guy made it over for the afternoon. No sight of Barb & Bob, I kind of expected to hear from them and that they would come over today... but didn't hear from them.
After Guy & Nikki left, I laid down for about an hour and then went over to 24 hour fitness (the new one is about 5.5 miles from where I live). I didn't want to overdo the exercising, but did want to exercise. I did 30 minutes on the Eliptic machine, about 15 minutes on the recumbant bike and then did about 15 minutes of strengthening exercises. I plan to stop there on my way home from work tomorrow. I'd really like to be there in time to watch the 6 o'clock news while I exercise, then be home in time for "The Bachelor" tomorrow night, I think it comes on at 7pm here.
Okay, time to think about getting ready for tomorrow & for bed. It's just after 9 and I'd like to be IN bed ASLEEP by 10pm. The pups tend to wake me up by about 5:30 or so. (Ugh!).
Aloha!

Cloudy day in Hawaii Nei

Well, I didn't make it to the beach today. I had to run down to the post office and mail off some Hawaiian calendars (the ones with photos I've taken, they came out REALLY good this year). I have a friend out in PA that wanted to buy 2 wall calendars & 2 desk calendars, so I got those mailed off. (BTW, if you know anyone that wants to buy any, I still have plenty left, $12 for the wall, $7 for the desk calendars).

This afternoon, since it wasn't beach weather, I decided to go to the movies. I was trying to decide between "Avatar", "It's Complicated" and "Leap Year." I went with "It's Complicated." (With Steve Martin, Meryl Streep and Alex Baldwin). It was okay, funny in parts, but so-so in others.

Then, the YMCA was having an open house so I went over to the one in Waipahu, thought I would check it out. I can't believe how expensive they have gotten! For about $10 more a month I could join 24 hour fitness! They've opened a 24 hour fitness closer to where I live (within 5 miles or so), it's brand new, so in really good shape with all new equipment. I went ahead and bought the month-to-month" membership to see how I like it for awhile. The one gym I normally like to go to is still closed, so thought I would try this. I need to get into shape for the Great Aloha Run next month! It's 8.2 miles and there's only been one year that I have missed it since I've lived here and that was because I wasn't thinking and scheduled an off-island trip over to Kauai (that's the time I went with Janis, where we went all over the island... swam in Queen's bath, and hiked part of the Kolaulau trail, the next time I went to Kauai was to be with her while she passed away from cancer).

Anyway... I plan to start going to the 24 hour fitness tomorrow (after my company leaves). I have the snowbirds coming over for a barbeque. I know Guy & Nikki will be coming, but I haven't heard anything from Barb & Bob. They were supposed to have gotten on island this past Wednesday, I talked to them a couple weeks ago, thought I would have heard from them. Maybe tomorrow morning? Maybe they are still getting adjusted here.

Tonight I've just been watching TV, surfing the web and playing with the dogs. Not too terribly exciting of a life here. *smiles*

Time to sign off.

Aloha!
- Kris

P.S. I went to bed right about 8pm last night and didn't get up til 8am, I needed that rest (of course... that's minus a 4am wake-up to take the dogs out for a few minutes).

Tired day...

I thought I'd post a couple pictures from the Elton John concert the other day.
Work was all about meetings today, starting at 8am and with two short breaks, finished just after 4. I stayed at work until almost 6, doing paperwork and touching base with some of my co-workers who were still there.
I've been VERY tired all day. It might be one of the meds that my doc gave me to help with my arthritis. I think I'm going to go to bed soon (it's only 7:30 or so).
Hope all is well where you are!

Time for bed...

Aloha...
I'm tired and going to head to bed soon.

Work was busy this morning and again, the afternoon flew by before I knew it! One of my favorite clients came in today and had some relationship issues going on, they were in tears and we had an emotionally draining session. (at least it was emotionally draining for me).
My middle daughter got some good news. She has an "on-campus" interview with Whitman College in Walla, Walla, WA. She is SO excited! So, now she has three on-campus interviews. She's VERY happy! And then she got her fellowship check in the mail, so she has money once again. (Whew! what a relief!).
Not much else is going on. So, I'll sign off. I'm still recovering from last night's concert.

Aloha!
- Kris

Wow! Great concert!

Wanna come play in the ocean with me???
So... tonight I went to the Elton John concert. It wasn't cheap, I think my ticket was $157 BEFORE service charges (which was probably about another $20). It was SO worth it though! (And yes, I also got a Tee shirt!). Just before the concert was to start, a small group of about 20 people came out from back stage, I don't know who they ALL were, but among them were Ozzie Osborne, Sharon Osborne and their daughter. There were whispers and titters about who some of the others might be... but darned if *I* knew. I was just thrilled to see Sharon! I really like her personality on "America's Got Talent." She's a little shorter than I had thought, I would have loved the chance to actually have met her. I had good seats at the concert, about 18 rows back and 8 rows up on the bleachers seats. Good visability (and the Osbornes were in a direct line of sight towards where Elton John sat on the stage & played). I had two cameras with me... but guess what! They BOTH ran out of battery! I *knew* I should have charged one or both today! GRRRR! I did get some pictures, I'll have to charge the batteries and then download the pics to see how they came out.

