Sunday, Sunday...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KORI! (today's my youngest daughter's birthday)

So... it's been an interesting day. I got woke up this morning with a call about someone needing a walker (I'm on-call and that's the kind of thing we deal with)... then later I was dealing with a mother having a baby (long story and I can't go into details here due to confidentiality issues), but it was an on-going thing that carried over from yesterday (there are some legal issues involved and multiple agencies). I ended up going into the hospital to deal with the situation and I'm glad I did, because we were able to resolve the issue a lot easier. Then there was an assault that happened today but for some reason, I wasn't notified until tonight. At least I don't have to go in to deal with it. Hopefully there won't be any more calls tonight. I have to go into work early tomorrow.

Okay... that's it for today...

Lazy Day...

So... I had a lazy day... I didn't get up until about noon, then other than doing some minor chores, I laid on the couch and dozed off and on. I stayed home all day. I did run to the store briefly tonight to get something to make for dinner, and I did have one call this afternoon to deal with. I spent about an hour on the phone for that one. Hopefully it is somewhat resolved. It was a medical legal issue more than anything.
Not much else to write about tonight. Just saying Hello!

wee early in the morning...

It's wee early in the morning... after 4am. I didn't get home til 3:15am. So... let's back up... how did my day go? I stopped on the way to work to pick up some donuts and a couple leis. One of my co-workers got a promotion and another one, that is in another clinic is leaving, so we had her going away luncheon today. I had two new clients today and we had our meeting that prepares us for some reports we have to give next week. So... it was a fairly busy day. I spent a LOT of time with one of the new clients, she has a lot of trust issues.
As you may know... I'm "on-call" this week. So, before I even had a chance to leave work (I was staying a little late), I got a call about a child abuse case. So after multiple calls back and forth, it was determined that regardless whether the local police said the child was safe in the home, we still needed to bring the child in to be checked out at the hospital. I'm glad we did. It was determined that the child was NOT safe in the home and so Child Protective Services stepped in and we got the chidl into a temporary, emergency foster home. Things (once they got rolling) worked pretty smoothly. However, having said that, I was at the hospital from about 8:30pm, until I got home at 3:15. Needless to say, I'm tired & ready to hit the sack. (But I knew Bette wouldn't forgive me if I didn't get on and post! *wink*).

Come swim with me... *smiles*

Work went okay today, it was another one of those days where I wasn't as productive as I probably could have been, but that's okay. I'll survive *smiles* So far there haven't been any calls for tonight (being on-call). Last night I spent about 3 hours dealing with calls. I felt very fortunate that I didn't have any calls after 9pm. I was able to sleep, although when you're on call, I think the tendency is to be hyper-alert, so you don't sleep quite as well.
Not much to write about tonight, so will keep it short.

Please pray for some Army Warrant Officers and their family. There were two (I assume they were Warrant Officers) involved in a helicopter crash at Wheeler Army Air Field. One died instantly and the other died at the hospital. they haven't released the names yet.

Work was busy today and I started my "on-call" after work. It's been a busy night, I've been on the phone more than I've been off, but at least I haven't had to go in to deal with any cases. The hospital social worker was on duty until 8pm. I've talked to her a couple times, it sounds like the ER has been busy. I hope it slows down.

Other than that, I talked to my middle daughter today, it sounds like she may be coming over to see me for a week, the first week of August. It'll be good to see her. I wish all three of my daughters could come over. And I know that my granddaughters would LOVE to come and spend time in the ocean! *smiles*

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

This is a shot of the "Trump Tower" still under construction (behind the Lifeguard stand). Someone had asked me about it a few weeks ago, so thought I'd post a picture here. What doesn't show, is how tall it is compared to the other buildings around it.

