Good Bye & Safe travels to Walt & Bette

This photo was taken up on the North Shore, when I went up there with Walt & Bette. They are flying out tonight to head back to Duluth. I just got off the phone with Bette (after I had started this post). They are at the airport awaiting their flight.

Work went okay today, I only had 11 in my group, but I had a co-facilitator today, so that was nice. I also met with a client this afternoon, talked with two more and then I set up three appointments for tomorrow morning. So... it was a busy day.

After work I dropped off a pair of white jean crop pants to be altered, the back of the waist needed to be taken in. I'll be able to pick them up on Friday after work and I then I really need to get serious about packing.

Okay... time to sign off.

Doc says "Okay!"

I saw my doc today... and basically everything is okay. The best news is that he did an ultrasound and I do *not* have a seroma anymore. (YEA!). He is still unsure what is causing the occasional sharp pain in my right groin area. I told him that I have a little nodule in there, he was able to feel it and said it could be a couple thing... a "Lymph" node, or it could be that under the skin, where they tied the stitching at the end, it could have "puckered." He is pretty confident that it will go away. I tried to describe when the pain occurs (i.e. when I sit down or get up), and he asked me to monitor it a little more to see if I can better describe when it happens. It seems to happen as I said, when sitting down or getting up, but I think it is also when I am bent at the waist (leaning forward while sitting down). He said if I am still having problems with it when I get back from my tour, he could inject some steriods in there to see if that helps. Needless to say, I am definitely hoping it is gone before I get back.

Other than that, I didn't get to work until just before lunch. I stayed until almost 8pm tonight to make up the time. At least my job is flexible so I can do that. I used the time to do documentation and to prepare for my group tomorrow. I get to do the orientation for group too, so it will be a busy morning. I am certainly hoping I don't have 17 people in group tomorrow again! I guess Thursday's group last week only had 7.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

More rainbows

First... a picture of Peanut that I took up in the Dillingham field area (where parts of LOST was filmed). Walt mentioned he hadn't been up there for a long time and since we were up in Haleiwa anyway, thought I would go ahead and take them out there. Today was the last day I will see them until next year (unless somehow we meet up between now and then somehow). They leave on Tuesday to fly back to Duluth, MN.
A rainbow over Haleiwa... We went to see if we could find some turtles... but no luck today.

A rainbow over the ocean... I need to send this to my friend Susanne, she wanted some rainbow pictures over the ocean.
Another rainbow over the ocean picture (taken from a different area).

And this one was taken as I was drivng to take Bette & Walt home in town. This is over the neighborhood where I used to live. I'm going to miss Bette & Walt, I miss doing all the things we used to do together... the nightly sunsets... the trips around the islands... etc.
After I dropped them off & said good-bye, I drove by my old apartment building and saw several of my former neighbors standing outside, talking. There were also a couple cop cars there, visiting the building adjacent to my old building. Some things never change.
Other than that, this morning I went on into the Swap meet and found some relatively inexpensive dresses to take on my cruise. (There are about 4 nights that the passengers are all expected to dress up for). I think I am pretty well set on what I am taking on my cruise. I need to have one pair of pants taken in (white crop pants), but other than that, I need to UNPACK my suitcases so I can RE-pack them. *smiles*
Okay... time to sign off, I've been watching "The Amazing Race" and now I am watching "Celebrity Apprentice." I stayed up late last night after I got home and cleaned up my apartment... did laundry, etc, so I wouldn't have to do it this morning. I'm definitely more of a night person than a morning person.

Time to sign off.

JOURNEY in concert

So... I went to see "Journey" in concert tonight with my friend Carmel. We had a GREAT time. Other than the fact that a couple young ladies in front of me spilled a whole beer on my feet & the floor (where my COACH purse had been sitting!). Fortunately it doesn't seem like the purse got much on it, unlike my feet! I ended up going out to wash off my feet & they brought someone in with a mop to [spread it around] clean it up. Other than that... the concert itself was good (loud, but good).

This afternoon I took Peanut up to a Pet store with me, I needed to get some more pads & some more treats for her, so I have them to take over to the Dog Sitter in another week & a half.
Okay... I'm going to sign off. It's getting late and I want to pick up a little because Walt & Bette will be coming over tomorrow. They are going to come up here and I'm going to take them up to see my newest office. *smiles* Then we will probably head up to the North Shore to see if we can find any turtles.

Car shopping?

So... I had a free ticket to the car show tonight, so I went on down after work. I think of all the cars I saw, the above car is the one that I liked the best. It's a Civic Honda Hybrid. The ticket price (here in Hawaii) was about 25K.
The mileage was good though... 40 in town and 45 on the highway. I'm not really shopping for a car... I'm hoping to keep my current one for a couple more years before I jump into buying another one.

This a nice car... a LOTUS. It was about 60+ thousand.