Work-wise, I had a busy morning and I don't know where the afternoon went, but it sure went by fast! It doesn't help when we are tasked to come up with information about our clients and have it needed ASAP! I had two projects like that this morning. So, I took a late lunch. That probably made the afternoon go by faster.

I'm going to be one tired pup tomorrow! It's 12:30am (but I *had* to blog... because a *certain* someone would miss it! Huh Bette! *smiles*). So... I'll sign off and think about going to bed soon!

Aloha!

More Air Force One pictures

I bought some additional photo (online) space so I could post more pictures. YEA! So, I thought I would start with some additional Air Force One pictures! Looks like a nice plane, eh?
Work today was busy, I think I saw 6 clients today. One of my client has had a couple losses just within this past week, so they have been dealing with some grief issues.
My middle daughter called, she got another call for an on-campus interview (that's one step closer to getting a job). This college is in Iowa. She's happy about that. Although when I looked at the temperatures in the two towns that are possibilities right now, Iowa was 12 degrees above & New Brunswick was 32 degrees above. I kind of would have expected the temps to be the other way around. She had thought she wouldn't get a call-back for an on-campus interview for another week or two. She's still waiting to hear from one more campus in particular. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Tonight I've been watching "The Biggest Loser" on TV. Today I've done good with my New Year's goals. I've had plenty of calcium today. I made my Protein drink this morning with milk (although I have to say, I like it better with water), then I had some viactive this afternoon at work, and tonight, I had a little bit of ice cream (with a small brownie from Sunday) and had three more calcium pills. I need at LEAST this much calcium a day. Iron-wise, I have had three iron pills today. I probably should have tried for a couple more. I'll see how I do before I go to bed. Right now I'm feeling like I cannot eat one more thing. AND... today was another day without soda. I've been taking Crystal lite with me to work yesterday and today. I've been doing good getting my water intake in, that's for sure!
Okay... I'm going to sign off. I need to go take the pups out for a walk before I go to bed (and after I watch the news).
Aloha!

Monday, January 4, 2010

This is me in front of Air Force One Saturday night (AFTER I was swimming at the beach!). The Obamas left last night (Sunday night). I would have liked to go watch them take off, but I needed my rest. I've been tired the last couple days (probably because my sleep schedule got out of whack over the long weekend).

Work went fine today, this morning I just met with one client, and had to do some computer work, but then this afternoon I was in a meeting ALL afternoon! Ugh! While meetings are important (especially THESE meetings)... sitting there for 3 1/2 hours is a little much.

After work I did some grocery shopping and then came home, took the pups downstairs, made dinner and I watched "The Bachelor" tonight. It's back on for another season.

Other than that, my middle daughter got some good news, she got an "on-campus" interview from a college. (Way to go Shelli!). It would put her back in a rural snowy area... but who knows she might be happy with that. she's got a lifetime of experience living in a rural snowy area already. *smiles*

Okay... time to sign off. I need to figure out what I am going to wear to work tomorrow and start getting ready for bed.

Aloha!

Okay... a photo...

Well... it let me upload ONE photo (even though I had deleted about 50!). Oh well... maybe tomorrow I can upload more!

After getting up with the pups, I laid back down for a couple hours (and had some interesting dreams, not necessarily good ones though). Then I got up and made some party mix (using up the rest of the cereals).

I straightened up the apartment a little & ran to the store to pick up a few things before Guy & Nikki came over. We had a good afternoon (and a good dinner... steak, parmesan potatoes, baked beans). I used my new "Brownie" pan and made some brownies. The pan is neat, after you put the brownie mix in, you set a divider down into the mix in the pan. The pan has a bottom plate that sits into the pan (think of the pan being like a picture frame, a pan plate sets down into the inside of the pan). When the brownies are down, you lift up the divider, then set the pan on a rack that pushes the inside (where that plate sits) up so you have easy access to ready-cut brownies. Forgive me if I am not explaining it properly. You can see what the brownie pan looks like at www.perfectbrownie.com

Okay... not much else to write about. I'm watching "The Unit" on TV tonight. I was glad to see the New York Jets beat the Cincinatti Bengals (37-0!!).

Aloha!
- Kris

Darn it!

Well...
I was going to post some awesome pictures from today at the beach and pictures I took of Air Force One today at Hickam AFB. Oh well. IF you have facebook and are a friend on there, you can check out those pics.