So... another busy day. I got into work and one of my co-workers had called in sick, so I had to do the Orientation for group today. Then, in my rush, I had prepared for the wrong session, so I had to scramble after the Orientation to do the correct topic. Whoops! But, group went fine, there were 11 participants and a lot of discussion. I got done with group and got a call from a Pediatrician with concern about a family that I am dealing with, so I had to deal with that, then I got a call from a doctor at an Emergency Clinic about a young toddler with a broken Clavical and was concerned that it might be Child Abuse, so I spent most of my lunch dealing with that. After lunch I had an appointment with a new client. I was supposed to meet with a second client, but we rescheduled for tomorrow morning and I was able to spend the rest of the afternoon doing paperwork.

Tonight I watched some TV and surfed the web. I may have found a connection to an old friend. I had her daughter & son's name and googled them and found a "Facebook" for them. So, I emailed her daughter (who I believe is her daughter) and hopefully I will get an update about my friend (and find out she's still alive (she's older than me)).

And good news... I FOUND my work badge. Silly me... I had hidden it before I went on my vacation in case someone broke into my apartment while I was gone. I hid it too good and couldn't find it. I guess I needed my youngest daughter to help me. Whenever I would lose something while my girls were growing up, I could generally count on my youngest daughter to find it. I would call her my "ferret." *smiles* Anyway... I found it stuck in a corner of the closet in my spare bedroom in the purse I had used before going on my vacation. If I hadn't found it by tonight, I would have had to go get a new badge tomorrow, because I start my "on-call" tomorrow. So... the next week will be a tiring one.
Okay... time to sign off and head to bed.

Thank you to all the Vets!

Pictures of Fort Derusy Beach in Waikiki...

Floating in the ocean, it's beautiful, huh! *smiles* I thought you'd like this picture of Diamond Head.
So... I relaxed this morning and then this afternoon I went down to Fort DeRusy beach. There's a parking lot where you have to pay, but the cost is reasonable and parking is generally available. Going to Ala Moana was basically out of the question, just because it was so crowded. I decided to head home, instead of staying down to watch the Lantern Ceremony, the traffic would have been crazy!
Tonight I'm just kicking back and watching TV... I'm watching "The Bachelorette."
Time to sign off...

Wet ride...

They have these beautiful lilac colored trees up in the Wahiawa area, they are just beautiful, and I keep thinking I want to take a picture of the flowers from the trees as they lay on the grass.

I *did* go for the motorcycle ride, but about 2/3rds of the way around the island the skies just busted loose and we got drenched! I'm not kidding! We stopped at Ted's Bakery up by Sunset Beach (they make the BEST pies on the island) and I was able to squeeze water out of my socks! (and I was wearing leather boots!). I had some dollar bills in my front pocket and THEY were soaking wet!

Anyway... to back up a little, we left about 9am and one of the first stops was to get gas. Then we stopped by Sandy Beach to see if some of the Meet In folks were out there flying kites, but they weren't there, so I checked their website via my phone and found out they weren't supposed to be there until 3pm. Oh well. Then we stopped over at the Windward Mall and I got a spare key made for my motorcycle. I used to have one, but I don't know what I did with it... so needed another one. I also got a soft Pretzel.... mmmmm! Oh yea and I got a new bluetooth hands-free earpiece for my phone. The City & County are going to make it illegal to use cellphones while driving after the 1st of July (but I can still use the bluetooth).

It was after we left the mall area and headed north that it poured. Do you know that when you are riding along at 35mph, rain HURTS. It stings. Fortunately I had a long sleeved shirt on, but I still could feel it through the shirt. We stopped by Ted's Bakery, by then it had stopped raining and was clearing up. (Thank goodness!).

I came on down to Waikele and then stopped by the "Sports Authority" to sign up for the Honolulu Marathon. I keep signing up (this is the 3rd year I've signed up)... hopefully I'll get to do it THIS year? (It's in December). I got a free tee shirt and a free hat for signing up today (lol... and I just gave away a bunch of tee shirts... good thing!).

Okay...not much else going on. Not sure what I'm doing tomorrow. Maybe barbequeing at Ala Moana?

Time to sign off...