How about this Ferrari? They didn't even have a price tag on it. There was a Pearl White Audi that was selling for $143K. (Wow!). The most expensive car I saw was a "Bentley" for $222K. Sheesh. I'll stick to the 25K hybrid. The gas mileage on the more expensive cars wasn't all that great either, but I guess if you can afford those kinds of cars, the price of gas doesn't really matter.
Work went okay today, I focused a LOT on paperwork. I got quite a bit done. I need to be caught up on everything before I go on my cruise.
Okay... time to sign off.

whew! A busy week.

It was another busy day, I didn't get half as much done as I had wanted (never do... but at least I have good intentions). I actually did a "home" visit today to make sure a client was doing okay and that her kids were okay (they are, all things considered). I also met with the wife of a client today, I have some concerns about that family, but I *did* enjoy meeting the wife.
I also spent part of the day in a couple teleconference calls and I got to visit the local foodbank. (To pick up food for the client).
Not much else to write about today...

A project...

Sooo... I got an email from my older brother Charlie. His boss' grandson goes to a school in New Mexico and they are doing the postcard experiment to see how many postcards from as many cities as they can. The experiment just started (I saw a PDF of the hand-written letter) and will go until May. SO... I thought I would go ahead and post the address on my blog. The grandson's name is Sage and he is in the 5th grade at the school (so you might write "Sage, 5th grade class" and then the rest of the address). I'll be sending him a post card from here & possibly one from New Zealand.

Work went okay today, another busy day. I found out that another co-worker might be leaving (so she can get a more permanent job). I hate to see her leave, she's been a great addition to our crew.
Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Another busy day at work!

Ala Moana Beach park

Today was a busy day. I did the orientation for group (normally the co-worker that runs the group on Thursday afternoon, does the orientation for both groups (we do the same group, just on different days), on Tuesday mornings, but she is at a training seminar today), and then I did my group. I had *17* people in my group! YIKES! That's a LOT! And I did the group alone (since the co-worker that had been assisting me, is the one that is now no longer working with us). Next week I'll have another co-worker co-facilitating with me. I'm looking forward to that, I *love* co-facilitating with her, she's awesome at doing process groups! SO... having done the group, this afternoon was taken up doing all the documenation for the groups (for the orientation and for group). There were only 5 for orientation (meaning they are knew to the Tues/Thurs group) and fortunately, only one stayed for the group today. (At least one is going to wait until next week to start, one or two are going to start on Thursday and then the other ones needed to talk with their bosses to find out which day would work out best.

Other than that... I have to say... I *do* like my job. Sometimes I look at the areas that I am weak in (work-wise) and let it bother me, but then I remind myself that I am doing the best that I can at this time. I can use the weak areas to motivate me to improve in those areas.

Let's see... on another topic, I found out that the airline I am flying from Sydney to Auckland on, (on April 10th) is supposed to be on strike at that time. YIKES! It's a code-share with United (Air New Zealand), so I'm hoping that United will have some other arrangements made, in case they indeed don't fly (if they strike).

Okay... I'm going to sign off. I'm watching "The Biggest Loser."

Birthday Girl...

This is a picture of some flowers that my middle daughter sent me today for my birthday. I had a good day. I talked to all three of my daughters. My middle daughter called first, then my oldest daughter & oldest granddaughter called, then later in the day I had a voice mail from my youngest granddaughter singing "Happy Birthday" to me, I kept it on my voice mail so I can listen to it several times over the coming days/months. Work was relatively uneventful, I had one of my clients get in trouble this past weekend, so I met with him to discuss what happened.
AND... oh yea... one of my co-workers was let go. She's the one that went to San Antonio with me, and had been assisting me with my group. I guess this position just wasn't a good fit for her. I'm sad it worked out the way it did, she has enough on her plate that she's been dealing with as it is. I helped her carry her belongings out after lunch.

After work I got home and had a bunch of birthday cards. I got my cards from Kati & Taylor (oldest daughter & granddaughter), I got cards from both of my sisters, and one of my younger brothers, and then my friend Bev, that lives out in Lancaster sent me a card. Saturday I got a card from my friend Susan up in Alaska... I feel bad, she's one day younger than I am and I haven't sent her card to her yet. I'm usually REALLY good about that. I'll try to get a card off to her this week. I had to chuckle at her card though, it had a doctor's office "Urology Department" and said something to the effect of "go with the flow" on your birthday. She doesn't know I have spent a lot of quality time at the Urology Department in the past month! LOL! Speaking of which, I emailed my doc today because I'm continuing to have some sharp pain in my right groin area (right upper pelvic area?). It hurts when I go up or down stairs or if I am "straining." I still kind of think that maybe my nerve endings just ended up tied there when they did my surgery, but I'm not sure. I also asked him about my belly button, it looks red inside, kind of like a bruise. I'm scheduled to see him next week, so he'll probably just wait and look at it then.

When I talked to my youngest granddaughter, she was getting ready to eat some trout that she caught at the "Outdoor show" this weekend. Pop-pop had come over to cook it for her. It sounds like she had fun at the Outdoor show, she got to try her hand at shooting a Bow, and also shooting a rifle (I think that's what she said).

