Thank Goodness its Friday!

Oh what a day... (another one of those!). I got to work this morning to a little bit of chaos. I guess I need to explain a little bit first. Where I work, employees work for different companies (i.e. contractors). One of those contracting companies didn't get their contracts renewed when they were supposed to be renewed. So, apparently this was unknown to some of my co-workers until they came into work this morning and they were told to go home. So, in my particular clinic, where two people (including the immediate supervisor) are on vacation, three had to go home, leaving three clinicians to deal with things. I felt bad for the person who is acting supervisor. While the higher-ups basically said we are here if you need us, their actions didn't match their words. So... it made for a discombulated day! Right now it looks like our co-workers will be able to come back to work on Monday, but this did *not* have to happen. It was frustrating. Needless to say, I didn't get as much done as I had hoped.

Then this afternoon I got an email from an aquaintenance that needs to do a substance abuse assessment on an adolescent next week (something new to her) and was asking me for some advice. So, I did some research to help her and make some recommendations.

I haven't been doing much tonight, I've watched the re-run on the special on the "White House." One of my co-workers had watched it earlier this week and said it was good, so I watched it tonight. Then I've watched the dateline special about the scuba diver that let his wife die while they were diving on the Great Barrier Reef (he actually murdered her).

I haven't heard from my sister's friend that is here on the island. He was supposed to have called me today (and would have called my cell phone and I would have at least seen that he had called). Hopefully I will hear from him tomorrow morning.

I got some GOOD news this morning. My middle daughter is coming over the end of August for a week. I had planned to go up to Spokane for my nephew's wedding, but they have postponed the wedding due to financial issues at this time. So, it looks like I will be missing my annual trip to Spokane for this year, unless I can sneak up there for a long weekend this fall or winter.

When I found out that my daughter was coming, I started exploring things we could do. I kind of wanted to take her to another island. I first thought about going over to the Big Island (where the Volcano is), but then decided to look at Kauai (which is one of the most beautiful of the islands). I was able to make a 2-night reservation for a beach cabin (inexpensive ones, compared to some others). So, she will get to see the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." (Waiamea Canyon). We may end up taking a raft trip around to the Napali Coast, something I've never done for all the times I've been there. I've got some time to plan...

Okay... time to sign off.

Aloha!
- Kris