I didn't sleep too well last night, the puppies kept snuggling up against me and waking me up. I do have to say, Bruno has learned how to run up the stairs to my bed really well (I have a little staircase kind of thing next to my bed that I had gotten for Peanut). I had a friend ask if I could give him a ride out to Makaha to pick up a motorcycle he was buying, so I did. I had never been back in here to the Makaha Valley before. I'd seen the apartments (the ones at the base of the mountain) but never knew how to get to them before. The friend of mine ended up getting a good deal on a big Honda (1100cc). It's an older model, from the late 90's. He wants me to go ride with him tomorrow, so I may do that. I haven't been riding my motorcycle as much as I should (primarily because I don't know who to go riding with, and haven't joined the women's riding group that they have on the island, yet). It's been a long time since I've ridden all the way around the island, so I may be doing that tomorrow morning.

This afternoon I went to the Post Office to mail my youngest daughter's birthday present. I sent it in a little box along with a "Coach" coin purse that I had gotten for my granddaughter, but didn't get a chance to give it to her last February when I was up in Spokane when my dear friend Clare was dying. Which reminds me, without looking, I can't remember if I blogged about it last night, but I got home yesterday and had a package waiting for me. It was the "Singing Bowl" of Clare's. This is a Crystal (?) bowl and you hit it with a small rubber mallet and then take the mallet around the outside of the bowl and it creates a tone that gets louder and louder. It's pretty amazing. When Sue had asked me if there was anything I had wanted of Clare's, I said her "singing bowl." It was a nice surprise to get it yesterday. My puppies aren't too sure about the vibrational noise though... Here's a picture of Peanut as I was waiting out in Makaha this morning on my friend with the Motorcycle. I didn't get a good picture of Bruno, otherwise I would have posted it. Peanut is leaning against me as I sit here on the couch, with the laptop on my legs, she had her head on my hands for awhile, and now Bruno is in my lap with his head over my right arm. It's getting to be bedtime for us.

I haven't done much this afternoon... just taking it easy. I laid down for awhile, but as typical, when I try to take a nap, I can't. I think I'm lucky if I take 3 naps a year. Guess I should work on that.

Okay... not much else to write about.

Flower Power...

Hi, I thought I would post some pictures of some tropical flowers that I photographed today... and by the pic just above, you can tell it was a BEAUTIFUL day outside today!

Here's a picture of Peanut & Bruno that I took last week. Bruno looks so tiny and innocent, huh! *smiles*
So... this morning was busy. I met with a co-worker to discuss how we were going to handle group (she offered to sit in and co-facilitate). It was a small group, which was nice. After the group, I went with my supervisor on a quick shopping trip (he needed to buy some coffee for the office), then I came back and put my notes into the computer and talked at length on the phone to another provider about a client (I had permission to do so). Before I knew it, it was time to head down for my doctor's appointment. TMI (too much information) but the "flow" test went fine, I had a VERY full bladder. Everything is healing fine, although he is still unable to determine why I have the one sore spot. He suggested that it may be a stitch that is hitting a nerve. (A stitch under the skin). When the nurse was doing the flow test and had to measure my bladder, I asked that they use the ultrascan to check the area of the sore spot. He found a little pocket, possibly of fluid, but it wasn't a foreign object (which was good). I guess I will just have to deal with the pain (as I have), and hope that it goes away indefinitely. At some point I may talk with my Primary Care Provider about going back on some anti-inflammatory medication.
Other than that, I went and bought a new External Hard-drive. It's a TERRA byte. I wanted it so that I could back up my laptop. I have another External Hard-drive, but I've got it full enough that I don't think I could fully back up this lap top. This evening has been spent doing a disk clean-up and a registry clean up and after I'm done with my blog, I guess I will go ahead and let the back-up run all night (which is probably what it will take).
Okay... I'm going to sign off, it's after 11pm and I'm tired. My eyes are sore and for the last hour or so I've had a hard time keeping my eyes open (but knew a certain someone would wonder about me if I *didn't* blog! Right Bette???) *smiles*

Isn't it Friday yet?