I had some friends call and ask if I wanted to go to "Bubba Gump's" for dinner... and who am I to turn down Bubba Gumps?!!! I've gone there several times for my birthday. I enjoyed the clam chowder & the shrimp.

Okay... it's past my bedtime... so I'd better sgn off.

Nice picnic (or... good food, good meat...)

So... some pictures from today's picnic. We had a GREAT time. I ended up bringing some cupcakes from Sam's Club, it was just easier to do. Walt & Bette had a good time. They gave me a bad time about their being the oldest ones there and I kidded them and told them that's the reason I invited them, otherwise *I* would have been the oldest one! LOL! It was a nice day, just a tad windy. I'll post picture of the beach later this week (probably in tomorrow's blog).
After the picnic I brought Walt & Bette home with me, then took them down to the bus stop in Waipahu, so they wouldn't have to wait so long to catch a bus. They were insistent that I not drive them all the way back into Honolulu.
Tonight I'm just watching "The Amazing Race" and I'll watch "Celebrity Apprentice" before I head to bed. I need to fold some clothes before bed time too & figure out what I am wearing to work tomorrow.
So... I'll sign off for today.

Not much going on today... I had a lazy morning (much needed) and then this afternoon I took my cans in for recycling and then took Peanut over to meet the woman that will be caring for her while I'm gone on my cruise. She is a wonderful woman, her husband is a retired geo-physicist. It won't be cheap though... $20 a day, but I know Peanut will get a lot of individual attention and then it will be helpful for Peanut to socialize. She's so afraid of other dogs. So... the couple weeks will do her good. Barbara had 4-5 dogs there today, they all got along and none of them were intimidating (except to Peanut). I really liked a black poodle type one, her name was Maile, and she was very friendly, affection and willing to come sit on your lap and let you scratch her head. She also had a little white one that looked at least part poodle or maybe maltese, there was a terrier, one that looked part peekingese. She said she inherited her own dog from an older couple that passed away, the dog is old too, and deaf. Her dog didn't even get fazed at all when I came in with Peanut. *smiles*
Other than that, I am pretty sure I have a sinus infection. I'm hoping it will go away on its own. But it has me feeling kind of sluggish.

Tomorrow I'm going to a barbeque at Magic Island with the meet-in bunch. There are over 50 people signed up... it will be interesting to see who all shows up. I'm dragging Bette & Walt with me. *smiles*. I am taking a "birthday" cake.
Okay... time to sign off.

I'm glad it's Friday...

It's been a long week, I'm glad to see the end of another week. I had a nice surprise this morning. We had a meeting and at the end, a couple of my co-workers went out and came back in with a LARGE birthday cake for me! It was a "Chantilly" cake. Mmmmmm good! It was a nice surprise, because I thought they were going to do it next week. My birthday is Monday, but a couple of my co-workers are going to be out of the office for three days next week (Monday through Thursday). Other than that, work went okay today, I got all my books onto my bookshelf (I had a friend with a truck come and deliver them for me... aren't friends nice???). By the way, speaking of friends, did I mention I'm going to Journey next week with my friend Carmel? She had emailed me and asked me about going to see Sheryl Crowe, but I won't be back in time, so I suggested we see the Journey concert next weekend. So... that's what we're going to do. Carmel is a friend of Jim's (that had the beach house) and of Janis'.

Tonight I came home and took Peanut to our brand new Petco store. I put her in the cart... I guess it was too much for her, the next thing I knew, she was pooping! YIKES! Fortunately it was right by a "sanitation station" so I was able to clean it up easily, and dispose of it right there. Sheesh!

By the way, I keep forgetting to write something I thought you would get a chuckle from. Remember when my "Seroma" leaked. It happened the day after I had been walking (shhhh... jogging) with Peanut. Well, I read what the intern wrote in my chart when I went into see him after I got the Seroma to slow it's leak. I'll only quote a part of it. Hopefully you'll appreciate the humor as much as I did... it shows the importance of punctuation... "She does recall falling yesterday after walking her dog onto her abdomen, but otherwise no other injuries were sustained." It sounds like I was walking Peanut on my stomach! LOL!

Other than that... no BIG plans for the weekend. Tomorrow late afternoon I'm going to go meet a woman that I hopefully will be watching Peanut while I'm gone (she comes highly recommended). Sunday I'm supposed to go to a Barbeque with the Meet In bunch down at Magic Island. I think I'll invite Walt & Bette and see if they will go with me.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

My office...

Welcome, come on into my office and have a seat. Let's talk for awhile... *smiles*

(I can wash my hands if I want... or brush my teeth in my office... how handy?).

I still have some bare walls... My desk area could use a little sprucing up...

