Nice Flowers!

I got these flowers delivered today, they are from my oldest daughter & grand-daughter Tay. it was a nicde surprise! They are beautiful & are brightening up my apartment.

I had a nice morning of rest and then went late this afternoon and saw "Marley & Me," it was cute, but I didn't expect the ending. Afterwards, even though my pain pills had worn off, I went and did a little shopping. I needed some things like sponges, bleach, laundry soap, etc. Then I stopped and bought the extended version of "The Lord of the Rings." I need to watch it before I go to New Zealand because when I go to Tauranga, I hope to go up and see where "The Lord of the Rings" was filmed. I've just started watching it.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Windy day in Waipahu...

These are just some flowers near where I live. At least things are green and colorful here... that's one of the nice things about Hawaii, it's year-around beauty!

Today WAS windy here, Oahu had a high wind advisory all day. So, it's been a little cooler here, but still warmer than most of the US! *smiles* I'm still trying to talk my older sister into coming to Hawaii and house-sitting for me while I'm on my cruise. I'll need to know pretty soon, otherwise I need to be making dog-sitting arrangements.

Today went okay, I slept in until about 10:30am, and then got up and took my first shower since Monday morning (I had washed, but no shower...). It felt good to get my hair washed and I feel cleaner with a shower. I replaced my bandages (the ones that protect my clothing from any oozing). Bette, Walt, Guy & Nikki came over a little after noon and we had some chicken (from Sam's Club), some left-over potato salad and some baked beans. It was good. I made some "Turtle Cookie Bars" for desert (THAT was good too!). My company left about 5pm to head back into town (via the bus). It was good to see them. I've gone all day without a nap and so far I'm still holding up okay. I'm still taking it easy. I'm thinking about going to see a movie tomorrow. "Marley & Me" is playing at the local dollar theater and it's a movie I'd like to see. So... I may go. Tonight I had more left-overs for dinner & have just been surfing the web. I made my hotel reservations last night for Auckland. I'm going to stay at the Hilton.

Okay... I'm going to sign off.

Making progress...

I went to the doctor's today, he took my drain tube out and removed some of the bandages from my tummy wound. He said that my "output" is really good and did a scan to make sure I'm emptying my bladder okay (I am). Other than that, I slept off and on all morning and then did a couple light-weight chores before heading in for my apartment.

Not much else to write about today, so will sign off and go take another nap. *smiles*

Not much to write about today...

Not a whole lot to write about today. I went into the doctor's to get my drain tube removed, but I'm still draining too much (we both agreed), so I'm going to go back in tomorrow afternoon and hopefully get it removed. It will depend on how much I am still draining. I also asked for some strong pain medication because the meds I was on, didn't do the trick well enough. I have one spot on my incision that seems to have a 'catch" or something. Hopefully it will get better.

I came home and took a nap with Peanut, then just watched TV tonight after some dinner. My main cable box went out tonight though, so I'll need to get it replaced. Fortunately I still have my other TV & box that work okay. That one is in the bedroom. I'm going to sleep on the couch tonight (or the recliner) because it hurt too much to get out of bed last night (my bed is really high).

Okay... I'm going to sign off, it's 10pm... and the latest dose of pain medication should be kicking in soon.

I'm home!

Just a quick blog to let everyone know I am home from the hospital. The surgery went well, although they had to do a little more cutting than they thought and I'm still oozing from my belly button. I had the option of spending another night in the hoospital, but considering I was in a 4-person room, I felt that I would sleep better at home in my own bed. And of course, Peanut was very excited to see me. I'm keeping a pillow on my lap so that she doesn't jump up and injure me. I've got to go back to the doctor's office tomorrow morning to remove a drain tube and then I have a follow-up appointment next Monday. I haven't decided whether I will work a half day on Monday, or just wait and go in on Tuesday. I'll see how I feel this weekend.

Okay... I'm going to sign off, I took a couple pain pills about a hour ago and they are kicking in. (yea!).

Thanks for all the positive thoughts & prayers!

Out of surgery

This is Michelle, I'm writing for my mom.  My mom got out of surgery this afternoon.  Surgery went OK. It was a little longer than expected.  She's still in the hospital and she'll possibly be discharged tomorrow.

Thanks for any prayers and thoughts that are being sent her way.  She'll probably post a blog entry tomorrow night if she gets home.

Be well!