I love flowers... can you tell? I took this picture with my new google phone this morning. I have to say, I'm a little disappointed in the picture taking with the google phone. With my old phone I could zoom, I can't with the Google phone and it seems more difficult to take a moving picture with my google phone. For example, I was trying to take a picture of Bruno, but he wouldn't sit still enough and so each picture came out blury. Also, with my old phone (the Verizon LG Envy), I could lighten or darken pictures.

Work went okay today, it was a typical busy day and I got a new client. I spent a lot of time doing case management today. We all went out to lunch together today, because it's the last day for one of my co-workers (her house was broken into on Tuesday, so she was out yesterday). I had a good lunch, steak and crab... mmm! (only two pieces of King Crab, so not too much).

Not much else went on today. I got an email from Garry & Gaye, they were on the cruise with me and then stayed in Hawaii for about 10 days before taking another cruise ship back to Australia. Apparently they are about 2 days out from Sydney and ran into some VERY rough water and wind. Garry took pictures of waves hitting the 5th deck windows (wow!) and said they had 100 km an hour winds. Wow... glad I'm not on THAT boat!

Okay... time to scoot.

Is it only Wednesday?

For some reason, it has felt like a Friday today. I had a busy day, I met with a client this morning just before my meeting, then met with two more this afternoon. I had something like 12 write-ups to do today on the computer. I also found out I'll be running group on Friday (that's okay, it is the same group I run on Tuesdays, so not too much prep).
Tonight I've just been chillin' and watching TV. I left work about 5:30, so didn't stay too long. I've also been playing with Peanut & Bruno. Both are doing good.
By the way, I know I've been posting pictures of my cruise here on my blog, but Bryan, who was on the same boat for the next leg of the cruise has posted their pictures on the web. He did the cruise around Hawaii and back up to Vancouver, BC. He's got some nice shots of Hawaii and of the ship. Here is the link:
Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Daisy a day...

Just a pic I took of a daisy in New Zealand.

Work was busy today. My day started off with a client that came in with a work-related problem, then I had group, we only had 9 today (yea!). This afternoon I did paperwork and saw another client that is worried about a court hearing they have tomorrow.

So... almost a typical day. Tomorrow I'm involved in a meeting all morning and then my co-workers & I are going out to lunch to say good-bye to our co-worker that is moving to another clinic. She'll be missed. She's fit into our workplace really well.

This is a map of the cruise I will be taking next May.
Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Monday, Monday...

So... I think I've posted enough pictures from my vacation.. here's a picture of a bush that I pass on my way to work. It's pretty, huh!
Work went okay today, it was one of those "not so productive" days. Guess they make me appreciate the more productive day. I worked a little late tonight because I plan to take Friday afternoon off. I have a doctor's appt on Friday at 1:30pm. It's a follow-up to my bladder surgery in February. I still have a spot that hurts, its not the incision, but underneath and to the right about an inch. I think before the doc tries to give me an injection of steroids in the area (as he suggested he might do on my last visit), I'll ask him to do an ultrasound of the spot. The last time I saw him, he thought it might possibly be where they pulled the stitches together underneath on the right side, otherwise, it might be a lymph node. I didn't have hardly any pain while I was on the cruise, but then I was taking anti-inflammatories regularly (until the prescription ran out).
Okay... I'm going to sign off... I've been watching the new "Bachelorette" show. It's almost over.

Hilo Pics...

Thurston Lava Tube... it's a cave type lava tube that you can walk through. It's not too long or too strenuous of a hike to get to it.