A couple more views of my office. *smiles*
So... this morning they came in and put pictures up... and then we got our new furniture (the blue chairs and the end tables). It would have been nice to have gotten our furniture and THEN had the people come in and put up our pictures. Oh well... at least its done. And it actually came out looking pretty nice. I still need to bring up my books and put them on my bookcase.
Today was busy and I didn't get out until almost 6pm. It was frustrating in some ways as I tried to get in touch with clients and kept running into barriers. GRRRR.
On the upside... in less than 3 months I will be boarding a plane and headed to New Zealand. Did you see that there was an underwater volcano that erupted in the Pacific? I guess it's halfway between Tahiti & New Zealand. From what someone said today, it's still about 500 miles away from where my cruise ship will be sailing. (They also had a fairly large earthquake down in that area too).
Okay... I'm going to sign off for tonight.

"Pau" means "finished" in Hawaiian. I am "pau" with being on call for about 6 months. Last night I got one more call after I did my blog. It was another sexual assault call. So, two out of the three Sexual Assault calls had alcohol involved. All three had just gotten on island within the past couple weeks.
I don't know if I blogged about a young lady I met yesterday. She'd had her fourth miscarriage, although the last one managed to make it about half term and was delivered alive. The baby only lived for less than an hour. Anyway, her last one has been devasting to her and she's dealing with some serious depression. She ended up hospitalized (thank goodness) and I've been able to make arrangements for a co-worker of mine to see her later this week, hopefully it will work out so that my co-worker can be her counselor.
Today was busy. I had to staff a couple cases and then had a busy day with phone calls and paperwork.
I came home after work and took Peanut out to play in the nearby park, she LOVES to run free! Hopefully she will sleep good tonight.
I have a head cold. I feel miserable. I just got done watching "LOST" and will be going to bed soon. I *did* email my doctor today to tell him that I think my seroma is re-developing. I told him what I've been doing (i.e. wearing a back brace backwards to try & keep pressure on my tummy). He said I'm doing all that I can at this point. I have an appointment to see him on the 30th. He said that if it's needed, he will do an ultrasound and see if it's just soft tissue, or if it's fluid. He said he could go ahead and stick a needle in and drain it if needed. (YIKES!!!!). I'm hoping if that is needed that he will go through my bellybutton, I think it's numb.
Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

This was a flower on the bushes in front of where I parked my car this morning, it's about the same color as my car. (I know... it's St. Patrick's day... I should have done something green... but there is green around the flower! *smiles*).
Work was busy today, it always is on the day I have group. I had 10 clients in group. I have a co-worker in the group with me, she doesn't say too much though. I've been told by some of the members that they like my group better than the same one that is held on Thursdays. *smiles* I think we do more talking in our group and the members are able to learn from each other. It's also nice to hear when one of the group members mention that they are using the skills learned in group - at home.
Tonight is my last night on-call. I've already dealt with several phone calls. Hopefully it will be quiet tonight. I just took a pain pill. I haven't taken any in awhile (and now only have 2 left), but I have a pain in my right groin area. It's the same pain I've had before. It's a sharp pain. Most of the time it's okay and tolerable, but maybe because I'm tired (from being on-call and not sleeping as well) and because I think I have a sinus infection (you know that green stuff... [groan], anyway... maybe I'm less able to tolerate the pain or it just seems to be hurting more. I swear they took all my nerve endings down there and tied them together on my right side there. I think it's just part of the healing process (the pain today). I know that scars usually look worse about 2 weeks after surgery, they appear more red... and that's just part of the process. At least there hasn't been any more "leaking." Some days I feel like my "Seroma" is filling back up and other days, I'm not so sure. If it's filling back up, I wish it would go ahead and just drain, so I can empty and make it collapse again. That IS one problem I don't want to be dealing with when I go on my cruise. I want to go and have a nice (uneventful) time and not have to worry about any pain or leakage or complications!
Okay... I got home late from work (I took 3 calls while still in my office working after hours), so I'm going to sign off and try to be asleep by 10pm and pray that I get to sleep all night. I took something for my congestion. I hope it helps.

Busy day at work...

Okay... I thought I'd add a weird photo, it's one that I took a couple years ago of Koi fish that were waiting for some food. Can you imagine trying to feed that many mouths (that's what the "Octo mom" is going to feel like pretty soon! *smiles*

I kept busy today. I had to type up a lot of reports from this weekend. I guess I kind of went overboard on some of the stuff I thought my supervisor might want. Oh well. At least I got my timesheet signed and I got about 5 extra hours of regular hours and then I think about 90 of "stand-by" pay. It should make for a better paycheck next time than I expected (my last payday before my cruise). I only got paid for 72 hours (instead of 80) because I had to take off last Monday when I found out I had the seroma, so altogether I think I worked 13-15 hours on-call... I don't remember. I just remember thinking that I would end up with about 5 extra hours.

This afternoon we had a staff meeting. I *did* see one client today, need to get on the stick and get a few more in this week so I can prepare to staff their cases.