First... it was a beautiful day in Hawaii Nei! I took this as I walked my friends back down to the bus stop. That's Diamond Head off in the distance.
This was actually after dinner... Guy fell asleep on the couch with Peanut.

Nikki, Barb & Bette at the table, we talked story around the table, while the guys sat outside on the lanai...

Guy, Walt & Bob sitting on the lanai relaxing... Good food, good meat, good company. We barbequed chicken and had some Potato salad to go along with it. I had leftover Salmon from last night & picked up some Whipped Cream cheese, so I made a salmon dip today that I served on crackers as an appetizer... sure was good!
Don't expect a post tomorrow night, or maybe even not Tuesday night. It will depend on how I feel Tuesday, if I am home from the hospital. They don't allow computers at the hospital (that I know of... but I can't take it with me anyway). I'm sure I'll do just fine. I have my middle daughter listed as my emergency contact.
Okay... I'm going to sign off... I'll post again when I can.

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Well, after sleeping in, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning my apartment in preparation for after my surgery (so I won't have to worry about it later). Then I went and took a bunch of cans in for recycling. I brought Peanut with me and then we went to a Pet Store. I bought her a couple little toys, I bought a few more Tetra fish and a new light for my fish tank (which I cleaned today too). Peanut & I stopped to visit with Walt & Bette, then went down to watch sunset. I came home and made some salmon for dinner (I mixed some butter & brown sugar and wiped it over the salmon before broiling it. It was good!).

I'm going to sign off. I need to run down to Walmart and pick up a couple things. I'm having a bunch of my senior citizen friends over for a barbeque tomorrow. (Bette, Walt, Guy, Nikki, Barb & Bob).

Yea! It's Friday!

Well... if I'm able to get up out of bed at the hospital, this will hopefully be the view I will have. (I'm hoping for an ocean view side room).

Work went okay today, most of this morning was spent in a meeting, otherwise I was trying to wrap things up in preparation to be off work for at least a week. The day went by really fast. This morning I got up and made muffins to take into work, they were well received! *smiles*

I found out today that my "show" time at the hospital on Monday is 5:50am (ugh!). I have a friend who has agreed to take me and I'm hoping some other friends show up later in the day to babysit me. *smiles*

Kathi... without disclosing too MUCH information here... I'm having surgery so that when I sneeze, I don't "leak." I think you can figure it out from there. I'm just getting old. LOL! BTW, give Drew a hug for me... I hope he's doing okay!

Okay... time to sign off. I'm watching a repeat of "The Amazing Race." I like watching reality type shows, because I'm a people watcher!

Almost Friday!

SO... another day done... met with a couple clients today (the sessions actually ran a little long) and did a bunch of paperwork. After work I went grocery shopping in preparation for my surgery next week. I won't be able to pick up more than about 10 pounds for about a month. So... I bought a LOT of groceries.

Not much else going, I watched Survivor after I got home.

I survived...

So... yes, I did survive all the pre-op stuff today, I was probed, poked, scanned (EKG) and a few other things. I passed my "CIC" test, although I had to have help... I just couldn't find the "spot" on my own. [blush]. The pre-op clinic took the longest time with a LOT of waiting. I snuck a peek at my labs and they all came back okay. I had a little protein in my urine, but I am wondering if that is just because I had a protein drink this morning. Which reminds me... I can't take any iron for the next week because my doc put me on an antibiotic for the next week (to prevent infection from the CIC thing today).

I didn't get to work until about 2pm, so I stayed until 8pm to make up some of the time (I worked an extra hour yesterday too). I had a teenage kid come in this afternoon to meet with me in regard to an abuse allegation. He was a neat kid and the appointment went well. I stayed late to do all my documentation from the session and to do some other computer work.

Okay... I'm home late so I'm going to sign off.

Dragging today...

Wow... I've been dragging today... I'm still sore from yesterday. I made it through the group okay this morning and I met with one individual this afternoon. He came in very reluctantly, but was in a better mood by the time the session ended.

After work I had to run some errands and tonight I've just been watching the "Biggest Loser." So... not a lot to write about tonight.

It's time to head to bed & tomorrow I have my pre-op and "practice" (ugh!). Guess I might as well get to bed & get the sleep over with so I can get tomorrow over with.

I'm still alive....

In the beginning... at the start of the race, getting together...
Passing the start of the Aloha Tower as we all approach the starting line...

Getting ready to cross the start line with over 20,000 other people over.

I didn't think to take a picture of the 1st mile marker...
Hawaiian 105.1 radio station, proud sponsors of the race (I wore their TEE shirt today in the race).