Not much to write about today. I took it easy this morning (although I did make some Chex party mix) and then I headed to the beach over on Hickam. I saw Air Force One, so stopped for awhile on the way out (on the off chance Pres Obama was leaving then, as there was a LOT of traffic around the plane at the time). I finally headed on out to the beach. I don't go to the one at Hickam very often, but I sure do LOVE the turquoise blue water they have there... and it's neat to watch the planes line up to take off at the end of the Honolulu Airport runway (i.e. United, Hawaiian, JAL, Delta... etc...).

On the way back from the beach I stopped by to check out the status of AF1. It was there and they had a gate open to let traffic off the tarmac... SURELY that must mean that the Pres was on his way soon, right? Nope. I stayed for about 2 hours and then a couple people said he was flying out tomorrow. Oh well. I got some good pictures of the plane, that's probably as close as I will get to meeting Pres Obama & Mrs. Obama. (One of my co-workers got to meet them Dec 15th when he got to go to the White House with his brother... how cool is that?).

This evening I've been fiddling with pictures to put on my 12" Digital photo frame. I just got an 8 gigabyte memory card for it today. I've got 188 pictures on it and have only taken up about a 1/2 gigabyte. Hmmm... maybe I should save the 8G for one of my cameras and use a 2 or 4G for my picture frame? I'll have to think about it. The pictures are all formated and they would remain that way. I'd just need to copy the file onto my computer and then onto another memory card.

Okay, I'm going to sign off... it's almost 1:30am Ugh!

Aloha!

A quiet day

I'm still not able to upload pictures. So... I'll have to wait to post some.

Today was a quiet day. I stayed up until about 3am this morning and then slept in until about 11am (after getting up and letting the pups out for a walk). I watched some football today, I got my Christmas tree & decorations taken down and put away. I also got my laptops (netbook & laptop) hooked up to my wireless printer & my new router. It has improved the speed of my computer system it seems. I literally have a network in my apartment. I can access the desktop and my external hard-drives from my lap top. How cool is that? That means I have access to almost all my photos (at least those taken in the last couple years, the others are on CD's). I did go through and pick out some pictures to put on the new digital picture frame that I got. Now I just have to upload them to the picture frame. It holds 50 pictures, but I can put pictures on a memory card so that it will hold more.

Other than that... not much going on here. I didn't get my apartment cleaned as much as I had wanted... it's been a lazy day!

Aloha & Hau Oli Makahiki Hou!

- Kris

Hau Oli Makahiki Hou!

Happy New Year!

Sorry, no pics for tonight, I've exceeded my photo limit with the Blogger. I've gone through a deleted a bunch of posts (starting with the oldest) but the message says it could take up to 24 hours before I can post pictures again.

I had a full day today. I had a client that was supposed to come in at 8am, (he was told by two different people, with a special emphasis because he blew off an appointment earlier this week). He didn't show. So, I called his boss & they got him in there (about an hour late). Fortunately I didn't have anyone else scheduled this morning. To make a long story shorter... I thought he smelled like he was drinking, so I pulled a random UA on him. Sure enough I found out he had been out drinking until the wee hours of the morning. This is one individual where drinking can be life-threatening, so I'm definitely going to take the situation serious!

I went out to lunch with some of my current co-workers and then several of my old co-workers. It was nice!

After lunch I was to leave about 2:30, but I had a new client coming in this afternoon and the client didn't get there until after 3. SO... by the time I finished the appointment with the client and finished all the paperwork on both clients, it was 5pm! Everyone else was gone by 3pm or so. Oh well, that's how the ball bounces sometimes!

Tonight I went and bought a new router. My old one has been giving me some problems. Then I headed into town, I went to my favorite Chinese restaurant ("Little Village") and then went down to see the Honolulu City Lights. I walked all over and took a bunch of pictures, and then I went over to Guy & Nikki's for a couple hours. They live on a pretty high floor and have a good view of fireworks being shot off in the hills above Makiki.

I left their place a little after 11pm and headed down to Sand Island to watch the Aloha Tower Fireworks. It was nice, I had a front row seat (and less crowded) to all of the fireworks. Next year I need to remember to take my radio with me to listen to the music that is supposed to be synced to the fireworks. It sprinkled a little bit, but I had a sweatshirt jacket on, so I was okay.

It's about 2:30am, I'd best sign off. I also posted some pics from the Honoululu City Lights on Facebook. Hopefully I can post them on my blog tomorrow night. I think I should head to bed now!

HAPPY NEW YEAR... My wish for you is that this coming year will find you healthier, wealthier, happier, wiser, and that it will be full of adventure for you! (And me!).

Aloha!
- Kris