Tonight I've just been surfing cruise sites online. Trying to learn as much as I can before I go. *smiles*.

Okay... time to sign off.

End of another weekend

Well... I was fortunate that I didn't have any calls last night and I've only had a couple today that I was able to deal with from home. (I sent a Victim Advocate in, because I felt her presence was warranted more than mine). I had my friends over, it was a nice afternoon and I walked them back down to the bus stop. I worry about Walt, he's getting winded so easily. Bette said she will make sure he gets into see a doc when they get back home. They leave at the end of the month. I think I have two more weekends with them. Today was my last time to see Guy & Nikki, as they leave on Wednesday. They are talking more & more about just moving over here. That would be nice for them.

Okay... I'm going to keep this short, not much else to write about.

"Pi Day"

So... my middle daughter reminded me today that it was "Pi" day. (3.14). She is having friends over tonight to have pies, I guess everyone (or couple) are bringing a different flavor of pie to share.

The photos above were taken this afternoon at Ala Moana Beach park. I thought you might enjoy these Diamond Head photos! *smiles*

Well, I predicted correctly about last night. I got a call about 6:30 or so, and had to go into the hospital in response to a DV incident. I didn't get home til after 1am. After checking my email, I laid down and got another call about an hour later (2am) requesting me to come in on a possible sexual assault case. So... I got dressed & went back in. I was there until about 4:30am. I came home and laid down for awhile, but then got a call about 11am. That one was easier, it was something I could handle over the phone. I also got a call about 1pm today, but that was one where I just needed to take down a report. It's been quiet since then (knock on wood). And my other boss didn't bring the other phone (thankfully I didn't have it last night), so either he's been able to field the calls okay and decided not to pass it on. He was going to bring it to me today, when his son had soccer practice, but this morning it poured buckets! I'm sure they didn't have any practice today!
This afternoon I went in & mailed the Ipod Touch back and now will await my refund (again, it's being handled through Paypal, so it should be okay). Afterwards, I went on into town & stopped by Ala Moana to take some pictures (above), and then I went & visited with Walt & Bette, Guy & Nikki. It was good to see them and they were surprised to see me. Guy & Nikki will be flying out this Wednesday to head back to St. Louis. They sure would love to move here. *smiles*
Okay... I'm going to sign off. It's about 8:30 and I'm hoping to go to bed in about an hour and will pray for a quiet night.

Friday the 13th!

This is a rainbow picture that I took yesterday. It's on the mountain side of the road I travel daily.
This is a rainbow I saw on my way home from work today. There are some hills in the distance (towards the Mililani area).

So... what does it mean when it's Friday the 13th and the moon is still full? I'm hoping that doesn't result in a busier evening/weekend on call. I thought I was going to have a busier night tonight than what is/was already possible, because I was asked to carry a 2nd phone to do some crisis intervention on, as needed/expected over the weekend, but my head boss decided to keep it tonight and will give it to me tomorrow. I'll have it for the rest of the weekend, then will pass it on Monday. At least I found out that for any time that I am actually ON the phone, or if I have to respond in to the hospital, I will get paid at my hourly rate, rather than the regular flat rate. (YEA!).
Work went okay today, although I didn't feel very productive & I was pretty tired. I think the anticipation that the phone could ring at any time has me sleeping lighter than normal and waking easily. I'm sure that by the time next Weds rolls around I'll sleep good! No plans for the weekend, other than going to the airport Post Office to mail the Ipod back to the guy that sent it to me (the Ipod Touch) that didn't work. I'll get a full refund from PayPal. (Thankfully!).
Other than that, I woke up and the thermometer said it was 63 degrees out. I think that my Indoor/Outdoor thermometer isn't accurate, as the weatherman said that the lows here on the island were between 53-59 degrees (and I live 1/2 between those two locations). Often times when I wake up, I look up at the time projected on the ceiling and it also gives the temperature. So, I look at it throughout the night (just not in the morning). Anyway... whether it's 53 or 63, that's pretty darn cool for Hawaii! BRRR! It just reminds me that summer is around the corner.
Okay... let's see, what else? Did I mention that I bought tickets for the Journey concert. Not 100% I'm going, but I got 2 great tickets (for the regular sale price instead of the scalped prices that are out there). Sheryl Crowe will be here in concert the night before I get back from my cruise (I *would* go to her concert) and then "Cheech & Chong" are due to be here in concert in the near future as well.
Okay... time to sign off.

Thursday, March 12, 2009

I left my purse in my car & don't feel like going back down to get it. I took some pictures of rainbows this morning, guess I will post them tomorrow night.

I only had one call last night, a medical social work issue. I spent about a 1/2 hour on the phone, so not too bad, knock on wood.

Today went fast at work. I spent about 2 hours with one client this morning and then met with one of my favorites this afternoon. I'm going to miss the one from this afternoon when they leave, probably sometime this summer.