Under the Freeway on the Nimitz, it sure seemed like there were a LOT more walkers today.

Another mile finished... whew...

And another...

Mile 5, over halfway there (and still on the Nimitz)... at least it's in the shade!
Various school bands play along the way and towards the end of the Nimitz, they always have some Taiko drummers.

Crossing over the freeway... the first glimpse of the stadium off in the distance and we still have 2 and a half miles to go...
Mile number 6....

Mile #7 and just over a mile to go... will my feet make it????

Somehow I missed mile marker #8... but here is the finish line... *smiles* It took me about 2 1/2 hours to get to the finish line, because I didn't cross the starting line until about 20 after 7 (am).

After finishing... I had to sit for awhile and watch others complete their race as well. Today was the 25th Great Aloha Race. And today they had their first death, apparently a man died in the parking lot just after he finished... so he finished his Aloha Race and finished his life.
As I said... I'm still alive. I came home and took a nap... and then about 5 I went down and got my nails done. Tonight I've just been laying on the couch watching "The Bachelor." The news will be coming on soon and then I'll head to bed. I'm wiped out. I'm wondering if I'll lose a toenail again (after doing the race).
Tomorrow I have a group that I am leading and then I have an intake coming in about 2:30 in the afternoon. Not much else going on... Wednesday I spend the morning at the hospital prepping for my surgery (fun)...
Time to sign off...

Kaneohe Sand bar...

So... here's some of the gang up on the beach, I just took this picture with my phone, I left my camera in the car & don't feel like going back down to get it. We had a good time and the weather was cooperative most of the time. Afterwards we wandered around the Marine Base Exchange and then drove through Kailua & Lanikai before heading back to town. I took Peanut out with us today and she did really good. She's exhausted & sleeping on the couch now.

Okay... I'm going to sign off & grab a quick bite to eat before I head to bed. I still need to figure out what I am wearing tomorrow for the Great Aloha Run and put my timing tag on my shoe... that kind of stuff. And I still need to get in for a shower. I did get a little too much sun today, but I'll survive. *smiles*

Tickets bought...

While this picture wasn't taken today, it probably could have been, this is kind of what it looked like today. It was windy outside. I spent a relaxing morning at home and then headed into twon for a bite to eat and then to the Great Aloha Run Expo. It was fun to wander through there.

Afterwards I went over to meet up with Bette & Walt, Guy & Nikki, Bob & Barb. We discussed our boat trip tomorrow (Pontoon Boat ride out to Kaneohe Sand Bar). Barb called later tonight & said that they weren't going to be able to go because Bob's worried that his asthma will act up in the wind on the boat ride. It's been really windy today, I'm hoping it won't be too bad tomorrow afternoon. Walt & Bette's son & girlfriend are here too, and will be going with us out there.

Other than that... I bought my ticket to New Zealand tonight. I've been perusing web fares and the cheapest I could come up with is the one I ended up with for $706. The only downfall is that I fly from Hawaii to San Francisco, then to Sydney (where I'll have about 9 hours on the ground) and then onto Auckland. Now I'll have to figure out a way to take a short tour of Sydney while I'm there. *smiles*

Okay... time to sign off.

Aloha Friday

This is a photo that was taken last year. I haven't taken any pictures this week (although I have a lot from the Pro Bowl... lol).

Work went okay today, just a typical day. Although my boss started to give me three new cases and then realized that's a lot to give to someone in a couple days, so he took one away. So, I had to contact the clients & try to set up appointments with them. At lunchtime, most of us went to lunch together.

After work I did a little grocery shopping, got gas, had to go get some window washer fluid (mine was empty on my car) and then I stopped in Mililani, by the Pet Store & picked up some more treats for Peanut. I think I spent as much on her, as I did on MY food (I got her a new harness & a toy in addition to some treats). I've just been "chillin" since getting home.

Tomorrow I need to get into the Great Aloha Run Expo & pick up my running number for the Run (walk) on Monday. Sunday I'm taking my Senior friends out on the Pontoon Boat... then Monday is the 8.2 mile walk/run. Busy weekend.

Okay... time to sign off.

Long day...

I was so tired today at work, I felt like I was in a daze. I did see two clients today and caught up on my emails. My co-workers were all very supportive today, which I greatly appreciated. This afternoon I had to go get a Mamogram, but while there, I took part in a Suicide Awareness training and then got some lab work done (to check my Phosphate level, it's one of those things they are checking in regard to my high(er) PTH level). I guess I'll know more in a couple days.