Another shot looking into the Thurston Lava tube.
So... how was your Sunday? I was up about 8 this morning and then finished doing some laundry. I also watched some TV. I left about 12:30 to head into town. Right about the time I was leaving home, I noticed at the nearest freeway entrance that there were a bunch of police and it looked like at least one fire truck. (It wasn't at the on ramp that I need to get onto the freeway, it was on an off-ramp). Anyway, come to find out, an 18-wheeler had rolled and killed the driver and a teenager was seriously injured. That's too bad.
This afternoon I went and saw the Broadway play "Mamma Mia" with Sarah. It was good to see her. The show was fantastic, the crew did a great job!
Tonight I went out for a bite (dinner), and I've been watching "Survivor" it is the final show. I've already found out who won, and right now the "reunion" show is on.
I've also been surfing the web looking at places in Italy where I plan to be in less than a year (363 days is when my cruise leaves). I've decided to take my middle daughter. She will be graduating with her PhD in Ancient Philosophy, so it seems an appropriate graduation present, to take her over to where some of the origins of Ancient Philosophy are. I'm sure we will have a lot of planning to do over the next year. (I did find out they have a Hard Rock Cafe in Rome AND Venice... guess I'll be getting a couple more tee shirts, and there's a Harley shop in Rome *smiles*). Anyway... the cruise leaves from Venice, and stops in Croatia, in Ephesus, Turkey, and a couple places in Greece. (Including the place that is thought to have been the City of Atlantis). As I said last night, after seeing "Angels & Demons" I'm looking forward to seeing Rome.
Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Angels & Demons... (and Auckland)

The Sky Tower... it's a LONG way up there!
A park area just outside of Auckland

One of the Harbors in Auckland (see the Sky Tower in the distance?)

Part of the shore line just outside of Auckland (see the Sky Tower in the distance *smile*)

This is the main Harbor area (I think)... and yes, that's the Sky Tower (which is the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere)

Looking North toward Auckland

I don't remember what this building was (sorry), but it had some nice architecture.

Okay... so I know this one is a church... look at all the ornate work that went into building it...

See the pics of the crater below... I think Auckland is all a series of Craters and hills!

The cavity of the crater (not a real big crater...)

Even though the sign said it was a sacred area and to not go down into the crater, obviously someone had... they had names and things spelled out with rocks. It was wet when the tour bus stopped up here (Recognize the Yellow rain jacket I got on Mackinac Island, Bette?)

I think this spot is the highest spot in Auckland...

Another shot of it... if it would have been clear, it would have given a nice panoramic view of the area.

Taken from the Orbit Restaurant in the Sky Tower (the restaurant rotates 360 degrees once an hour.). I had brunch up here with some of the other cruise participants.

Looking down from the Observation deck, they have plexi-glass on part of the floor for those brave enough to walk on them. There's a couple panels about every 20' around. One of the people there was giving others a bad time, telling them that one of them was loose (LOL!). No... none of the panels were loose.

Looking out from the Sky Tower. (Can you imagine jumping from this height? I did!). You can see my jump pictures in an earlier blog.

SO... I spent all day cleaning. I didn't get to the point of vacuuming though, something I need to get done. I can't find one of my work ID's. I *hid* it before I left for my vacation, just in case my apartment was broken into. Well... I did a good job of hiding it... *I* can't even find it. I went through ALL of my drawers in my bedroom, I cleaned out my closet... I have four big bags of clothing to donate now (Michelle, you'd be proud of me... there's probably about 30 tee shirts!) *smiles* My closet looks a lot better now. I also got my main suitcase from my trip, unpacked. I also had a plumber out here, because the people downstairs are saying they have some water damage in their bathroom. Apparently, it's my drain, so it will have to be replaced. (Not my problem, I guess that's one of the advantages of renting).
Tonight I went and saw "Angels & Demons" (the movie). It was really good. Tom Hanks did an awesome job. I thought it followed the book pretty well (although it HAS been awhile since I read the book). It was neat to see, not only for the historical information (and a lot is based on truth), but also for the scenery. It's situated in Rome. More specifically, the Vatican City. For example, you see the Sisteen Chapel. And... maybe by this date next year, I'll be able to post pictures of Rome & the Vatican City. I'm planning to fly into Rome next May, and then spend a few days before & after my next cruise (which leaves from Venice), doing some sight-seeing around Italy. I'm planning to see the Leaning tower of Pisa, for example. So... the movie was ineresting in more than one way to me.
Okay... it's late... time to hit the hay.