After work I did a little bit of grocery shopping. I had to make several trips to my car, since I can't carry more than about 10 pounds at a time. Peanut was amped up when I got home & wanted a LOT of attention today. *smiles*

Okay... I'm going to sign off and head to bed soon.

On call...

So... while my siblings are dealing with frigid temperatures in Spokane, we have had a nice day today, I took this when I got home. I should have taken it as soon as I got home, but got distracted by Peanut. As I was coming down the hill into Kunia, it was such a beautiful view looking over to Diamond Head, Waikiki looked like a picture perfect day.

Work went okay, I spent most of the day in training (on the computer & a 2-hour group training). I think I've got all my training done for this year, (except for a one-hour on March 17th). Hopefully I will get back on track tomorrow. I'm on call starting today for a week. I'm nervous because it's my first time being on call for this clinic and I am worried I won't know how to respond to a situation. I guess there's not really a good way to prepare other than to just deal with the calls when they come. My co-worker that had on-call last week only had to go in one time.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Another day...

One more day at work, one more day closer to my cruise. *smiles*

Work went okay, I had group this morning, this afternoon I focused on documentation & had a meeting with my supervisor to go over "on-call" duty requirements. I'll be on call tomorrow afternoon for a week. I'm feeling a little apprehensive knowing that I could get called out in the middle of the night several times. I wish I had another week or two of recovery under my belt, because right now I still need all the rest I can get. This afternoon I started feeling rather "junk", just one of those "blah" feelings where you feel achy. I'm not running a temp (I checked), maybe it was just from wearing the binder thing all day. I wore it all night and woke up with a back-ache. I've got it off right now, giving myself a break. No more leaks so far, so that's good.

Okay, I'm going to sign off, I'm watching "The Biggest Loser." *smiles*

hrmph! (And TMI)

A Waianae Beach...

SO... this morning I got up, I was a little tired because I stayed up too late watching TV last night. (well, I was in bed before 10:30). As I was sitting on the "pot" to do my business, I noticed my nightshirt was wet. Well... to make a long story shorter... my belly button had developed a leak. I had noticed over the past couple days that my lower belly seemed swollen, bloated. Now I know that I had developed what they call a Seroma. In some ways I am probably VERY lucky that the serous fluid was able to leak out of my belly button. After saturating a bunch of gauze & pads, I finally got smart and used my toilet cap (that would normally be used to measure urine output), and ended up draining about another cup before it eased up a little. After going through a couple more dressings, I headed to the nearest acute care clinic, instead of going into where my doc was located (because of rush hour traffic, it would have taken 3x as long to get to him). I didn't feel faint, I wasn't in any pain, but felt it should be checked out. I didn't think it was anything *really* critical, but needed a doc's opinion. I have to say, while the staff at the acute clinic were nice, I didn't find them too competent. I kept trying to contact my doctor's office, got a call back and found out he was in surgery. At that point, I decided my best best was to get my belly packed real good so that it wouldn't ruin my clothes too much on the way down to my doc's office... so the medic came in and gave me the supplies to do it (and thankfully a student nurse offered to be a second pair of hands).

I stopped by where I work (before & after) to let them know what was going on and drove down to my doc's office. I got in and saw a resident first, and he gave me a UA cup to continue to drain my belly button until the doc came in. I had brought all my "evidence" with me and my doc told me it was a "seroma" (you can look it up online), and that I had done just what I needed to do by draining as much as I could this morning. He sent me home and encouraged me to continue to drain it as much as it will drain, and then to keep pressure on the area, in hopes that the Seroma will collapse (it should eventually anyway). The good news is that there's not infection and the leak is probably coming from the best place possible.

He *did* say it was NOT related to my fall yesterday. Thank goodness for that.

So... I've been laying on my couch all afternoon and this afternoon, with a book and 3 3-pound weights on top of my belly to encourage the swelling to stay down.

I'm not in any more pain than normal. I haven't had any more drain out this afternoon/evening. If I wake up with a repeat, I'll deal with it and then go into work (reassured after having visited my doc today).

So... that's MY exciting news for the day. What a weird complication from my surgery, eh? *smiles*

Okay... time to sign off.