Right now I'm just watching the new Survivor show.

Not much else to write about.

Back in Hawaii again...

I'm not going to write a long post. I made it back to Hawaii late this afternoon, and then I drove on into town to see my friends Walt & Bette. I arrived in Spokane about noon on Monday and after going to a drive-in & picking up lunch, I headed up to Holy Family Hospital. I arrived at a very good time. Sue & Bob were there, along with Sherry (Clare had given her up for adoption at birth) & Denny (Clare's step-son, he Herk's son, Herk was Clare's last husband, he passed away 28 years ago). They were there with the minister who was getting ready to go in and say a prayer over Clare. We all stood around her bedside, holding hands as he prayed. Bob had to fly back to Seattle on Monday, then Sherry flew back to Boise yesterday. I stayed at the hospital the whole time, only leaving Clare's hospital room to go downstairs to the cafeteria to get a bite to eat. I did leave briefly last night (Tuesday night) because I needed to get my carry-on suitcase, so I went to nearby Arby's to get a sandwich for dinner and came right back. I hadn't had a shower or changed clothes and needed to. I had waffled on driving out to see my youngest daughter & granddaughter while I was in Spokane, but it seemed so touch & go with Clare, that I didn't want to leave. That, and Clare was dying because she had gotten the MRSA virus (they don't know where she got it). Her MRSA was in her blood (apparently it can attack different parts of the body). Anyway, while we were there (Sue, myself and any visitors), we had to use isolation precautions, we had to wear hospital gowns and gloves. Each time we left the room we had to change in and out of the gowns. Everytime we went to the bathroom (even in her room), we changed our gloves (didn't need to change our gowns). Anyway... I was a little worried about exposing Kori & Kiara to any potential virus. Using the precautions we did, I shouldn't have gotten it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. After I took a shower in Clare's bathroom (at the hospital) last night, I put all the clothes I had been wearing into a plastic bag and they are now in the wash.

I didn't sleep much while I was there. I slept on a recliner in Clare's room. What made it difficult was that at any time, I expected that breath, to be her last breath. She had severe apnea (I don't know if she always had), but I found myself overnight, watching and counting her breaths. The longest I counted that she stopped breathing (Monday night) was 80 seconds. Most often, she would have 3-4 deep breaths and then stop for 3-45 seconds. It was a hard to sleep though through this. So, my two nights at the hospital were spent just dozing briefly off & on.

This morning it was hard to leave the hospital. Clare seemed to be so close to passing away and I wanted to be there to see her through to the end, but I had to catch my flight (which left at 8:40am this morning). I left about 6:45 and had to clear the snow off the rental car (that was a waste of money, it would have been cheaper to take a taxi, but I didn't really expect that I would stay there at the hospital the whole time... I had really thought I would be staying with my brother at night & seeing my daughter & granddaughter, I had even brought a gift for my granddaughter, that I had picked up in Texas.

Anyway, I called the hospital when I got to Portland (I flew between Spokane & Portland on a prop-plane!). When I called the hospital & talked to the nurse, it sounded like they were going to move Clare into Hospice care. When I landed in Honolulu I had several messages on my phone, including one from Sue & a couple from Bob. Clare passed away at 5:40pm.

Okay... I'm going to sign off... it's almost bedtime & I'm tired (I did sleep on the plane from Portland to Hawaii).

Flying back out...

First... just one quick picture from the Pro Bowl today. NFC won. It was nice being there with almost 50,000 other people. I got sunburned though on my face.

And... yes, I am flying back out tonight. I was going to try & fly out tomorrow night, but when I talked to Sue, it sounds like Clare might not last that long. So... I'm flying out tonight. I will post again when I can, but I'll be staying with my sister-in-law and she doesn't have wireless. My focus will be on Clare and being supportive to Sue. I'll return to Hawaii on Wednesday.

Of course... that means I'll be missing a "certain" procedure that I was supposed to do tomorrow, I'll have to reschedule it when I return.

Okay... I've got to sign off.

Back in Hawaii...

Just wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know I am back in Hawaii. The flights were uneventful, although the last leg from LA was overbooked. When I landed I had a message to call my "pseudo" sister Sue, no matter what time a day. I say "pseudo" because her mom is the closest thing to a mom that I have. I've known her mom Clare (before I knew Sue), since I was 12. I used to call Clare my "telephone mom" because I met her over the phone when I was about 12. She was a role model and a mentor for me and is a major part of the reason that I am the person I am today - having survived all I did throughout my childhood & teenage years.