First, I thought I would share a couple pictures I took out my bathroom window just a little bit ago. You can see Diamond Head off in the distance (for a better view, if you click on the picture, it will open up full view... or should). It was beautiful to see the sunset reflecting off of the buildings, it almost looked like they were lit up.
I slept in this morning, then got up and cleaned up around the apartment in preparation for my visitors. It was nice not having to cook. Nikki made some awesome chili & brought it over. It wasn't spicy at all. We just heated it when they got here. It was SOOO good. In fact, I just had some for dinner.
The "STOOOOPID" header... I called to find out that my visitors (G&N, W&B) were down at the Park & Ride and headed up to the apartment. So, I waited a few minutes before taking Peanut out for a walk to meet them about half way. Well... I could see them as I came around the corner from the apartment complex and walked Peanut a little bit of the way, then decided to jog a little bit because Peanut had spotted them and was wanting to get to them. Well, I fell. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like I've hurt my incision site, or where I had surgery. I landed on my right knee (at least it wasn't my "bad" knee... the worse of the two) and I landed on both heels of my hand, scuffing up my hands and knees. Nothing bled (thank goodness) and my pride was probably insulted more than anything (and realizing how stupid it was to try & run period! At this time, and even more so to try and run with my crocs on). Interestingly, besides my knee hurting still, what hurts the most is just under my left ribs, I don't know if I pulled a muscle or what. It still hurts tonight. GRRRR. I'm sure it will heal... but not something I needed to be dealing with at this time, I've got enough healing to be doing.
Other than that... I *did* have a nice visit with my friends (Guy & Nikki saw me fall, Walt & Bette were behind them and missed it, *smiles*). Tonight I'm just resting in my chair and watching "The Amazing Race." I'm not ready to go back to work tomorrow, but it shouldn't be too busy of a day. I think I only have one appointment scheduled, but I have some paperwork to catch up on.
Guess I'll sign off.

Short post.

I'm actually up way too late (almost 2am), but will set it so it posts as Saturday. I tried to put a cruise countdown clock on my blog earlier today, but it didn't work for some reason. I'm down to 34 days until I sail. And I'll be spending Easter in Auckland this year. (just realized that). I've spent most of the afternoon/evening reading a cruise blog for those going on my cruise. Found out that my ship is having some problems and that the March 15th cruise has been cancelled and the ship will be going back to Brisbane, Australia to be in dry dock to fix some propulsion problems. Hopefully all will be fixed before I have to take MY cruise! Fortunately, I did buy the trip insurance.

Today was uneventful, I went & got my nails done, then went to Macy's (I had two gift cards, one for $10, the other for $81 (because of $ I spent at Christmas time). So, I bought some clothes to take on my cruise. Other than that, I went to the grocery store to pick up a couple (light-weight) things. I have Bette, Walt, Guy & Nikki coming over for dinner tomorrow. And then the rest of my time has been on the computer.

So... am signing off now.

Glad it's Friday!

Well, I survived today. We relocated our offices today and are in a newly renovated building. My office is bigger (thank goodness) and I now have a window once more (yea!). I didn't move any heavy stuff, but I did carry a couple bags of stuff up to my new office (I took an elevator rather than try to carry them up the stairs). I have a bookcase once again, so I can take my books into my office, and I have an extra file cabinet that will provide some good storage. When I get my pictures hung, I'll go ahead and post a couple pictures of it. I may have to post one before & after we get our new furniture which is scheduled to come in on my birthday (in a couple weeks). Right now we are just using our chairs from our old offices (chairs for the clients).

We have some new neighbors on our floor, we have some child psychiatrists, which will come in handy when we need to make a referral. We sure have a LOT of stuf though and a dire lack of storage. It'll be interesting to see how things settle down and set in. It was interesting because they put a 42" flat screen TV in our waiting room and in our small staff lounge, then in the group room, they are putting a 60" (!) flat screen. That will come in handy for some meetings that we hold a couple times a month... hopefully they will get it hooked up to a computer and we could possibly even do distance conferences and things like that. One area that we are going to hurt is the lack of storage space, we have a VERY small storage room. I'm sure things will work out.

Okay... I'm going to sign off... time to a pain pill and think about going to bed soon. We are supposed to have a rainy weekend, so tomorrow morning I'm going to get my nails done, not sure what else I'll do.

Packing day...

Kaneohe from Kaneohe Bay. (it was starting to cloud up by the time this pic was taken).

So... today was spent packing up my office, I tried not to lift anything too heavy and definitely didn't lift any boxes. I didn't move all my books into my TINY office, so I didn't have to worry about packing those up. I only had 2 big boxes, and then I have several re-usable bags that I put some of the smaller stuff into. We thought we could start moving some of our stuff into our new offices today, but they put the nix on that. So... tomorrow will be a busy day. It looks like I will just stay at my office & answer the phone there (once they get it hooked up), but then I can also deal with any walk-ins that may come in.

Pray for the wife of a client, she had a suicide attempt (by OD). She's going to be okay, but I'm hoping to reach out to her more than I have. She needs the support.

Okay... gotta scoot. It's 8:30pm and I still need to run over to my landlady's house and drop off my rent check. Talk about procrastinating!

Movies & Target

Work was busy today as we spent most of the morning discussing cases. I got to close 2 cases, so I'm happy. I felt like I did too much walking today though and so I took a pain pill on my way HOME from work. Not sure it really helped a whole lot.
I had comitted to going to see a movie tonight with some of my "Meet In" friends (hey... free tickets, can't beat that!). We saw "He's Really Not That Into You." It was kind of cheesy, but funny in parts. Afterwards several of us went over to the Brand new Target store that opened today out there (they also opened one in Honolulu today, the one I went to was out in Kapolei, about 7 miles from where I live). The Target is set up like all the rest, but it was nice to see it while it was still brand new.
It's past my bedtime now. I talked to Bette tonight and then Barb. Barb & Bob fly out tomorrow to head back to Minneapolis. Which reminds me, I forgot to ask for prayers for my friends Jim & KayKay, both are not doing well health-wise. Jim used to live here until he met KayKay & they moved to Alabama. When I went down to Georgia last Labor Day weekend, I drove over and saw them and spent the night with them. Jim sent me an email, apparently he was in the hospital from the end of December until February and due to poor circulation in his legs, he lost circulation to his right foot. They thought they were going to have to cut off his foot, but he *just* ended up losing all of his toes on that foot, so now he's starting to get around with a walker. Yikes. I thank God for my health and Jim thanks God that he didn't lose his whole foot. Please keep Jim & KayKay in your prayers.
Okay... gotta scoot!

This is a picture that my friend Barb took from their apartment in Waikiki (that's Magic Island in the foreground). Barb & Bob will be heading back to Minnesota on Thursday. Barb reminds me a lot of my Aunty Joy (who passed away several years ago). I've enjoyed getting to know her better over the past couple years.

So... what does ICADC stand for? Well, I got my "Internationally Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor" certification in the mail today. Since I wasn't expecting it, it was a nice surprise. I'll be putting it up with my other certificates & diplomas.

Work went well today, it was busy. I had group this morning and was happy when one of the student interns from another section showed up to co-facilitate/sit in on group. I have one of my co-workers that also sat in today, she is the one that went with me to San Antonio (and has had difficulty in the work environment in the past). For as non-aggressive as I am, she is my opposite. We should make an interesting team! My supervisor thought I would be the best match for her, since I get along with her fairly well. I'll miss the student intern, he's been a great addition the past couple weeks. He *has* been a nice compliment and we facilitate well together. He will be graduating in May with his MSW. We lost the other student intern that we have had, she finished up her practicum hours.

Anyway, in addition to group this morning, I met with two of my clients today and then called a couple other ones that I needed to set up appointments with. I have one of my clients that is starting to deal with some depressive symptoms, so with my connections to the clinic that I used to work in, I was able to walk him over and get him set up for a medication assessment for tomorrow morning.

This afternoon I had to do something like 15 notes from the group notes & the individual notes I had to write today (including collateral contacts I had on behalf of one of them and the phone contacts). I didn't leave work until about 6:30pm.

Okay, I'm going to sign off and watch some TV before heading to bed.

Good news...

These photos were taken last week when Guy & Nikki came over (with Walt & Bette). Peanut has known Guy & Nikki the longest and she greets them like she would an old friend... she licks them to death! She does a great sinus wash *snort*.
The good news... is that when I got to work I had an email there from my friend I visited my first night in San Antonio and she found my Ipod in next to the guest bed where I slept the night I was there. YEA!!!! I'd rather have that one, than any other at this point, because it has all my music on it.
Other than that, today went good at work. I only worked until 1, as I had a 2pm appt with the doctor. I got to my worksite & found out that I was supposed to be downtown for department-wide meeting that is held the first Monday of every month. I forgot this was the first monday. (Whoops!). So... I called my boss and he just said to stay there at the office and catch up. So, I had a nice quiet morning at the office, getting caught up and prepared for my group that I am doing tomorrow.
My doctor appt went well, he said everything is progressing as expected. I still have a little more swelling though, and he suggested that when I am laying flat, that I put a dictionary or heavy book on my lap to help reduce the swelling. So... tonight while I sat in my recliner watching "The Bachelor", I had the phone book & my laptop on my lap.
It's time for bed now though, I just took my pain meds (first of the day), so I'd best sign off.

Sunset at the North Shore...

I thought I would share some photos from Sunset on the North Shore today. It was very windy here in Hawaii today, it has been all weekend. I'm feeling a little better each day. I've gone all day without a pain pill today, although I didn't wake up until 11. Sure is going to be hard to wake up tomorrow morning to go to work (which is my plan, unless I wake up and really feel like I just can't do it). I will only work a half day tomorrow because I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon. I could wait and go in Tuesday, but I'm supposed to do group on Tuesday (with a co-worker), and if I want to be prepared for that group Tuesday, I need to go in tomorrow.
This afternoon I went down and got my car washed (finally), I really need to get it detailed though. I'm just trying to save all my $$ for my cruise at this point.
Other than that, I don't know if I mentioned that I bought an Ipod Touch from Ebay a couple weeks ago. It got here and didn't work. The guy I bought it from doesn't want to refund my money, because he said it worked when he sent it (did I mention he just sent it in a padded envelope???). So, since I paid for it through PayPal, they are supposed to guarantee my purchase, I just had to submit a dispute. They have 30 days to deal with it. I guess when I get my money refunded I will use it to just buy a brand new one (locally and not off of Ebay).
Okay... time to sign off. I need to figure out what I want/can wear to work tomorrow.