Anyway... Clare is in the hospital and basically on her deathbed. I'm going to talk to my supervisor and see if I can fly up for a couple days to be there for her & Sue as they go through this transitional phase of life. Clare is on oxygen and a morphine drip, her heart is only working at 20%. It's just a matter of time.

Okay... I've got to sign off, it's almost midnight & I want to be at the stadium for PorBowl tailgating at 7am.

It is finished... the course that is...

Tower of the Americas... Day & Night shot (both taken today/tonight).

I had an early dinner in the "Chart House Restaurant" up in the Tower of Americas. The Tower of Americas is supposed to be over 70 stories high. So... as I sat up there... (and when I went on up to the observation deck), I pondered the thought of my ability to jump from that high. I've mentioned before that when I go to Auckland, I have the opportunity to jump off the sky tower (its a controlled jump, it is NOT a bungee jump... but it is from 60 stories high). There's a part of me that says I can do it... I'd just hope that I wouldn't be the only one jumping at the time. I have surgery pending though, so that might mess up my chance to jump even if I decide I want to while I am down there in Auckland.

Look how high it is... I enjoyed sitting in the revolving restaurant getting a birds eye view of the whole area. I've eaten up at the top of the Seattle Space Needle in Seattle & the CN tower in Toronto. How many more towers are there to go? Hmmm....

My favorite Octagon building at night...

After dinner at the restaurant in the Tower, I went up to the observation for a very windy view of the sunset. I like the ocean sunsets better (smiles).
Other than that... we wrapped up our training about noon today, I had a last lunch with some of my peers, and then sat in the lobby with many of them as they waited to take off to the airport. I fly out tomorrow morning about 11:30am and get into Hawaii about 10pm. I hope to sleep on the way over the ocean (although I'm still reading my Christmas present book from my daughter... "The Happy Isles of Oceania... paddling the Pacific" by Paul Theroux. It's about a guy who paddles across the South Pacific to Hawaii (he starts his journey in New Zealand). I want to finish it before I get to new Zealand. I also need to watch "Lord of the Rings." *smile*
Okay... I'm going to sign off and go take a bubble bath here in my hotel room and head to bed. It's almost 11pm.

San Antonio...

This is the Tower Life Building in San Antonio, it is supposed to be the tallest Octagon building (not sure if it still is, and whether it's for the US or the World). It's a pretty neat looking building.

Training went okay today, we covered some stuff that I feel like I am fairly familiar with, so it was kind of a review for me. I've mentioned my one co-worker that came down with me, she's the one I've mentioned before, she's a tad odd. Well, some of my peers here in training have questioned me about her (her odd behavior is noticeable). I still am amazed that they had her come down because I don't think she will make it a year (which was a requirement of the training, that we would commit to a year... or at least until our contract ends in September - no worries... it will most likely be renewed... or we will be converted to another position).

Tonight I went over to the mall with some of my peers (the same ones from last night, along with one other). We went to an Italian restaurant for dinner, then a couple of us got a massage at a Kiosk, it felt good. It was a "Chinese" type that was "deeper" and targeted acupressure points. I've continued to have problems with my neck today, so the massage seems to help. I'll know more tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, it's our last day of training. Most everyone will be checking out tomorrow & flying back to their home towns. I'll be spending the night here. I am thinking about going downtown to the "Tower of America' and having dinner up there. I'd like to get there in time to watch the sunset, then have dinner afterwards. I'll see how it goes. I'll have to see if any of the ones spending Friday night want to go, there are only a couple of us though.

Okay... time to sign off and wrap up & get ready for tomorrow.

Dining with friends...

So... tonight I went to dinner with some of my training buddies... from left to right... Carolyn, me, Mary Ann and Theresa. I've spent the most time with these three. They're all nice (of course).

Today's training went well, we had a very interesting instructor, I think he was the best so far. It was on case investigation.

I'm not going to write much now, I've got clothes in the laundry, so need to go take care of it.

Bexar County Court Houe...

Isn't this a pretty building? It's near the Market Place that we visited last night.

Not much to write about today. The training was better today. After training I went to the Hotel Spa and got a massage... now I think I'll go curl up in bed & watch some TV and relax.

Going to the market... with new found friends...

Let's see if I can get all the names right... me, Joanne, Theresa, Pam, Mary, Marian, Peggy, and Mark... with Mary Ann taking the picture (she was in the picture I had someone take of the three of us on the Riverboat). Mary Ann organized the jaunt at lunchtime... we shared a couple taxis down to the Marketplace (kind of a Mexican market), after our session today.
This is actually outside of the marketplace...
One of the stores outside of the Marketplace, but still a part of it.

We decided to take the bus back (it's only a $1.10, compared to the $6 each we paid for our taxi ride down... by sharing a ride). Apparently on some (?) of the busses, they have a seat that is in memory of Rosa Parks. Several of our group took turns getting their picture next to the seat. This is Pam & I.
The training was fairly good today... we learned more about Spouse abuse and how to target treatment. The speaker was more engaging... but offended many with some of his comments which came off sounding a little racist. It will be interesting to see how he does on the critiques, (we won't see them... but still it would be interesting to find out!).
After spending almost 2 hours at the Marketplace, we came back and ate at a Seafood restaurant (not a fancy one), then we walked back to our hotel (just under a mile). We did a LOT of walking from the Marketplace down to where we needed to catch our bus back to the Mall near our hotel. We had good timing though, as a bus came by within about 5 minutes.
Okay... it's almost 10:30... time to think about heading to bed. For my friends & family that read this, know that I love each of you and appreciate the contribution and touch you have had in my life. I say this after a reminder from my older sister that life is often short and we never know when our last day will be, so we should take the opportunity to say "I love you" more often. This was the result of my younger brother Don being 3rd on the scene of a fatal accident not too far from where he lives (out by the lake) on a rural road. When my sister heard about the accident, she knew that my brother & his girlfriend should have been along that road sometime near the time of the fatal accident. It was somewhat traumatic for them... Don's girlfriend is a Medical Assistant and she said nothing in her training prepared her for what she saw in the accident (two men were thrown from the accident, one apparently had the vehicle roll over him? He's the one that died).
So... having said all that. Know that if you're reading this... and you're among those of my family & friend... I love you and I can't wait until I can see you again.

Back from Dallas...

I had a beautiful day driving up to Dallas yesterday (was it JUST yesterday?). I stopped along the way a couple times (I had lunch at the Cracker Barrel restaurant). I got up to Dallas a little after 4. I got to drive a YELLOW Aveo (? I think that's what it was called), it was a 4-door hatchback, I really enjoyed it, the only problem I found, was that when I was doing 70-75 (on the freeway... speed limit 70), if there was a cross-wind, the car would make a weird occasional sound that is difficult to describe. The car had less than a 1000 miles on it when I picked it up, so it was brand new.

I managed to find my friend Sonya's place, although there was some confusion. I was looking for an apartment building, but she lives in her music studio (in a recording studio). She has a set of drums in her studio, some guitars & a key board (along with recording equipment). I got to meet her younger brother & 14 yo nephew (nice kids!) and I got to listen to her jam on her guitar while her nephew played her drums. We went out for a bite to eat, then stopped & picked up some movies & just came back & watched a video before crashing for the night. Her recording studio is sound proofed, and doesn't have windows, so it was hard to know when it was morning... but she had set her phone alarm, so that worked. We got up & went out and grabbed some breakfast before I dropped her back off & headed back down here to San Antonio.

I dropped my stuff off at my hotel and then drove out to Lackland AFB. I was disappointed that I couldn't find a "Lackland AFB" tee shirt. I drove around and saw some of the base... it brought back memories of Basic Training (33 years ago! YIKES!). Then I had to get my rental car back and get back to the hotel. I don't know if I mentioned I brought my GPS, but I have to say... it doesn't work too well when there are multiple layers of roads. I got turned around a few times (Friday night trying to get back to the hotel and tonight trying to get back to the rental place). Oh well.

Then I got back and thought the Super Bowl started at 7pm here, but it started at 5:30, so I sat in the lobby and watched the last couple minutes of the first half, then came up to my room, dropped some stuff off, then headed across the street to TGI Fridays, so I could watch the game with a bunch of sports enthusiasts and not be in a smoke-filled bar (the bar here at the hotel allows smoking... yuk!). I was rooting for the Arizona Cardinals, but was figuring that the Pittsburg Steelers would win. It was a good game, especially that last half... and the last 5 minutes or so.

Now I've got to sign off and think about heading to bed. It's 10:30. I need to get a shower & hit the sack!
